One of the best pros about Erie, that you forgot to mention is that we are a very diverse city with quite a few restaurants and stores that feature food and products from all over the world.

I live a little bit south of Erie, this is mostly accurate. I stay here because it is probably one of the cheapest places to live. 27K a year and Im technically considered poverty level. But i can still afford a one bedroom apartment and have a car. Winters can be a bit rough but climate change feels like they are getting more bareable. Overall if you want economic stability and can stand the winters, would recommend

I would personally tell any newcomer to this part of the country to look at Youngstown, Ohio instead of Erie. Gas is cheaper, housing is more affordable, the locals are far friendlier, there is no mandatory state vehicle inspection every year, winters down there aren't as bad, and the job market in Youngstown is very similar to what it is in Erie. Probably the only thing Erie has over Youngstown is that crime is lower here. YO itself has a lot of bad neighborhoods, but if you wanted to rent a decent, reasonable apartment in a relatively safe place like Austintown or Boardman, you would pay about the same as you would for a place somewhere on the west side of Erie.

I moved here from NJ in 2019... So much more affordable here. I've traveled to Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburg, Detroit, Toledo and several cities in Canada fro the first time in my life all by car. I'm is a very safe area of the east side.... Best thing I ever did.

Don't overlook Syd's restaurant for great lake perch! Erie may not be as big as Cleveland or Pittsburgh, but it's still a good-sized city for the area that measures up to those two cities. Also, nearby northeast PA has beautiful scenery and small towns well worth visiting all year round.

If anybody noticed from one year on, the detail about "no earthquakes" may be true for Erie County, PA but 65 miles west, near Madison, OH there was a 2.3 tremor today (02 JUN, 2024)!

ERI airport doesn't fly to Detroit anymore after Delta pulled out. BUT! The airport is VERY easy to get to, parking is cheap, and security only takes two minutes (or less). I fly very often and I love flying out of ERI, it's quick and easy. United flies to O'Hare and occasionally Dulles, American flies to Charlotte.

I've lived here and in Girard most of my life. Traffic can get pretty bad and the healthy food options are getting better. Local produce is dirt cheap and there are indeed a lot of older people. Winters will literally make you want to leave.

Erie's public consumption laws are more relaxed than most places. It's not uncommon to see someone walking down the street inside the Erie city limits drinking a tall boy or a 40, and a cop cruises right past them without giving them a second look. On the other hand, try that in Millcreek, Wesleyville or Lawrence Park. Lol.

Nice video and just about everything seems to be correct except you forgot to add two more cons. 1. We have only one gas company and one electric company. 2. Not many choices in your internet provider. I lived in Cleveland and there you have many choices in which utility company you want to deal with because they have more than just one. But all and all I wouldn't trade this city for all the tea in China. Thank you. Very well done.

Erie more or less has no "Little Italy" anymore. But the area that locals used to refer to as that was generally the area of West 18th Street between Sassafras and Liberty streets. And I'll be completely blunt with you: unless you live in the neighborhood, there is really no reason to go there except for International Bakery during daylight hours. Outside of that, there isn't much to see, and it is not a very safe neighborhood.

I disagree with your perception of our distance from the three major metropolitan areas, especially for retired people. We go to all three regularly with an emphasis on Cleveland. We probably average once every 5 weeks. Granted, it’s not around the corner, but if you come from another US major metro area like NYC, Boston, Chicago etc., the travel distance may be greater, but the travel time is just a bit longer, on average. Lack of stupid traffic is a great offset.

Buffalo is 97 miles from Erie, straight shot on the New York State Thruway but you have to pay toll. Cleveland is 102 miles in the other direction along I-90, and Pittsburgh is 128 miles south along I-79.
