    Erie is a gem but like most great lakes cities, its suffers from unpredictable weather and highly embedded old world culture that plagues its neighborhoods. I look around the city and see neglect and poverty. This prevents any reconstruction effort or remodeling of existing structures. The same 100 year old homes in the same neighborhoods are still standing inna dilapidated state. You can build new developments around that dilapidation but people wonder why this exists unchanged for decades. Erie has culture, recreational facilities and reasonable housing but it all falls apart if its raining. The lake may soften winter storms but invites rain all summer. Can’t fish, can’t beach, can’t plan a wedding outdoors, wash your car. People have to be ok with that and the environment reflects that and that is what outsiders see.

    Don't overlook Syd's restaurant for great lake perch! Erie may not be as big as Cleveland or Pittsburgh, but it's still a good-sized city for the area that measures up to those two cities. Also, nearby northeast PA has beautiful scenery and small towns well worth visiting all year round.

    Syd's restaurant, known for their terrific lake perch, is the #6 reason to live in Erie, PA. By the way, are those coke ovens still operational on the lake front?

    If anybody noticed from one year on, the detail about "no earthquakes" may be true for Erie County, PA but 65 miles west, near Madison, OH there was a 2.3 tremor today (02 JUN, 2024)!

    That tower on that pier was where I tried to propose to my fiancée, after we had dined at Smuggler's Wharf (that place with the vines all over it). However, it was the middle of November, and it was cold as hell! Instead of going up there, we went to the museum where they were doing a presentation about the sunken boats in Erie. After all that fun, we went home and I just popped the question when we got home, hah. Erie is pretty good. It's easy to get tripped up on the doom and gloom, but Erie really is "what if a quite small town was actually a really big city?", and there is definitely an appeal to that.

    Come on with all this positive, u have to add the negative. Yes EVERYTHING about the lake is true, but u forgot to mention it causes lake effect snow, brutal winters and horrible springtime because if ice on the lake. Pittsburgh will be 61* Erie will be 42*. Yes u get alot if home for the price but its because people make 30k a yr where most everywhere else is 50k

    Hey Joe, What are the safe middle class neighborhoods? Do we have a little Italy in Erie?

  • @BigBaller-he1dz
    @BigBaller-he1dz2 ай бұрын

    Erie is a ghetto slum. Little Italy is now Little Beirut.

  • @mayavenuemisfit814
    @mayavenuemisfit81423 күн бұрын

    Erie more or less has no "Little Italy" anymore. But the area that locals used to refer to as that was generally the area of West 18th Street between Sassafras and Liberty streets. And I'll be completely blunt with you: unless you live in the neighborhood, there is really no reason to go there except for International Bakery during daylight hours. Outside of that, there isn't much to see, and it is not a very safe neighborhood.
