And who better to start with than Donny van de Beek. This guy was one of the major players in Ajax’s crazy run to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019; he scored against Juventus and Spurs in the quarter-final and semi-final of the Champions League that season, but he joined Man United in 2020 and everything just went downhill from there.
And you know who else we could say that for? Paul Pogba.
And already, it seems we’re seeing a similar pattern with Mason Mount who just joined in the summer. Mount was great for Chelsea. I mean, this is a guy who has a Champions League-winning assist to his name, but we’re all currently watching his career being destroyed by Manchester United.
I mean, the OGs will remember Shinji Kagawa, the highest-scoring Japanese footballer in the history of UEFA club competitions. Just like Sancho, Kagawa moved from Dortmund where he was thriving and highly-rated to Manchester United.
And you know this list would not be complete without mentioning Alexis Sanchez. Man United hijacked the Chilean from Man City, and from the first day he stepped foot in training, he just knew he didn’t want to be there.

Forlan also had a good season with Villarreal. The club finished in Champions League spot and he scored 25 goals, tied with Samuel Eto'o for El Pichichi in 2004/05 La Liga season. They also reached the Champions League semifinal, with Forlan playing a key role along with Argentinian Roman Riquelme. However, his career changed drastically after being named as MVP in 2010 World Cup after Uruguay reached the semifinal controversially. After the flop season with Atletico, he moved to Inter Milan and disappointed many fans.
You should have included Ronaldo's second spell at Man Utd.

I disagree with a few. We didnt ruin Sancho, the man just never applied himself with any intensity, even non fans of United would admit he coasted through games, we sometimes even forgot he was on the pitch. Pogba joined the team at a time we were in transition, had some good games for us but injuries and his ego did him in. Martial is same as Sancho, immensely talented, phoned in performances and injuries did the rest. Mount just joined us and has not been around with any regularity to play because of injuries. A strange signing yes but the jury is not out on this one. Kagawa joined as SAF left and so was underused and then left. We can argue this happens at all clubs. Smith - Rowe for Arsenal, Philips at City, Ceballos at Madrid, its not unique to United. Sanchez joined us and was shit from the first day to his last. Should have never signed him. His performances and form was not on us and he only joined for the money. Depay is similar to Sancho and Martial, came in on high wages and didn't quite settle in. Ahem, Mudryk at Chelsea. Januzaj wasn't good enough period. Take a look at his career since and you can tell he found his level. If you really want to drill deep on clubs who do their signings and Academy players dirty, check out Madrid and Barcelona.

Every club you can mention has players who either didn't fit in or were underutilized. Its not unique to United.
