Great video, thanks! My first board is a 5"10 (110 liter) F one rocket, no footstraps. Standing and balancing was quite easy because I used to windsurf when I was a kid (40 years ago) but the biggest frustration was that I could never get this setup on foil... I was using a 85cm mast and 1280 F one phantom foil... After a lot of months on the ocean surfing back and forth, someone borrowed me a F one gravity 1800 foil, and like magic, I was flying, and my body imediately addapted to that new balance. So whatever you do, start out with a huge foil and then downsize when you get the hang of it!
Yes, that is a such an important lesson for everyone that starts out. To compensate lack of technique with large material until you’ve got the basics right.
Really good video, content and filming/edit, as usaul from you.
Hi, Thank you for the very nice video 😉 could you tell me the best spots of Palma Bay in summer to do some Wingfoiling ? Is there any spaces where it’s not allowed to do some (outside of the 300m of course) in Palma bay ? Just starting and living in Palma center. Muchas gracias 🎉
Hi, the place most of us ride and hang out is in Can Pastilla. You can also ride in Es Calo at the end of the bay. As far as I know, the whole bay is open for wing foil. But come and have a look and a chat with us in Can Pastilla. 🤙
Great videos… thx a lot
You are welcome! If this advanced your learning I’m happy. This is why I made the video. And…there are plenty more videos in my channel for your further learning. Stay safe! 🤙
@@wingfoil_mallorca Would be a pleasure to cu saturday in Barcares
Ah, you live here? Weekends are a bit tricky for me because of work. But if the conditions are really good up North I might be considering squeezing in a session before work! 😆
What beach is the one at the beginning of the video with all the kite surfers?
Can Pastilla beach, the northern part of Playa de Palma.
And your wing foiling scene?
In the next video.
Great video, thanks
You are welcome. I hope you get up riding faster as this was my goal with this video. Stay safe! 👌
Thankyou, best advice ever
Thanks man! -And these advice really works! 👍👍
Looks great. Can we fly there direct from Porto?
Hi, if you mean Portugal, the answer is yes. We flew with TAP.
Thanks for the great info! I am going to get into this sport and would appreciate your reccomend for the wing and foil best for my situation. I am 5"8 160lb. Lifetime of surfing experience. No wind experience. I think I will learn fast so probly an intermediate type of set up right?
Hi, yes, your background will definitely be an advantage. However start a few sessions borrowing a big board so you float well to get a grip on handling the wing and how to jibe, go upwind and so on. If you directly start with smaller gear it will take a lot getting used to initially. Well, it depends if you ride in a place with good, strong wind or not is what I mean.
I'm learning the wing on land right now. One thing I'm noticing is I can only keep it controllable almost directly nose into the wind. As soon as I try to angle the wing just 10 degrees or so off center the wind grabs it too hard and pulls a wingtip down into the ground. (6m wing for our 10mph MAX summer winds, and i'm 5'8") I know I'm trying to sail across the wind, at something approaching 45 degrees to the wind. I grasp that some of that is using your body to twist through your legs to point the board where you want to go. But is the wing always pointing directly upwind? I've been e foiling 2 summers and now ready to learn to wing in our light wind conditions. (inland lake). SUP first to learn the wing and then Gong Cruzader inflatable to foil. :)
I hear you and this is a part you have to get through by investing more hours and eventually you will figure it out. It is true that the hips and legs control the direction of the board and you use the wing to get more or less “gas” in your rides.
excellent information for a new winger, old windsurfer
Thanks, glad you found something of value. Blood, sweat and tears behind those recommendations! 😇
Hi there , what would be the nearest hotel and airport. Many thanks, see you soon, I hope.
Hello, there’s only one airport, so that’s easy. Closest hotels are in Can Pastilla. Which is close or in Playa de Palma with its 5 km long sandy beach. Welcome!
Hi, what about he Axis Froth? Could you also recommend it to a beginner? Obviously in the larger sizes. Or is it too technical board?
Hi, the froth board in a larger size would be fine for a beginner. It has a pretty simple shape. It’s steady and quite easy to ride. The red one is specially 😊
Nice review. Axis keeps inventing new shapes, I wish I had access to all their new suff just to compare. I have 2 Axis front wings 970 and 1150. Both are from the red series, and feel like super outdated. It looks like there is no reason to start from the Red series at all nowadays. 1201 might be good for a new learner. I learned how to foil straight and gybe in 10-20kt. But 20kt is not really fun on my setup. It feels overpowered even with 40m wing. So I'm upgrading to the Black series for 15-25kt wind days. I'm considering ART 999 paired with 360/45 skinny and Crazyshort Advance fuselage. This is going to be a huge change for me, since each part of the setup is upgrades. But my research tells me that I should be fine with it after a learning curve
Thank you. My opinion is, depending on your background of course, start with everything really big to progress fast. I do not suggest 1201 or 1099 for low wind if you do not have a very good level. 999 will be great for fast days! 899 as well. Good luck.
