    Fully agree to everything you said! And would add another half point: When you live far from water or it’s too cold, then try a street-surf-board with a wing on a parking space. That is a simple and great combination too, which is very easy to learn, needs unter 10kg of equipment and generates loads of fun.

    As a life-long Windsurfer, I have transitioned to Wind foiling with traditional windsurfing sails. It extends my range from 15-30 up to 7-35. I get 15-20 more days on the water with my foil than I would just sailing as normal.

    Great to see you’re so stoked about wingfoiling. Foiling is the future in our eyes and wingfoiling will and does bring people together from all water sports disciplines and even those people who never tried any water sports before. What we liked about your previous video was: you recommendation to get in touch with a wingfoil school; someone who has a lot more experience than one has in the beginning. You even told that was the way you did it and could correct a lot of beginner mistakes. Now you recommend to rent a wing and try it out cause it’s so easy... we know and we see it’s not a sport people learn in one day. And trying it on their own might actually discourage many people especially if their equipment is not suitable and they will repeat some of the beginner mistakes on and on without knowing it should be done differently to get quicker to success. Another thing about kitesurfing, yes, lines etc. however with proper instructions and safety precautions it’s a safe sport. However, wingfoiling does give a possibility to get on the water where kiting would be close to impossible. Ditching the sport for not being that safe because of the lines is not completely fair. We see the sports to be complementary together with SUP, wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing etc. the more experience one has the more knowledge of the sea one gets. And it’s all about continuous learning and having fun no matter the sport ;) high five 🖐

    Thank you! Yes, I do believe people should take a course to lear the right way. It is not as easy as it looks and the chances a rider has to actually stay in the sport will be based a lot of the initial impressions. We all need a lot of stubbornness and a strong will to pursue learning an new sport from zero. That’s where the school comes in. To help you get going better and get results faster. And also get connected in the social circle around the school, I see the social side as very important as well. And if you do several sports you have more chances to be in the water and have fun! Thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts. Where are you guys situated?

    Hey, thanks. My take on windows is they help some but riding without is not really a problem. Even if you have windows you would still need to lift up the wing to check around before you for example make a jibe. Also wings are in many cases lighter without windows. In my experience I would choose windows if I have to similar wings. But if one wing is more to my liking and it does not have windows I would still go with that one as no windows also works fine. I hope this make any sense. 😃 let me know if you have any detailed thoughts on windows. Where do you ride?

    @@anikibrother7691 Hey, nice to hear you’re giving wing foil a try. Of those wings you mentioned I’ve tried the ozone and it had great power but the handles threw me off. I tried the wasp V1. Maybe they have a newer out? The others I don’t know. But I know they use the Freewing here in El Niño surf Center and they are happy with it. Of course the best way would in you could take them each on a ride but that often isn’t possible. You would probably be fine on either. As you are starting out you don’t know too much about specs and performance in wing foil. So get started with the wing that feels the best or is the most intriguing! ;-) Get a big foil and a board and just get out on water. Do you have foil and board yet? As you progress you will have more knowledge and then you can start shaping out your material more precise to your riding style and conditions. You are in a good spot as it looks when I checked on the map. A bit cold but they make great wet suits these days, right?! 🤩 Let Me know later on how you are doing. Have fun and stay safe.

    Hi Mike, Thanks for watching, and yes. It is some money to get all the stuff. But you can of course make a good investment from start by getting some second hand gear. During my time wing foiling, I have heard of people braking some of their stuff but not to any extent. Things happen, but it has been no problem for us here. Learning 360 jump tricks, I guess anything can happen... and that could also turn to be expensive of course.

  • @wingfoil_mallorca

    @wingfoil_mallorca

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey, it’s true the extra fin helps a lot. If you SUP wing and you only have your fins in the back, the difference is you have to get the edge of the board down and you have to work more on the turning of the hips up against the wind. A bit more complicated but very doable. We learnt without the extra fin and it was fine. Any way you do it is great, the most important thing is to be on the water learning to control the direction and how the wing works. You need to get your handling of the wing and “steering” under your belt before you change to the foil. When you get on the foil board you will have more than enough to focus on getting everything to work together. You have a lot of fun ahead. Protect your knees, fight through the initial hard times and then the world of wing foil is open! Have fun and good luck!

    I have wind surfed and kite surfed. While kite surfing has more adrenaline, wing surfing gives me many more good sessions. I think you missed in your list through coming from SUP that wing surfing has more ability to depower in very strong winds. Combine that with your mention that in too light winds you can simply put it down and paddle for a while, and then use the energy of your own body to make the difference to get up in very light winds. I also like that it is a low impact sport. Falling is in the water and when up, your foil is under the chop, much smoother than surface riding. People don't quite appreciate at first that this really is a 3D sport. At first it's a complication, a hinderance but later as you move to higher performance equipment, in waves this literally gives a new dimension to surfing and with time you can build the skill to fly the foil under water like an albatross does between the waves, dynamic soaring. exploring the under water energy in the dynamic of waves to an extent not possible on skate board ramps.

    @@wingfoil_mallorca I'm too heavy! 115 kg. Wind wings I have my first, and S25 Naish 5.3, not powerful. An O.R. Glide, just the boom is Alula, it's a good wing. A 6m Ensis version 1. Very powerful but usually feels draggy- not so much on my new foils though! A PPC 2.8 and 3.8. Very powerful for their size but the wings do not depower well, I think the handle positions maybe not quite right. Then my foils, 1800sq cm I designed to learn on, 2650 when the Naish wouldn't easily get me up on the 1800, then I started working my way down. A wavy 1400sq cm swept delta mono that I can also ride with a tail, I cand ride it as a mono but i'm not athletic enough to enjoy it much, also there were issues with my CNC mould accuracy and wing thickness. Then I have 4 smaller wings but 2 are my first generation speed wings and 2 are my second gen with wing twist. Higher stall angle, lift and much friendlier al around behaviour. Another mould almost ready for a smaller, faster version and another wing model close to moulding for a more speed optimised version of my 1145. I shifted the twisting out a bit and thinned the profile too. I suspect it will be my new favorite once I complete it. I did my own 93 litre board too but with various changes it's a bit too heavy and I'm soon to take delivery of a Fanatic 5'4 inflateable, I think 110 litres which is plenty for me at my level. Plimmerton is close for me, I can sail it in north east to north west, south west to south east depending on tide, Also many other good spots within 40 minutes drive or less. I can adjust for wind strength by going closer or further from Wellington. Many or the wind surfers now winging and I started the kite exodus to winging, there are about 8 local kiters at various levels of winging now.

She told us she took up wing foiling for the new challenge but also because it is easier on a woman's body especially at high professional levels. She was tired of spending so many gym hours to build her legs for protection kiting. With wingfoiling, time training on the water helped her more. She won ladies wingfoiling world champs a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, jus think that both sports can be for anyone, just depends on the individual and maybe the accessibility of their local conditions for learning.
