    Yes sir I used your set gains video! Rookie knowledge. 2016 Accord EXL premium HU only has preamp 1.8v at 75% volume and 3.33v at 100%. My Kicker 200.4 would not reach clip indicator with a 1000hz -5db test tone. I then used 0db tone and I was able to illuminate clip indicator about half turn on gain. -5db would speaker output 8.76v at max volume never reaching 14.14. Always felt I was leaving watts on the table. 0db test tone speaker output to 17v or higher, I didn’t turn the knob past that. Settled it in at 14.ish . It way clearer, louder and soooo much brighter. Some songs are recorded hotter than others where volume know is a no go past 25, and older songs there weren’t recorded hot can go to 35. And I still don’t know much about all this. Learning is hard.

    Just to mention to Nick about life and circumstances. We all have our ups and downs and things dont always go as expected. Everyone can agree on that. Dont put your channel performance lately all on yourself. People check your channel and alot of other channels like Justin's channel and others and at some point become saturated. They have learned and moved on. Checking back once in awhile to see something new maybe. There will be another tidal change with new DIY audio guys in waves and then the ebb tide again. Look at the online and retail vendors lately and you might see the same circumstances.

    Nick really nailed it when he talked about all the inefficient subs in car audio. I had a atomic 1299 back in the day 99dB 1 watt at 1 meter hit a 136 with 50 watts of blade technologies power on the headrest in a USAC show! Where's the efficient subs for car audio guys now? Not trying to buy a HO alt. Car audio has went stupid over the years. Sure power is cheap, but what it really takes to use that power isn't.

    One thing about setting the gain for me is that I set it up to where I want my head unit to be at max volume. Example my head unit has a maximum of 75 but I don’t like to push buttons that much so I turn mine up to 35 then set the gain.

    Hello diy audio guy. Ive got a kind of a long winded question about setting gains and bass boost on my amp. If I want to be able to max out bass boost(without clipping)on amp then lower it to my preference would this work? Once I've found head unit clipping point(vol 61clips) Set headunit to 60 right before clipping Then hook up oscilloscope to amp + & - Set amp crossover to 200hz(prefer it that way) Set amp gain to lowest setting Set bass boost to max Now raise gain until right before clipping(watching oscilloscope) Turn every thing off and re connect speakers Listen to see if I like bass boost maxed out(most likely will lower it to what I like) Then turn everything off and disconnect speakers and hook up oscilloscope again Because I would have lowered bass boost I should be able to raise gain just a tiny bit while watching oscilloscope Shut off and reconnect speakers. In theory this should now have bass boost Set to my preference without clipping right? Figure doing it this way i wont clip my speakers and can listen to bass boost setting to prefered preference instead of guessing what id like it at. Would this work?

    Talking about subwoofer efficiency and clarity...what happened to cerwin vega?

  • @DIYAudioGuy

    @DIYAudioGuy

    5 ай бұрын

    The various divisions of the company have been sold off, and then resold a few times over the years. As of 2024 the parent company of one of the divisions acquired the other divisions so all of cerwin Vega is owned by the same company now. They were at CES 2024 and they're trying to make a comeback. Everybody's rooting for them.

    Also Justin I wasn’t a big believer of lithium either till I got it. On stock alt and lead acid I used to drop to 11.2 to 10.9 on a bad day and now with my 96 ah headway bank I don’t see below 13.6.

    A question, what do you think of using a limiter and or Exciter hardware for home audio? I use Qobush but have a lot of difference in volume and tone, for example, compare Tambu Toto and Legend Bonfire albums with Fly by Night and other Rush and Van Halen 1, so much difference in recording quality? A limiter and or Exciter could compensate? Please your ideas?

  • @wally7856

    @wally7856

    4 ай бұрын

    You don't need either for home audio. An exciter is a tool for musicians and mix engineers as an effect to get the sound of a particular track to sound like they want it to and used similar to reverb or delay as tools. A limiter is also not needed as prerecorded music has already been mastered to eliminate huge peaks that would fry your system. Limiters are tools used in live audio to prevent peaks from say an overly hard drum hit in the microphone or someone dropping their microphone on stage - totally not needed for prerecorded already mastered music. What may benefit you is what is called an "automatic gain control". This device will equalize the levels of different tracks to make them play at the same volume level.

    Here's a beginner's question: Are dual voice coils for the purpose of sending both stereo channels to one driver? After doing some reading I see that customizing impedance levels would be the most common function of DVC's. Is it possible to use one coil for the left channel and the other coil for the right channel?

  • @BaddDukk

    @BaddDukk

    Yes you can absolutely send the left channel to one coil and the right channel to the other coil. You are also correct in that the most popular use of dual voice coil drivers is to allow more impedance options.

    You know, why then everytime ive texted JL AUDIO the port area to cubic foot ratio theyve given me has always been 9 square inches per cubic foot.Why is is so much less? Or does that area just work best with their subs?

    I understand providing value to the people watching the live feed by responding to questions but I feel that this got off track with so many personal responses. Other than that, the content was quite good. Most of these rule of thumbs are from the bad ol' days when we were tuning boxes using formulas and nomograms. Learning and using a decent software program like WinISD dispels or confirms so many of them.

    As far as Android head units, I've been extremely happy with my Maxpeedingrods DSP head unit. No noise issues and sounds better than the Alpine head unit it replaced. Had it over a year with no issues.