@@wingfoil_mallorca Thank you. I had lots of questions I wanted to add into my comment but then I found answers in other your videos. You described the transitioning to a smaller rear wing and fuselage quite well. Keep going, this is really helpful
@@wingfoil_mallorca What do you think of Skinnies in comparison to the Progressive series? Is it okay to go from a 390 to a 355/55 (or even smaller) for a rider who is working on gybes, in your opinion? I'm considering the 1201 to fill the gap between my large foils: PNG 1150, BSC 970, and Art 999. Not for low wind days, as you said, but for something at 12-15kt (I call it not low :)). Currently my 970 feels too slow in these conditions. I'm not sure though if 1050 could work for me better. It's a very poplar wing but it has the same size as 970. It must be faster, but aren't they in the same league? Maybe 980-930 would work better and 1050 and 1201. It's just so many options...
Thank you so much 😀
You're welcome 😊
What size SUP w/b good to attach a center fin to. Is an inflatable SUP OK? 116lbs 5’2”
Yes, for a first learning experience any SUP board is fine. And a center fin makes it even easier. The objective is to learn to navigate with the wing and to be able to concentrate on that you need something stable to stand on. Good luck!
Thank you for the video. If you do an update with the back strap could you talk about positioning the straps in relation to the foil. Enjoyed your video and also seeing the location. The last time I was in Puerto Pollenca there was no such thing as wingfoiling. Just shows how long ago it was since I was there.
You’re welcome! Noted about the update! Next time you get here you can enjoy Mallorca on water as well. So bring your gear…🤙
Hello good evening. My name is Sebastian Pesci. I live in Argentina. First, congratulate him for the great content of the channel and for his achievements in it. If possible, I would like to ask you a question regarding the equipment to be used. I'm starting out in wingfoil. Thank you so much
Hello Sebastian, thank you. If you have a question, go ahead! 👍
@@wingfoil_mallorca I wanted to ask you because I'm in doubt about how to proceed. I'll tell you briefly, I'm starting out in wingfoil and two months ago I bought a 112 liter reedin board with a 5.2 m sail. I weigh 80 kilos and am 1.80 tall. The problem is that I can't balance to be able to navigate standing up. For this reason I don't know whether to continue insisting on this same board or get a bigger one, I had even thought about a SUP board. Like the time? I never did sailing sports. Only boat and sometimes jet motorcycle
Hi again, you are on the right track thinking you should start with a bigger board. Try a SUP and go out and practice learning to navigate with the wing. You need a steady board so you can concentrate on working with the wing. When you have the skills to go out and back and also jibe in both directions you can go back to your Reedin board. Now your chances to make it have increased lot. However a 5.2” board for a rider with no experience is usually too small to start with. If you can, try/borrow a bigger foil board of 6’-7’ and see how you feel with that one. However you will outgrow such a big board quite fast but many times it is absolutely crucial to start that big. Give this advice a try and come back to me and let me know how you do. Good luck!
Good video, thank you !
Thank you! Hope you cut some corners! It’s all about having more fun time on water!
Nice review and probably a very good wing, however to me the pricing of almost 1000 Euro for 4m seems way over the top. Last year after quite a long struggle with myself I bought a brand new 8m (yes, eight!) Strike Cwc for 999 Euro on discount…
Thank you. Yes, prices for wings in general has gone up up last years. This wing is priced more or less like other wings in this size. That’s where we are at now with regular wings. Don’t mention the wings with a frame of Aluula. They are over 2000€. Everything has jumped up in price since the Covid hickup!
Terrific video!👏👍 Excellent instruction with practical tips and encouragement for anyone taking up the sport. Keep the sharp focus on basic skill development on how to progress. Looking forward to watching more of your content.
Thank you very much, happy you got something from the video. There are a lot more videos to watch on the channel. I hope you subscribed to follow along on the journey! Where do you ride?
How much does he weigh?
He weighs 72kg.
@@wingfoil_mallorca 🤣 Yea I where 77kg when I started windsurfing not anymore. 🤣 87 kg today 92.5 kg with gear.
@alfskaar489 Jajaja..that’s what we all struggle with! 👌😂 There are only 2 solutions. Bigger gear or salad for a year or two. Puh!
Hi. Excellent video and most informative, thanks. I didn't quite understand which fuselage was being used? And would he gain better low end results eg: earlier lift and better pumping with a larger stabiliser? Regards.
