I am a retired meat inspector trained by the USDA. I believe frozen seafood is much safer than fresh. The wholesomeness of the frozen food product is much more reliable. Before becoming a meat inspector, I had a crab meat salad at a restaurant. I suffered severe food poisoning .

I used to be a commercial fisherman who now works at Red Lobster as a line cook. In all honesty "Fresh Seafood" can be dangerous. We used a method called flash freezing (very rapid freezing) which not only preserves freshness, but, also kills a lot of nasty parasites that multiply rapidly in frozen fish. Some can be lethal. Another thing I've noticed is most restaurants that serve "fresh seafood" aren't always honest about species, and, origin. I can honestly say our kitchen never smells. We know exactly what we're serving, that's important to me. Especially seeing some of the source companies I'm familiar with from working in Alaska (Bering Sea). Better to be safe than sorry.

Besides, many items such as crab legs are not available fresh anywhere. They're caught and processed at sea, frozen, then shipped. And most of what most grocery stores display in seafood has been previously frozen and sold defrosted. About the only seafood available fresh everywhere is fish filets, such as salmon and tilapia.

@@stevekrein6824 💯✅ Exactly. I used to longline for the Ahi/Tuna market in Hawaii. If it's"Fresh" meaning it's never been frozen (but chilled on ice) you only have two days for Sashimi, three for Poke(both eaten raw), and, five days to cook it in a restaurant. I wouldn't touch it passed the third day un frozen. I know the stages of decomposition (sorry to put it that way) seafood is the worst, and, can be deadly. Freezing kills bacteria like Salmonella, and, gives preservation time from capture to healthy consumption. I've seen swordfish in seafood dept's all over America 16$ per pound that I wouldn't touch🤮,among other species. Imagine Crab legs caught all the way in Alaska not being frozen for shipping. If you see grey eyes on a whole fish No, yellowish tinge No, and, both of the above with a slight browning Hell No 🌴🤙

RED LOBSTER IS FAR FROM BING CHEAP OR REASONABLE! 2/27/23, My Daughter and I went to Red Lobster located in Mesquite, Texas. I ordered the Sailor's Plater Lunch Special $16.00, the small salad or small bowl of slaw no longer is part of it, the full size fried shrimp that used to be on it is now fried shrimp smaller than popcorn (mine was over fried) the fried Trout was good, the Shrimp Scampi so so (one shrimp was only part of a shrimp missing tail and part of body?) The baked Potato I ordered loaded came with sour cream only. My daughter flagged down another Server to get water and butter. Their famous rolls were room temp and dry. NO LONGER FAMOUS. My daughter's meal was okay, but not wort $14.99 for Broccoli and fried shrimp. I see them going out of business in the near future.

Many stores sell the cheddar bay biscuit mix. I am fine with frozen shrimp and other seafood, and REALLY if it all had not been frozen, it will go bad sooner. Then there is the whole parasite killing by freezing as has been mentioned here already. When you read the title of this video, you kinda wonder what it will be all about. Kind of like what you will find out COULD possibly be negative. Now, I have never known that "Clawd" was a mascot, or that the Lobster on the signs or menus even had a name. Now, as far as the Langastino Lobster on the menu NOT being like those in the tank, that is easy to see since the lobster (langastino) is so damn small vs the big ones that are in the tank. Lobster is good tasting, BUT the Langastino lobster is so small and so expensive. So, unless you have money to burn, I don't think it is worth it at all. My opinion. If you really want Lobster, and you are going to be willing to pay a bit more, get the big ones from the tank. I love the Coconut shrimp and shrimp scampi too. I've never eaten any fish there before. I would like to try shark, BUT, sharks are high in metals like mercury and lots of other nasty chems. Basically, the bigger the fish in the ocean, the longer it has been absorbing those nasty metals into it's tissues, and fatty fish rich in oils like Omega fatty oils Salmon is one of them, they also tend to have high amounts of heavy metals in their tissues. Swordfish is another 1 high in metals. Smaller fish have less of these metals in their meat. Sorry to get all morbid on everybody, BUT, wouldn't you rather know than not?

Culinary Manager here. Rock lobster tails are currently around $32-$33 per pound, and that's for the smaller ones we currently serve. The Rockzilla was a 14-16 oz. tail. IF they were even available, the wholesale price would be in the $40-$45 per pound range. Larger sizes are harder to come by because current demand has them being harvested before many can achieve that size. There just aren't that many to be able to carry them in 700 restaurants nationwide, and even if they could, it would retail in the $80-$90 range. Get 2 8 oz. tails at Costco for $50 and have yourself a good dinner!

Growing up in the 80s, Red Lobster was a white table cloth restaurant. Considered a "special occasion" place and it was expensive. You dressed up and your parents told you to remember your manners while you drove there. Now it's just another fast-casual chain with overpriced unimaginative low quality tasteless food slapped on a plate. Haven't been able to justify going there since about 2000. If it weren't for the biscuits, im pretty sure they'd go under. Same with Olive Garden. They really shat the bed with their "rebranding" effort. The food is frozen and microwaved and it 100% tastes like it. You can almost taste the plastic wrapping. Zero reason to go there after the abysmal menu changes many years ago. It's about as Italian as my cocker spaniel.

NEVER order blackened fish at Red Lobster! I made that mistake once and got a thawed piece of fish floating in water with blackened powder sprinkled on it! When I complained to the server she asked if I wanted more powder on it. I just told her "No" and walked out.

The secret you need to know about Red lobster is that I work there in the kitchen at night to make milk money while nesting in a career at charter because I have a lot of expensivenes and a ton of college Dept. The hard part about working in the kitchen that Red lobster is not the work itself but sorting the numerous plate, bowl, plate/bowl, three varieties of ice cream scoopers, two varieties of ladles, two varieties of fork, three varieties of knife, 8 varieties of food containers, two varieties of deep fry strainers,3 varieties of cups, 3 sixes of tongs, and let's not forget the square bowl plate or regular bowl.

Not buying into the "Fresh Fish is more Dangerous" than Frozen idea. ANY protein improperly prepared can turn your stomach. I worked for Alaska's largest Seafood Processor out of SE Alaska for 15 yrs as a millwright. At some time in the 80's we even provided some of Red Lobsters Salmon & Shellfish. Most of my time off, away from the house, was spent Sportfishing. On the way to the fishing grounds, usually after Chinook or Coho Salmon or Halibut, I'd toss a Crab or Shrimp pot that we'd pick up on the way back to town. There was always something in the trap even if we got "skunked" fishing. I'll take Fresh Fish over Frozen just based on Flavor alone, Any day of the week. I can hardly eat Frozen or Deli Counter "fresh" fish or shellfish after all that Fresh Fish I'd brought home & eaten that day. There's just no comparison to frozen or fish that's been on ice for several days. I ate at Red Lobster here in Vancouver for the first time ever a couple months ago and it was barely edible to just Nasty. The Shrimp was Tainted and had begun to "turn". I'll never eat there again.

@@BabbleTop Yea, I can honestly say I really miss the World Class fishing there was to be had up there. I usually smoked & vacuum packed Salmon I would have to preserve. Good smoked Salmon is a Real Treat that is another item thats not done well on a commercial level. Nowadays I have my Butcher call me when they receive Farmed Steelhead the day it was processed & brought to market. There are several Hatcheries nearby that raise Salmon & Steelhead. The Steelhead are much less tollerant to the antibiotics & hormones they feed Salmon so they get a far more "natural" diet when Farm raised and they Smoke up just fine. 😋
