I have 2 female lionheads who are sisters...and the larger one is much more agressive. the smaller one is terrified of me. over time I have gotten the nippy one to calm down. lionheads are notorious biters. I use the smoosh method when she acts up. another rabbit youtuber had a video on it. you gently smoosh their head and back down with your palm as a show of dominance. I also used a stick to pet them and get them used to being touched. lots of great resources online. sometimes bunnies are just assholes. same with dogs and cats.

I had two bunnies as a kid and one of them was abnormally aggressive. She had huge mood swings and was sweet and cute one moment and aggressive the next. Sometimes she wanted to be cuddled, then she scratched and bit me. But she wasn't just aggressive towards me. Her main victim was the other bunny. We tried separating them to protect him but man, she was not easy to handle... she was like a cat in a bunny costume.

One exception I think exists to the bite rule (at least as far as I've experienced) is when grooming I want to note. One thing I've noticed with my rabbit is that he'll start licking my arms after a long petting session with him he'll nip by elbows because they have calluses. It's clearly not aggressive since when I try to pet him again he insists on giving me love instead, and will lick other areas. I think it's because he wants to help removing the callus, it never really hurts either so I don't consider it 'biting' and more like 'nipping' as a way to groom you. He's done this with other people as well that, whenever he encounters a callus, he'll try to nip it off. Maybe this isn't what you mean by biting, idk, I just felt it was good to mention. I have experienced an aggressive bunny so I do know the difference between a true bite and just my rabbit trying to bite off a callus.

I get flicked at every single time I trim her nails, she's been terrified of people touching her feet ever since I brought her home. I've always been super carful to not cut too far but even the first time I had to get someone else to hold her while I did because she freaked every time I touched her feet. She's gotten better but she still gets really mad and hides for a while afterward but it's nothing some banana won't fix.

I was also new to having a bunny a few years ago. We rescued a single bunny and tried to give it a nice home with us. But she would bite us every single time we came near. this behaviour continued. She really bit us hard to the point of bleeding. I was so sad that it felt like she didn't accept us. So I decided to do some research. and learned that bunnies are in fact group animals. So we decided to get her a companion. And I have to say.... Her behaviour changed instantly. she has never ever bit us again. (she does sometimes still nibble us, but just to warn us we should give her some space; but it's more of a gentle bite to let us know.) they where also a really good match since they got along from the first day. (just humping but never being aggresive)

My rabbit pretty exhibits all of these. He will approach me and boop me with his nose but thats about as affectionate as he’ll get unless food is involved. I assumed that a lot of it has to do with him being a rescue that was treated horribly both times (1st he was a meat rabbit and then people that bought him were neglectful and made him live outside) and i had to be forceful with him to get him to a vet for checkups two times. But he really doesn’t seem comfortable around me at all. Maybe i should look for a better home? I want to keep him but if im just a bad owner then i shouldn’t make him suffer for that.

I've seen most of these from my current bun. She was a rescue, and I think her original keepers didn't handle her properly. Most buns are not fond of being picked up (though some acclimate to it, some of them even do so quickly), but mine? Oh, if I stand up and walk in her general direction she will usually take off and give me the flick. She grunted at me once. Before I switched her over to freeroam, she was in her X-pen and I reached down and put my hand on her side, she spun to put her head under my hand, I moved my hand to her side... After she spun around 3 circles like this she grunted at me. The message was clear: cut the shit, asshole! I apologized with some head/nose/ear rubs and then let her cool off. She hasn't outright bitten me, but she's given me warning nips. Sometimes because she wants me to leave her alone, more often because she is demanding attention. I know she isn't afraid of me, she will lounge about in full view of me. If I sleep in, she will hop up on the bed looking for attention. Sometimes, when I go to bed she'll hop up looking for good night pets. Overall, I think she is wary of people moving around. As far as I can tell, she thinks humans are big, erratic weirdos, and I can't really fault her for that. Rather than take chances with humans lumbering about doing who knows what, she prefers to keep her distance when someone is walking around... I think this is also why she seems to love the sound of me typing, she knows it means I'm not likely to get up and get in her way.

the "flipping off" thing ( I call it the fuck you run) is something I see after nail trims, health checks, meds, etc. a variation that looks similar but I believe to be more related to play behavior I've seen in my rabbit (more when he was younger) was the addition of a head shake like a half-assed binky he would also run right back to me for pets or treats and that was a way to tell the difference

The last of my guinea pigs recently passed (super sweet old man, a little sassy) and it's so interesting to read how close his behavior was to a rabbit. He had playful popcorns where he'd pop sideways and toss his head and be extra loud for a treat - and then he had the "get the flip out of my space" popcorns after a pen cleaning or nail trim, where he'd rumble and donkey kick and rub his greasy bottom on everything.

