    Dennis Vivanco I wanted to go to a CSU because there cheaper than a UC, and Long Beach has a really good social work program but it’s impacted so a lot of people are trying to get in with that major. Also Long Beach has CAMP program that helps migrant students out by helping them with tutoring and F Financial aid.

    I have one question. How exactly does the tuition fees work? Is it $275 dollars per unit? So if you're taking 12 units, then it's $3300? Or is there like a flat rate no matter how many units you take?

  • @_heyitsmay

    @_heyitsmay

    6 жыл бұрын

    It's based on if you're a full time (7 or more units) or part time student (6 or less units). Here's where you can see the costs laid out: www.csulb.edu/student-records/tuition-and-fees

    So from what I read, around $3,200 per semester for full time? That's not bad at all.

Then just a few weeks ago I had a virtual interview and trial lesson (applying as a music ed major on flute) that was AMAZING!!! I immediately felt a strong urge to go to the school and after watching your tour video and more I am just so super excited about it!! Seems like a great school. Based on how the classes work, do you have time to go to classes and juggle around a part-time or full-time job? Do they assign your classes like in high school, or do you choose what classes you want to take and when, like junior college currently is. If I get the luck to go there next year I will need to have at least a part time job; plus I’m not sure how the dorm expenses go and the daily meals, tuition, etc. I’m the first in my family to go to college, and the only ones in my neighborhood who have gone to college are no longer around, so I have to use social media for guidance. I’ve not seen one video yet of someone working while going to a CSU of any sort. Any tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • @_heyitsmay

    @_heyitsmay

    You choose the classes you take (I mean, there are going to be some that you have to take by a certain time depending on your major, but your advisor will tell you that). Working while going to school is very doable! I would say most people at CSULB have at least a part time job, actually. I had one this semester that was 10-15 hours a week, and I was able to handle it. For tips, I would say just to allocate certain blocks of time to do homework and try not to do too much at once. At my job (which was at a calling center), I was actually lucky enough to be able to work on my homework during the shifts. I haven't made a video on working in college specifically, but I talk about it some in my vlogs if you want to check those out. There are all sorts of on campus jobs you can look into: www.csulb.edu/employment Also, here is the link to the housing payment breakdown: web.csulb.edu/divisions/students/housing/campus_housing/fees.htm I hope this helps, and you can totally hit me up with anymore questions you have! Hi there! Honestly, with classes being online right now, I would recommend going to community college and staying at home. It's not worth it to pay the price of a 4 year university if you're not actually able to go there. That's just my opinion though. It's possible that you would just have the first semester online and then be able to go on campus after that. Sometimes it's good to take a leap even if you feel like you're not quite ready and see how things shake out--I don't think anyone ever feels completely ready to move out of their parents' house to a new city and start college, if that makes you feel better. I know I didn't! But if you really don't think moving away right now would be a good fit for you, you could always go to community college for two years and then transfer somewhere else or just stay close to home for all four years. Everyone does college differently! I would consider classes being online and your financial situation as well when you make your decision. Feel free to ask me any questions you have about CSULB if you want more information!

  • @_heyitsmay

    @_heyitsmay

    4 жыл бұрын

    Unless things have changed since I applied, yes. They just look at GPA and SAT scores as the main factors and it goes into some kind of algorithm. The same goes for all the CSUs--it's one application, and there is no essay required. For your second question, it definitely depends on the class! I got really close with some of my professors and not so much with others. Going to office hours is a great way to help build relationships with them.

    Hi! Take this with a grain of salt because I graduated a few years ago now, but I remember hearing that parking was pretty difficult. I never had a car so I didn't experience it firsthand, but people said you had to get there early to get a spot. You could definitely bike to campus though! There are places to lock up your bike, and you can't bike through the main walking paths, but you can bike around the sides of campus. There is also a Long Beach bus system and a campus shuttle that goes all the way around campus and a few off-campus places as well.

If they open things back up a bit and have more dorm activities, I would definitely recommend doing those as much as possible and introducing yourself to everyone in your hall when you move in. That really helps! If you're living off campus, it can be harder, but you can still join clubs and meet people in your classes. I don't know how much they're going to transition back to in person in the fall, but with the vaccine that should be coming soon! If not, you can always do virtual clubs as well. I hope this helps!

    Hi! I'm from Northern California too :) I was definitely nervous starting college as well, and my best tips would be to remind yourself that everyone else is in the same boat because it's a completely new experience for them too, to get in contact with your roommate before school starts, to introduce yourself to your hallmates when you move in, to join a club (in order to meet new people and have something to do to keep you busy and avoid homesickness), and bring things for your dorm that remind you of home, like pictures to put up or something so your room feels more comfortable. I'm 20! There is definitely a range of ages at CSULB--24 isn't too old at all!

    I've definitely had a good experience, but it really depends on a lot of factors. If you plan to live in the dorms (which I HIGHLY recommend, but I know it's not financially feasible for everyone), it's going to be easy to meet people in your hall or suite and at housing events. If you're not going to dorm, it can be harder, so I would recommend joining a club of something you're interested in and trying to meet people that way!

    What if I have a great gpa but my sat scores aren’t that great? has anyone ever told you their sat score that’s considered being “low” that still got in ?

    Hmm, I'm not sure. I would guess that GPA is more important but I haven't heard anyone say that specifically. Definitely still apply though--it's always worth a shot!

    hii, i'm not sure if you go to CSULB anymore, but I have some questions to ask. I would love to go into nursing here at CSULB, but my gpa is 3.71 and I have low test scores (also due to covid, i'm not sure if it's test optional or test blind). Would I have a good chance at getting in? Another thing is that do they require application essay or personal essay? I've been looking for the prompts and I can't find anything. Thank you!
