    Flew far away, lost radio signal, had almost no idea where it was, wasn't familiar with the map app, got panicky. As a last resort, I turned the controller off, then back on. It worked! Got signal back, and she was automatically on the way home. Apparently, that's what you're supposed to do. I was guessing.

    I bought a mini2 used for $150, biggest mistake I have made. It flys fine WHEN IT LETS ME TAKEOFF, but it's always complaining about geo fence bs. And it's camera is not very good. Overall I now hate DJI.

    I would like to add another drone mistake. Not watching where you're walking while flying the drone. I was walking down a slight hill. I slipped and fell on my back. I'm 68 years old. I shouldn't be doing that. I dropped my glasses, my hat, and the drone controller in the mud. The drone landed right beside me and shut off. Nothing was broken and I am O.K. except for a lot of mud.

    Hi Carson! Great tips there! A few more I might suggest for beginning drone pilots is to always calibrate the compass before flying at a new location (standing away from metal objects). Also, to calibrate the "IMU" or "Inertial Measurement Unit" about once a month (compass tells the drone what direction it's flying--IMU relates to acceleration and tilt angle for stable flight with 6-axis gyro). The IMU "green=good" indicator in the app is like a "check engine light"--it won't turn "red" until state of emergency! By then, a person might crash their drone. For drones that rely on WIFI frequency more than radio, you can buy a special high-speed cable (if using an Ipad Mini or Iphone--you can just use the Apple highspeed charging cable). This improves transmission of the video feed for lower latency and reduces risk of disconnecting mid-flight from the app (always turn smart phones on "Airplane Mode" before flying so incoming calls don't cause drone to disconnect from flight app! Since your smart device is plugged in to RC--leaving it on cellular or Wifi is unnecessary and causes frequency interference). Yes, you don't need cellular data to use the DJI Fly App--but you have to have internet connection to initially log into the DJI Go App before leaving the house. Position the controller antennas flat side towards the drone at 45 degree up angle for best broadcast (many "newbies" point antenna tips straight at drone, down at ground, or criss-crossed . . . all of which are incorrect!). Yes, the drone will execute a "lost link procedure" if it loses connection with the remote controller (it still has connection with satellites though to fly in auto-pilot). I leave it on "Return to Home" for normal use. However, if a person flies under structures or takes off from a boat--set the "lost link" procedure to "hover" in place--so the drone can re-connect with RC and land safely (Otherwise, your drone will try to ascend up to RTH altitude and fly straight up into tree branches, bridge, or overhead obstructions! And, if the boat has moved--it will land in water because that's the "home point" it last remembers. If your flying altitude is higher than RTH altitude--the drone will not descend until landing (So, if you are flying above a skyscraper and the drone loses connection--it won't fly down to RTH height and hit any objects below it). Remember that RTH is still blind to obstacles! Ken Heron was orbiting around a skyscraper and the concrete building blocked his signal--the drone "came home" in straight line and smashed right into the building (altitude was not set high enough to clear it). Also, many people do not realize drones will execute an emergency "auto-landing" at 10% battery. So, make sure to land with 20-30% battery left just to be safe. Hope this helps--you covered a lot of excellent points as well. Use a micro SD card with a U3 rating for sure. I turn my drone on first so it has a minute to connect to satellites in GPS mode before I take off. Otherwise, you will be flying in full manual or "Attitude Mode" with no GPS to help you. Please feel free to use some of these suggestions if you make a "Part 2" video sequel

  • @gisstudents1098

    @gisstudents1098

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@SagefulSolutions Also, I always turn the drone "off" before I turn the remote controller off! If you turn the RC off while the drone's rotors are "armed" or "idling"--the drone might think it has lost connection and take off by itself to "return to home!" It should simply fly up to RTH altitude and then land again at home point. But, it sure is scary when your drone takes off like that.

But with today's systems...Always control first on and last off. (You wouldn't slap a horse on the A__ before setting the bit and reins, would you??)

    Good video but #3 VLOS It's about seeing the area around the drone, not what the camera sees. Your camera won't see a helicopter rapidly coming in from behind or to the side of your drone. VLOS is about being aware of your surroundings.

    Do all or most drones save the videos on an SD card? I look at many drone adverts typically on AliExpress but most do not mention where the videos are saved and do not mention SD cards.

    Hi, I'm new to the drone and just recently, I have bought a drone called MJX Bugs 16 Pro B16 GPS 4K EIS 3- I have managed to use the basic controller. However, still, I couldn't connect to the mobile apps as once I uploaded the MRC Pro app on the top of the left hand of the mobile, it said Not Connected; I tried many times but still didn't; know how to connect it, while KZread video shows the green sport (High Speed)label and another question I'm planning to use this MJX Bugs 16 Pro B16 in remote places in Himalayan Country in Nepal, may I know how to connect to the Wifi in the mobile apps where there may not be the internet access. Please advice. Thank you.

    Good video. I be been flying a Mavic clone for a while now. I have probably 10 or 12 FPV quads now, and never paid more than $100 for any of these. I've only broken two props, ever. One of mine got snagged in the carpet when picking it up. Yeah, it was a micro, stunt guad. Another, a wall. LOL I've had one fly away. It was one of those El cheapo $20 Dollar Store quads. A camera, but no FPV. This was an informative video. Good job.

    At 4:21 both white lines up and down is the pitch angle (nose up or down with wings level). Individually, each side up and down (opposite) is the bank angle (roll rate). All the best.

    Hi Carson I own a mavic air 2 had it for a few months and made one of your mistakes when in a large park area doing a follow me mode and when finished and instructed the drone to return to home and it started flying back to where it took off from ( as that’s what it supposed to do ) Question is there a setting were drone can follow the controller and the home point is changed to be maybe call it, “controller home point”. Love the videos you put out thanks Steve L

    I’m not sure if the MA2 uses the DJI Fly app, but it is possible to update your home point whilst flying. Just go into Settings -> Safety -> Update home point. You can then choose either your current position, or pick a point on the map. If it’s a different app for the MA2, I’m sure there will be an equivalent option. Google will help in this case. Hope this helps.

    @@wumfi hi Pete yes you are right you can update the home point DJI fly app. Just thinking it might be a good feature to have that the home point is where the controller is. ( or near to the controller ) Imagine riding down a hill and the drone is in follow mode, then for some reason the drone looses connection and returns to last home point which could be a couple of hundred metres. What I’m thinking is that the controller can / could be switched to being home point. If it’s not there now, maybe an update from DJI. What’s your thoughts on that as an update. ?

    @@stevelawrence8708 Hi. Yes, very good idea. Although implementing such a feature is akin to a follow me mode. So one could initiate the RTH, and then walk whilst the drone was returning. It’s unlikely DJI would add that, as it wants you to buy the Air 2/2S instead!

    coming from flying helicopters and how touchy they are i use the tips of my thumbs and BARELY touch them. Gentleness goes a long way for a smooth flight. just started using drones I feel spoiled how smooth they are. #1 rookie mistake with my mavic air 2 is forgetting to take off the gimbal protector before starting the drone. grrr