Thank you for the educational rabbit habit videos! I want to share my story, since it is a particular one -- I live in Ukraine, and since it has been invaded by Russia in February 2022, I was forced out of my home along with my bunny. Previously we lived in an appartment, which I owned, so we gradually grew closer, and I learned to accept the fact that the bunny will gnaw at the furniture and wires and stuff :) It was my furniture and my stuff, so ultimately, I could get new things and find some other interesting treats for the bunny. But after moving around the country a bunch of times, I must say that it's not possible to care for my bunny anymore. She can't be let out without supervision and I have to constantly restrain her movement, since we live in places that I'm not the owner of, and have to be careful not to damage the furniture and anything else. The bunny learned to accept the fact that she has to be carried during an air raid siren, and she got used to travelling by train and car. Yet she no longer flops (she used to do that a lot), and more often than not she would relax somewhere out of view. I feel that I can't just give her up to someone else, since... well... how could anyone do it? But then again, it's horrible that the little ones have to suffer like this.

I got my 2 year old rabbit about a week and a half ago. She is a very sassy rescue who was dumped in the side of the road she is still learning how to trust but is getting a lot more confident of letting people pet her. Her favourite thing to do is jump up on the bed and run around like crazy. She is free roam and a Rex rabbit!

Really grateful for this content because it’s not that I don’t love my bunny, I think my inexperience as a pet and bunny owner reaaaaly shows and so there’s a lot I can do to bond better with my bunny. Albert has definitely thumped near me, and I would stupidly ask “what’s wrong?” but eventually my continued presence and attention by talking to him soothes him and he starts oinking and running around after a few seconds…he has bitten my finger once which really surprised me…I was so surprised I put my hand over his shoulder area and applied some light pressure to hold him down. I’m still not sure what to do if he bites me again, but I suppose it does tell me he isn’t happy with me in that moment and I’m making him unhappy. He is a rescue and me and my boyfriend are fairly certain he’s experienced significant trauma, his previous owners left him in an upturned cage by the side of a road..but idk I think mostly I’ll have to learn how to read him better and learn his language

I have two buns that were returned to the shelter 4 times, and my boy showed all of these traits until literally a few weeks ago. While it took my girl 6 months to trust/like me, it took 2 years for my boy. 😂 I was telling a friend “maybe he was skeptical and thought I was going to return him like the other homes” now he is more affectionate than my girl and she was my defacto cuddle bun.🥰

Me and my bun Misty have had a long journey together with all of our vet visits. She's essentially a special needs bun. She had hereditary parasite in her ears that she was born with. But did not cause her trouble until a few months ago. Once we got it all cleaned up in her ear she had an abscess on the side of her jaw. We do not know exactly how we have just started but we think it was because of the parasite in my ear. She had to go into surgery to get it removed and we had to flush out the abscess for about a month. After we took her in for a checkup. And they said she had a dislocated jaw and was no longer able eat hay. I thought this was the breaking point and we would have to put her down. However the vet said we could give her critical care food three times a day which would be equivalent to about how much hay should we eat a day. So for the past 6 months we have been giving her three servings of porridge a day. And since you can't eat hay can smile down her teeth, she has to get her teeth filed regularly. All this was so heartbreaking to watch her go through but I know all of her suffering and all of the time we spent on her is worth it when she does binkies around the room and demands massages all the time. ❤️🐇

I'm a new(ish) bunny owner, and my bun will seek me out constantly when I'm home...if I move to a different room, she will wake up, come over to me, and go back to sleep. And the only time she bit me was when she came home after a rough vet visit and I was trying to give her pain medicine - she was in pain and was pissed I was getting in her space. This is so helpful, thank you so much! And thank you for making such helpful content to make me the a better bunny guardian 💖💖💖

My bunny nips when it wants attention if I'm doing something and not paying attention to her, she sniffs then just barely grazes me with her teeth. Our neighbors just let her go and I put her back in their fence and of course she got out again so we rescued her when they said they didn't want her. It was right before Easter too, so made an pretty good Easter for my 5yo! I think they got rid of her because they got a new bunny for Easter, it's their third one! She's a Florida white rabbit and I always thought bunnies just stay in their cages, she has my whole big back screened in porch to roam and dig. She definitely has a better life here then she did!

