Akumal is a coastal resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, on the Yucatán Peninsula. Akumal Beach has white sands, a coral reef and warm waters rich in marine life, including turtles. To the north, Half Moon Bay has a curved beach, while Yal-ku Lagoon teems with colorful tropical fish, plus stingrays and barracudas. Inland, Aktun Chen Parque Natural is known for its caves, cenotes (freshwater pools) and underground river.

I stayed in Akumal in 1983. It was a quiet, little known area ( Riviera Maya didn’t exist). We slept in huts on the beach. Hotel only had walker talkee. Xel-ha wasn’t a water park, but the snorkeling was great. . Honestly, This makes me a bit sad to see… but it still all looks beautiful.

Já reparou como a gente não quer que os lugares que conhecemos no passado se desenvolvam? Não é uma crítica, é só uma observação mesmo e eu me incluo nisso. Quando mais pessoas vão descobrindo o lugar e ele vai passando por transformações, é muito comum a gente ter essa sensação de nostalgia. Eu mesma prefiro sempre viajar para lugares pouco turísticos, para ver a cultura e interagir com a população local, quando o turismo em massa descobre o lugar e ele se torna mais "acessível", ele vai perdendo a graça (para mim).
