My grandmother was born in Aberdeenshire in 1892 and moved to Canada in 1912. She never made it back home to see her family. I’d love to go there.

Dunnottar, that's my family's old place 😊 My mum was a Keith, descended from a son of Robert Dunnottar, the Rev. James Keith, Colonial clergy, who sailed to America from Aberdeen in 1640s to set up a parish at Bridgewater Massachusetts where his parsonage still stands 😊 I've read he "filled New England with Keiths" including my Grampa Bill's greatgreatgreats😊 I never knew any of this until I retired in 2019 and jumped into Ancestry during Covid.I so wish my mum were still around to know it too, she'd have loved it!❤ Thanks for posting.

I was born in Ellon in 1960 - but only because Peterhead didn't have a maternity hospital then! Although I left the area in 1973 I'm still a "Buchan Loon" - my attachment to North East Scotland is very strong. I had a feeling Slains might be your fav spot. My own children are in their 30s now and I took them to Slains from an early age. During our infrequent visits now from our homes in Midlothian, a visit to Slains is always on our list. I must ssy that it was special, we were the only ones visiting it and it was so peaceful in contrast to the rough sea below. We parked in a small parking space and walked through a small forest to get to it. Recommend to visit. We also visited the Stonehaven Castle it is nice but crowded with tourists.

I remember bunking off the old Port Erroll school as a ten year-old in 1979 with a group of kids to walk up to Slains, on a miserable wet day. Incredibly dangerous place to be in bad weather. There used to be a ride-on model steam railway to get you part-way up the hill from Cruden Bay. The Bullers o Buchan just up the road to the north is always a good way to extend the trip onwards from Slains and up to North Haven where the old quarry used to be.

If you haven't already been, I'd suggest the view at Gannochy gorge, which is just a few minutes drive before Edzell if coming from the Fettercairn direction. It's beautiful in autumn - a red carpet of leaves. Also has a nice walk. In warmer times, also nice to visit Crovie village (it's really a hamlet, a short row of houses literally at the beach) up at the far most north of Aberdeenshire.

Great video, i wonder, have you been to any of the pre-historic stone circles in Aberdeenshire ? I have read somewhere that NE Scotland has the highest concentration of stone circles anywhere in the world. East Aquhorthies ( near Inverurie) is one i would recommend p.s. good luck with the pronounciation of it :D

Nice to see my local area through the eyes of someone new to the area. Great shots from the drone, well done Also try walking the coastal path north of Slains Castle and visit The Bullers o' Buchan where the sea has cut into the cliffs in a very dramatic way (again take care near the edge) It's another couple of miles but there's a car park there as well.

The North Sea where I grew up in between 1957 until 1989 was so awe inspiring. Live in London but when I travel home I deliberately take the train from Kings Cross to Aberdeen. From about Edinburgh to Aberdeen you have the North Sea all the way on your right. So when you book tickets make sure you sit on the right going north and left travelling south. Born in Aberdeen. Oh I loved the video but be careful it is a SEA not an OCEAN which you describe near the end. It is the North Sea. Great video. Oceans are ATLANTIC, PACIFIC. INDIAN. ARCTIC, SOUTHERN OCEAN. I suppose you could add one more; BILLY OCEAN. 😜😜😜Some argue you can break up the Atlantic and Pacific into North and South each. Geography lesson over. I used to have a nickname. MISTER-KNOW-IT-ALL LOL😊😊😊😊😊Drive my wife and family and friends bonkers.

A excellent informative video to say the least. However, no Craigievar Castle on your list? Surely a mistake as it's one of the best and most beautiful looking castles in Aberdeenshire. Not to forget being steeped in history! Maybe I am slightly bias because it's my favourite castle ever, and I work in many castles in England, but surely it deserves to be in there. My opinion anyway. I am visiting Craigievar again (after 8 years) in September, when I tour Scotland for 2 weeks and thus film for my channel. MR