My bunny has done a lot of these. 😂 Biting when I pick him up to trim his nails, kicking his feet at me if he doesn’t get a treat when he wants one, thumping when he sees his carrier because he knows what it means... I don’t think he hates me, though. He gives me kisses and plays with me every day, and he will sleep out in the open near me, so I know he trusts me. He’s just a very demanding little man who expects everything to be exactly how he wants it at all times, and that can’t always happen. Lol.

I would like to say some rabbits like to be pet more than others! Certain breeds are also more prone to having fear reactions and are a bit more timid to petting. Lop breeds seem to be docile and love the petting where lionheads/netherland dwarfs seem to be a bit more timid about petting and handling. I can't thank Lorelei enough about teaching me about free roaming! it has strengthened my relationship soo much with my rabbit.

When my first bun, Beatrix, had her hormone surge at around 3-4 mos. many of these behaviors kicked in and I knew it was spay time. But I had to wait two months because the exotic vet would not spay until she was six mos. old. It was a hard time for both of us but once the hormones settled down and she became the 'warren queen' she was a bit of a thumper, mostly. I think she was warning me - like a guard bunny. I miss her so much.

I think I've seen all with my bunnies at one time or another. Summer 2021 I got my 2nd bunny, a 4yo tiny lady with the biggest attitude. I got her from a rescue station where she was dropped off by a family. I was only told they intended to just buy ANOTHER one. I quickly found the reason why when I got her, she was very territorial and very aggressive during feeding times, I had to be extra fast with my hands when handing her food because she would lounge, grunt, bite and scratch all at the same time. Tiny ball of anger and probably anxiousness. She was ok mostly otherwise. I believe she lived in a small cage because her behaviour got a bit better when she became a mostly free-roaming bun with a big enough play pen. Her behaviour kept changing as she wasn't neutered and was constantly falsely pregnant. When we finally went to the vet to get her operation done, I was asked how come her belly is totally hairless... she just kept building nests all the time... After neutering her and having her adjust to the calm lifestyle with two adults in a big enough space she's now much calmer, hasn't bit me in a long while, lounges only at our other bun when he decides to piss her off. I can't blame him, she's adorbs when she's mad... Even I have to piss her off on purpose sometimes just to hear the little grunt. XD She's still not a cuddly bun at all, she maybe lets me pet her once a month but she doesn't mind jumping on the couch and crawl all over us to get a piece of apple. She likes her space, her rutine and thumps at me every morning when I come down to give her breakfast, to just fast open the play pen. XD

One of my bunnies used to run and hide from me and get into attack position when I got close. I wasn't expecting it at all because my first bunny has always been super affectionate. I always backed off when she looked like she got ready to fight me, so she never actually bit me. 4 weeks later of sitting near her without reaching out every morning and evening and placing snacks near me, she runs up to me, climbs on me and flops next to me now. It was probably also very helpful that my other bunny is so affectionate because they always follow eachother around and the first time she came up to me was because she was following my other bunny who came over for a cuddle.

Hey Lorelei, I love your videos! I thought of a video! Could you do one about “what to do on the first night of bringing your bunny home” if you haven’t already? Love you as always 💞💞

I like to say my bunny is "very opinionated" he knows what he likes and what he doesn't and he's not afraid to make that known lol

My rabbit has done all of these, I’m new to being a bunny mom and I try and give my bunny the best love but I’m still learning!

Whenever I'm around, I see the cutest flops and binkies from Cookie, my bunny, but when my mom is around, he stays still as a statue I pet Cookie many many times a day, head rubs are his favorite. He even closes his eyes and really enjoys it. When I stop and put my hand in front of him, he literally pushes his head under me hand asking for more pets

My bun's biggest issue is his jealousy. He's the most loving and wonderful boy, until my husband comes around and gives me a kiss. Then Marshal(bunny) is nipping at him and climbing into my lap to get my attention. It's weird cause the cats can get love without too much jealousy issues, it's just my husband, and he's trying so hard to bond with Marshal. Husband is allowed to be near, it's only when he tries to be affectionate with me that there is any issues.
