    Very cool information. I've been following your channel for a while and it has helped me a lot, including getting my Harbor Freight pressure pot converted and working. I really like that you show your mistakes, this is soooooo important for people just starting to realize that everyone out there who makes it look easy has a history of missteps in their past. Also your BONUS TIP was right on the money for me!! Thanks Jake!

    Gr8 video, Jake! Tip #7 is probably the most important tip. In my shop I do not have a way to stabilize, however; from my experience I have found that a good coat of clear shellac will seal the air & moisture in. It is also my finding that Alumilite Water Clear resin has no problem adhering to the shellac! Tks for the video!

    Thank you sooo much for this ! I’m hoping to start resin by summer. This was very helpful! I have delayed this because I want to be more competent in my turning before I get to that. One question i have for you is on a given piece how do you calculate the proposed volume to pour? Since resin is expensive I would not want to over mix, but not mixing enough would be just as bad. Thanks!

  • @JakeThompson

    @JakeThompson

    3 жыл бұрын

    I use rice to determine how much resin I need to mix.. I fill the voids up with rice and then measure the volume of rice... I always mix a little extra to not fall short.

    @@JakeThompson BTW ... some plastics companies have warehouses that do retail sales. For instance, at Midland Plastics in De Pere, Wisconsin, I bought a 24" x 42" sheet of 1/2" HDPE for $15.00. They don't advertise because it is such a small part of their business, but it is an outlet for scraps they accumulate from bigger jobs.

    I'm thinking of just skipping on and getting the California tools pot. Seems if you go cheap it doesnt work right, frustrations set in and you wind up buying what you initially wanted and spend more money in the long run. You did a video recently on the pressure pot comparing casting with and without a pot and you used a really glow in the dark type of dye. Where did you get that

    Hello Jake, I was curious if you take commissions for custom pieces. I'm located in Florida and would like to have a memorial piece for my late husband. As much as I'd like to do it myself, I don't have the space, or materials to build the mould, or the knowledge to do it properly. If you are to far away, from central Florida, maybe you could recommend someone? I'd like to to have a deep pour to encase one of his fishing rods and reel. I look forward to hearing from you and love your videos!
