After the first minute I didn't notice the sawing - maybe it stopped, but nothing would stop me from enjoying another of your videos! I have a few of those patterns and really need to make them - seeing how they really look on you and getting advice from someone who has made them is a huge help to get the confidence to go ahead. I think a facing on a lightweight summer dress or top seldom makes sense and they often show through lighter weight fabrics, too - not sure why they keep putting them on unless you need one for buttons or another good reason. Speaking of buttons, putting those on as an accent piece for that top was genius!!!

Excellent pattern review!!!!!!!! I have a lot of those Simplicity patterns that I have yet to make, and you've answered any and all questions I've had. It was almost as though you knew exactly what your views wanted and needed to hear. Thank you for explaining the difference between the NL6514 and S8957 waistbands! I jotted down a lot of your very, very helpful comments in my Excel pattern spreadsheet so that when I finally make these patterns, I can first resort to your (and other sewists' YT videos) before cutting into my fabric. Your review of the S8660 and comment re: side-seam pockets is very good to know. The "Jenn Dress" (as I call it) is on my list of First Makes after getting to FL and finally getting to the point of being able to sew again! Thank you for this excellent video, Carole!!! xx🥰 Hope your weather is finally warming up. 🌞

Hi Carole! Look at all the lovely clothes you've made!! And, to think, that's only SOME of what you've made for yourself!! I used to be strictly a Simplicity gal because I thought they were the easiest patterns to follow but you actually helped branch me out to try a Butterick pattern and I found that it was quite nice. Then I decided to try a McCalls pattern and found that it was not bad at all as well. I do tend to stick to a Big 4 type of pattern company but I have tried a few Indy patterns in the past year or so.

Yet again, I’m surprised that I have quite a few of these patterns - unsewn! And yet again, you’ve created lots of great garments that I could see me wearing a lot. This is what I need! Not lots of glamorous going out clothes, but smart, comfortable put together outfits. I also like how you tweak a pattern with pockets, ties etc. to make it your own. The waist ties are a great idea!👍 as I don’t like anything too boxy as I still have a bit of a waist! 🤣 Thanks for the inspiration Carole, as always. Have a great week.

Thank you, that is really kind of you and I am glad you enjoyed my 'fashion show'. A lot of people talk about the Big four and instructions but I think they are very comprehensive, they always have a big write up in the front of the pattern and there are so many learn to sew ones out there. You are right about the patterns being similar and very often the same, just for cheaper plus you don't have to print yourself 😂. As you know, I do sew both but the Big 4 are just so much easier for me. Have a great week 🧵😊

Uncooperative facings can be glued in place with iron on hemming web. A little bit here and there between the two layers. The facings on printed fabric can be sewn down by hand. Tiny stitches on the outside and slightly larger underneath. Place the stitches on the edges of the print motifs, where one colour changes to another. Then they are invisible.

8052 is a great summer top in rayon here in Queensland Australia in our hot sticky summer. I've made two in lovely prints and I receive compliments every time I wear them. The air circulates so lovely underneath it. I'll definitely make more of them in the future. I have a couple of those other patterns but haven't made them up yet but I look forward to doing so. You always have such great suggestions Carole, thank you.❤

Oh thanks Annette, I so enjoy using the Big 5 and I do have success with lots of them. Not sure about being an Ambassador but I will keep trying 😂. I just like giving them the good press as I do get fed up with hearing about the Indie patterns all the time being better and easier! You know me, I use both but if I can find a Big 5 alternative I would rather that then spending lots of money on the pattern and printing! Thanks for watching 🧵😊

Great pattern and fashion show! So many different fabrics and styles, very nice sewing and modeling. I have a few of the same patterns, some I have made and the others plan on for this season, especially some linen pants. I also want to make a few dresses as I only have 2 t-shirt style. Yes you have inspired me! I will be examining those pants patterns. The dress made famous by Jenn, S8640 in an aqua linen blend is at the top of my list. I hope the linen works, it is suggested. Sometimes my pairings just don’t work. You seem to work it out. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week! 20:41

Hi Kathleen. Re the 8640, I like it in a fabric that drapes so if you have a linen blend it should work. I made a similar dress in a quilting cotton and I didn't like it as it was too stiff and stuck out! One of my favourite things to make is Linen pants as you can tell, have fun making yours. Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊

@@socarole66 Thanks so much for the advice on the dress. Forgot to mention that all your linen pants are great, colors and fit. Just got a NewLook pattern. Cute detail on the pants on this one N6704. Going to make the blouse and maybe the pants. My son just came back from the UK and he brought me back a little over 3 meters of a Liberty of London fabric. Using that pattern for the blouse. Similar to one they have on their website.Very nervous about cutting into that fabric, but I’m sure it will be beautiful once I get up the nerve to do it!

It's so interesting to me Carole, that all your Big 4 patterns fit you so well and suit your body so beautifully. As I've mentioned before, I too am a smidge past 5'2", and turned to Indy patterns because I always have to make massive changes to the big 4 and I dislike having to make toiles all the time. Do you have to fiddle with the fit as well when making something for the first time?

I don't know if I just am lucky or I just put up with any fitting anomalies but I don't often have to do much to the patterns. Of course I take length off most things legs and sleeves, sometimes shorten the waist or do a narrow shoulder adjustment but very rarely. I don't often make practice garments either unless it is for a special occasion outfit. I can't bear to think of sewing something up and then never wearing it. I would rather kind of 'alter as I go' As I said, maybe I am just lucky! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time comment 🧵😊

Thanks for all the pattern information! Is 8957 an ankle pant, or did you choose to make them ankle length? I don’t think I have this pattern but will shop for it! I’ve made 9272 top and cardigan several times, but have not made the pants. I’ve made the top and pants of 9121, and I really like the crops. The top needs some adjusting, but haven’t gotten around to it. Have a lovely rest of your week, Carole!

@@socarole66 Thanks, Carole, I've ordered the 8957 pattern and have fabric in my stash! I made the 9121 as a muslin in a coral/yellow/pink/white small floral quilting cotton I had in my stash for many years. I originally used it as lining in a shoulder bag a hundred years ago :) I found the neckline was a little too wide, so just made a 1-inch inverted pleat at the center front. Turned out to be a great wearable muslin! Oh, and, you don't need to include the back neck opening, there's plenty of room to get it over your head!

Way too much fabric and it stuck out.I think the dress has to have drape to work so I made mine in Viscose Challis, also makes it floatier and cooler. Hope that helps. 🧵😊
