this is so damn important! I have been riding for more than 20 years and I'm still somewhere in the intermediate area, since I can only go for a couple of days per year. So depending on the slope or run I can still feel somewhat insecure and like to take it slowly. And still there's so many people just flying by without watching out for anybody else, or just using the whole mountain for themselves and I just want to punch each and everyone of them. Plus, I am riding with my GF and she's still a beginner, so I am at the same time trying to choose suitable runs for her as well and always keep an eye out for her and her safety as well - plus keep my surroundings in check. It's a bit of work sometimes ^^

I think it would be wise for beginners to avoid narrow runs with trees on both sides. One, because you could easily loose control and fly into the woods. For beginners: if you’re planning to go on a chairlift then install some preferably rubber stomp pad on your board so your back foot won’t slide out of the slick snowboard when you’ll drop off the lift. #11 - Do NOT stop at the bottom side of the knuckle after a kicker, or cut through there. I can't tell you how many times I'm in the air and it looked clear but then there's some kook just hanging out at the base of the landing area. #12 - Do not cut into a banked slalom, no matter what skill level you are. One time I was blasting through the banked slalom and some kid and his friend dropped in, right into me... I'm 195 lbs and I was flying (it's a 'race track' basically) and I launched the kid back up and over the wall when we collided. I couldn't avoid him... and then they were mad at me. Unreal. This video might seem like common sense stuff but unfortunately, it's all too common.

Whenever you are riding, your safety should be priority. If you can't avoid collision or it would cause you greater risk to avoiding other person, let me repeat again YOUR SAFETY IS PRIORITY, embrace the impact, even if you break his bones (in worst case), you should still think of yourself first. is it worth missing out rest of the season because of some skin tight jeans wearing duchebag ? - think not.

The one thing that most new riders don't understand is how to know which runs are icy... yeah, I want to avoid them, but how do I know which ones they are until it's too late?... The runs that typically get the iciest are the runs that are in the shade. As people come by, the boards/skis heat up the snow via friction... and then the extra coolness from the shade turns the melted snow into ice... so I would avoid runs that are covered in shade for a majority of the day.

Ok! I have a tip for you. Since you and Chris seems to be riding together all the time, buy a motorcycle bluetooth intercom. It_will_change_everything when you are boarding, trust me on that. Me and my girlfriend bought a cheap version from China ($60-70 including shipping) and it has about 1000 m range in good weather. In snow conditions, about 6-700 m. If you buy a more expensive version like Sena, they have a nice addon for the GoPro. You can talk to each other without shouting and the GoPro will record all that you say. But you need to be "handy" to mount them on snowhelmets, it took me about an hour to mount it on mine and my girlfriends helmet.

Not a tip, but a little story. Last winter was my first season snowboarding. So I went to the mountain with my friend who's been snowboarding since he was 8.. SO first run for the day was black + icy (almost every run was icy on that day)! XDD also we went to the chairlift right after that, wasn't that bad actually. And I personally hate those button lifts! I stay miles away from them and use T-bar and chair. And keep up the good work Kevin! I've watched every video on your channel and your beginner snowboard list countless times already! They're really helping me :)

Great one, thanks!!! My tip for the t-bar is to imagine leaning more on your backleg. That way you can still lean on your frontleg in case you feel like falling forward. Also, be a bit lower at the start, because you might be propelled forward. You can do it!

Still being a beginner I thought I was able to do a intermediate run but It was pretty late so of course a bunch or ice appeared and I was going like 50mph and ended hitting a hump and took off, That made my confidence go straight down.

Hahaha, I had so many falls off the chair lift because when I was learning I never really practiced before going on them. I did better than I thought and didn't fall every time. But there were times where I grabbed on and didn't let go haha and ate it. I learned to push off the seat and that made the world of difference.

As an experienced skier / new snowboarder I wish more snowboards would watch this, as almost all snowboarders nowadays stop in the middle of runs, block unloading areas, etc... I can understand a bit now that I am learning to snowboard, but the rules of the hill apply to all, it would remove a lot of hate from both sides

I grew up skateboarding and was able to ride blacks and moguls after 3-4 days out on a snowboard. I've done one double black now, but still don't feel comfortable on cat tracks around other people or on the long flats. I've also only ridden maybe 10-12 days over the past 20 years. Am I technically still a beginner? Honest question as I don't know if I should consider myself an average/intermediate rider or beginner.

Omg i think staying off the t-bars is important cos when i was still learning the slope we were on only had a t-bar and i kept falling, so i got frustrated and decided to try going up with both legs still in the binds, which ultimately made me fall and the thing started dragging me up the slope :) the person controlling the lift didnt notice cos i was far away fron the start, and i ended up wiggling myself out of one of the binds but my other boot got stuck to its bind and the snowboard went down the slope full speed with one of my boots still on it until somebody stopped it ;)))))

Once I was snowboarding down this thin winding trail that you can go really fast on and right when I hit the last turn there was a group of like 4 young skiers sitting in the blind spot blocking the thin trail. Ugh I gad no time to react and couldn't get around them so I had to fall really hard and I hurt my arm. I yelled at them though. I have know idea what they where thinking.

It would probably be smart to avoid the edges of the path if there is a 'snow cliff' for beginners because they would probably lose control and slide off. I'm a beginner, first time! Can't wait to do it!

How could a beginner avoid a chair lift? There’s no way to go down a hill without going up it first. Also, the number one thing I learned to avoid my first few days was narrow runs. When you’re learning to turn it’s hard to turn sharply, so I kept finding myself on narrow runs without room to turn and having to heel slip until I got to a wider area.

I used to wipe out a lot because I would LOOK DOWN. DON'T look down, just look forward and you will go forward. I was scared of the tiny hill it was on, but I stopped at the bottom due to natural friction. "Look where you want to go"rules in this situation.