Thank you! He was using the "short" fuselage. Good point! Probably a bit larger stabiliser could help the slower wings, I think the 1121 rides best with a skinny stab because it is meant to be used in fast conditions. But the 1100, 1401 probably would benefit.
If you don’t want to be able to see through your wing the ONLY section to attach the wing is to the stab while the foil is pointing downwind.
I agree. That is how I usually do it. But many, many lay their board on the side and fasten the leash on the mast and have the wing downwind. Where do you ride?
Great Review. I know he was standing on a slope at the beach but his Paddle length seemed a little long compared to some Pro DWSUPFer's. Does Ruben use a different length Paddle for Flat Water vs DW Bumps/Waves/Swell?
Hang on and I’ll let him tell you. But as far as I know, I have only seen him with the same paddle last months.
Hi, yes when you are in the water shorter will be better, you have more power and les shoulder efforce. But when you are flying some times i dont touch the water in some strockes, that make me some inestability. We are now testing going with a paddle two pieces and we change the large when we are flying
Also in every country has different power swell, you can see people that when thay are flying not use the paddle again, only pumping with the legs. In my place we use a lot the paddle to keep fly between bumps
Great test Fred. I am glad Ruben was game enough to take a chance with this challenge - good on him! Did anyone ask Ruben to give his opinion on flat water or downwinding foiling with a 1050 HPS? That is where I intend to give it a go in sunny Perth and don’t feel like spending my hard earned On yet another piece of kit if I know I don’t need to or at least for a while. Cheers Fred
Hi Frederic, yeah, what an effort getting through all of those foils. Yes, we have talked about making something similar and adding PNG 1300, could throw in HPS 1050 also. Stay tuned! 💪💪
Fred have you changed your phone number?? im trying to text you
@Elninosurfcenter No!
Great Effort! Great Vid. Thx Guys
Thanks, yes, incredible effort doing the video. And the paddle was hard as well! 😉 Haha, no it is the other way around of course! 😀
Muy bien Rubén desde Wingfoil Costa Dorada 😎
Ruben is the man! Hope all is well Dan!
despite what he says the 1401 looked way way easier and effortless to pump
Yes, I agree. Looks definitely easiest of them all. It would have been great if he also had tested a PNG 1300 as comparison. Might do another video on this topic when Ruben got his breath back to normal again. That was some serious effort to pull that off. Hat of for that.
@wingfoil_mallorca That would be amazing if you and Ruben could do that! Which fuselage and rear was he using?
@BrettWae He was on the standard fuse and the skinny 365/50 rear wing. A good combo.
Hi, im was trying to splain that for begginers learning is better the 1300png or 1310 depend your weight, but of course when you are flying it has a lot of drag to keep going. 1401 is a lot better when you are flying but on the water is better the others at the beginning
@@wingfoil_mallorca was short
Awesome information!
Thanks Brett, I’m happy if what we did gave you some insight into these foils and maybe even made you choose easier. Cheers
@wingfoil_mallorca It really does help! Especially for those who can't test before they buy. I have the 1150/short reg. fuse/460v1 rear on a 82cm aluminum mast. I love it for everything I do winging but eyeing up my next move. I want to get into the black fuselage range and think the 1401/ultrashort adv. with one of the skinny rears will take over the very light wind and paddle ups I want to explore and then use a smaller ArtPro or a spitfire *xxx* for the medium to higher winds. We rarely get 20-35knot days.
Yes, sounds good. That is a killer setup! 🤙
7:40 When Ruben is explaining more about the ARTPRO1401, it is in the context of comparing it to PNG 1300/1310.
I have found one thing for switching hands that is shown in your video but I didn’t hear you mention is the wing leash attached to the waist. I can’t tell you how much I have had problems with switching hands when the leash was attached to one wrist or the other. It just became caught too much on one or another forearm and non intuitive.
Hi, yes, I agree. Happy to hear your progress. I had the same experience. Did not like having the leash in my wrist. Also when the leash arm is at the back it goes over the front handle which is a bit annoying. Since I switched to a waist attached leach, so many things fell into place. Where do you ride?
Nice video 👍
Thank you! 🤙🤙
which beach do you launch from in Mallorca
Many, but weekdays normally Can Pastilla.
Hello sir. Nice review as always. Is it possible to tell me what is the diameter of the vayou boom? Thanks in advance
Hi, thank you! I will have to measure the book tomorrow. Will let you know! Cheers
What is the best wing for light winds on inland waters (gusty). A Vayu Aura or VVing 6m? Which one do you recommend?
Hi Bart, good question. I would prefer the Aura because it is very easy to handle, lighter than the VVing and has a little different shape that makes it just that little easier to handle. VVing II is quite heavy already in 5,5 as was the size I had earlier. Then I had a 6 Aura and that was the better wing. Then I tested V3 and that one is very powerful but tricky to pump with. Now with the Aura 2 they have improved an already good wing a little more. Hope this helps! Stay safe! 🤙
Excellent video and wing review. Awesome 🤙
Hey Robert, good stuff!! Thanks a lot!
Mycket bra filmat. Bästa hittills👍
Tack Ulf! 🤙🤙👊
seem a pretty cool wing !
Yes, i was surprised how much they have refined an already great wing in the Aura. It’s just gods at almost everything. The only thing that it does not have is the stiff leading edge and strut of the Aura X. Som this is an affordable version of the Aura X. And that says a lot! Have you or can you try it?
@@wingfoil_mallorca i didnt had the chance to try them , iam in france .
Come here and get mine..😊
@youdigsurf Come here and try mine…🤗
Qué bueno tener tus videos de vuelta!!
Looks like a great wing and magic conditions and warm weather🥶
Have you or will you be able to try one?
As a life-long Windsurfer, I have transitioned to Wind foiling with traditional windsurfing sails. It extends my range from 15-30 up to 7-35. I get 15-20 more days on the water with my foil than I would just sailing as normal.
Yes, the foil is an additional part that brings many possibilities and a lot of fun! 🤩
What is your favorite foil for winging in different wind conditions from white wind to medium wind to Highwind?
Roy, I’d say ARTPRO 1201 from 11-12 knots. Spitfire 960 from 12-16 knots and Spitfire 840 from 16- even ART 899 is great in strong wind. Haven’t been on the ARTPRO smaller versions but they are “scary fast” 😜
Is the splitfire 1180 more stable and better turning then the 1201 just slower?
Yes, that is a good summary.
Hej Frederic. Im coming from Åland island to visit your island in late april! Bringing my own gear. What kind of wind can i expekt? Ses på vattne/ Johan
Hej, nice. In the end of April the thermic winds may have started. Depends if the weather is warm. If you are lucky you will then have 10-15 knots every afternoon. If no, then it is harder to predict what wind strength there could be. But normally there will be wind enough to wing foil with.
I use the 1150 all the time with my 1099 what’s the advantage of the new pro 1201?
The 1201 has a very good glide. The 1150 is not even close. The 1201 is closer to 1099, a bit slower but with a lot better glide. Amazing glide. It is the most sold front wing of all Axis foil front wings. That is surely for a reason!
A lot of people like the 1150 for dock starting because it’s so easy to dock start is the 1201 as easy or is it more difficult to dock start?
@roymassey1364 True, the 1150 is a great foil to start learning to dockstart. 1300 and 1310 demand a little more technique and higher speed. The 1201 needs even more speed to use for dockstart. Definitely not for a beginner in dockstart. For wingfoil the 1150 is very slow. The 1300 faster and the 1201 really nice. Faster and easy with a lot of glide.
Nice video! Are these "lightweight" wings less sturdy than previous generations? Seems like the the weight and price have both gone down a lot since my 1st Gen Slingwing, but at what cost in durability? I'm inland lake so no reefs or big waves to deal with but things still happen. ???????
Thank you. Yes, the newer wings are lighter yet still holds up really well. I would say they are even better. Add to that the possibility to have hard handles or even a boom. New material as well os making its way into the wings. However the newer material do have I higher price. But yes, evolution makes it way! Where do you ride?
@@wingfoil_mallorca Clear Lake in northern Indiana. Yeh the handles/boom part would be nice. I Have Gen 1 and 2 Slingwings and the 2 is a lot lighter, but still heavier than the new wings. Wind is very very light, so you have a lot of slack wind time and holding the wing up trying to move.
@mikeb1039 Nice! If you have a big wing and the leading edge and strut is from Aluula the wing is very light. Like no other.
Looks like me on a 8 knot day!!! Haaa😂😂
Haha, I bet! 🤪😂😂. Where do you ride?
@@wingfoil_mallorcaSan Diego
@henryhester1897 Cool. What are the conditions there for wing foil?
@@wingfoil_mallorcawe have light winds generally in the 8-12 mph zone with highs around 25-30 rarely.
Outstanding! Really nicely done and clearly shows us what we need to do. I (and others) were definitely limited by our very sore knees in the beginning. 3 years ago I bought a wing to try with my SUP but our very light winds (midwest inland lakes) made it a frustrating experience. Gave in and bought a Lift efoil and learned to foil the past 2 seasons. Now ready to learn the wing and can't wait to be able to foil in the light winds that stink being board on water. :)
Thank you! Yes, go for it! It is definitely worth it. And with my tips and recommendations you will get to your goal faster! Good luck! 😉
