I got a big laugh at Koji Kondo ripping off a Gillette Razor promotional song for Punch Out.

#5 is another one of those music scales that is used over and over in lots of songs, mostly classical. I don't know which off hand, but it sounds very familiar.

A lot of music in MGS was taken from Policenauts as Kojima really loved the game and he even reused Meryl as well.

The track for Road to Viridian City on Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow is the old diddy Polly Wolly Doodle (or whatever the proper name is).

You actually spelled Polly Wolly Doodle right. The Road to Viridian City is also known as Route 1, and is often called Kanto Route 1 or Gen 1 Route 1 now since later generations of the games starting with Gen 5 Black and White had a Route 1 theme of their own.

I found another video game track that sounds like Toccata and Fugue, and it is a legend. Ultimate Koopa from Super Mario 64. It sounds almost like a mashup of Bowser's Regular Super Mario 64 Theme with Toccata and Fugue, and even uses a MIDI organ too.

Not sure if you ever covered it, but Rock Howard's theme from Mark of the Wolves has a nice solid well-known tribute to Robert Miles' Children.

Deep Purple's "April" (around 30 seconds in) also has similarities in melody and chord progression to the intro cutscene of Ninja Gaiden on NES (right after the sword strike).

Glad to see the Super Villain theme from Maximum Carnage here. That was very familiar when I heard that, not to mention that the AVGN mentioned it too in his brief review of the game in his Wish List Christmas special.

well never mind what I said when I watched episode 2 earlier today. right there at number 10 at the song I mentioned then obviously a whole lot of people remember that one. Of course I only know about that one thanks to an AVGN episode. And yes I've been binging your playlist of these videos during breaks at work today.

great video again! i realised u can also find the melody of super marios underworld theme in a certain part of the song "river people" by weather report!

Another one that I just thought about. Was watching some Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and when I heard "Ice Cap Zone", I could not stop thinking about "Lollipop" by Aqua. Please say this isn't just me.

Shrek Super Slam (the home console version) has a few of these... The Main Theme is similar to "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones. The Clock Tower theme sounds like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. The "Mideval Chef" theme sounds like "He's A Pirate" from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

The "Road to Ruin" and "Ruination" levels from the original Crash Bandicoot 2 had music similar to the song Push It by Salt-N-Pepa.

I really enjoy these! Thank you for putting them together!!!

@@uncannyx 1. I wish you played the whole "Look Sharp March" theme from the NES side, so that people would sing to it before you switched to the next song of discussion. 2. What makes the context on "Teddy Bears' Picnic" song is that, if you look at one of the oldest versions of the Three Bears, there was an old hag that eats their porridge, breaks the small bear's chair, and sleeps on the small bear's bed, while also cussing a storm.

The theme song of the last stage of Streets Of Rage 2 (S.o.r super mix) it's clearly inspired by "Sadeness" from Enigma

ICC you should do a whole episode on Streets Of Rage. The Last Soul is based on Enigma’s Sadeness Pts 1&2 Fighting in the Street is based on Techtronics Pump Up the Jam Go Straight is based on Inner City’s Good Life Also on Stage 4-2 in SOR 2is based on Public Enemy’ Rebel without a Pause

In Skullgirls, the first vocal part of the final boss theme sounds like Stevie Wonder's «Part time lover». 2. In Sunset Riders, you can hear a fast version of Pérez Prado's «Mambo N° 5» during the «CanCan Dance» that is performed after defeating the Smith Brothers. 3. In Violent Storm (arcade), the Stage 5 theme «We are free» is similar to «I wanna be your lover» by The System. In fact, there are some other songs from the Violent Storm soundtrack that could be familiar, check them out.

Dynamite Headdy for the SEGA Mega Drive, the song called 'I Sing' which is the theme for the stage 'Starlight Storm', part of the song at around the 0:26 mark sounds near enough exactly like a part from Jeff Beck's 1976 song; 'Led Boots'. It also has the Nutcracker theme for one of the earlier bosses.

In Chrono Trigger, the theme of Robo is Rick Astley's "Never gonna give you Up" :)

A part of Spread the Wings from Garou Mark of the wolves sounds like Children by Robert Miles.

If you guys played Sonic 3 for the Sega Genesis Ice Cap Zone sounds like the Jetzons (not to be confused with the futuristic family cartoon) Hard Times. If you hear that tone it's a banger.

Wrestlemania 2000 for the N64 has a song that plays on the main menu that sounds kinda like Pantera's Psycho Holiday. Good stuff mane.

Killer instinct intro theme falls on the same first and end notes as the last song.

Final battle in castlevania 1 on nes sounds oddly familiar. It reminds me of Black Sabbath "Falling Off The Edge of the World".

!!!!!! FF7 “the over world theme” or “main theme” is exactly! The same melody from the song “stay on these roads” by 80’s band “A-ha”. Please listen to both tracks in their entirety. I think it’s the best familiar song from FF series.enjoy😁

Btw, found another Megaman song that might actually have gotten influence by another game series' soundtrack: Megaman 8 - Clown Man sounds like it derived a (very) slight influence from the Pallet Town theme from the early Pokemon games.

#10 is WAAAAAY Overdue... #1 was literally a shoutout to their previous work. Sort of an Easter Egg if you will. People from the same team (Kukeiha Club) were was responsible for both. Thanks for the shout out, and No I have not forgotten about that comment. XD Also Time for another Suggestion... since you mentioned it, Streets of Rage is FULL of "borrowed" tunes (As is a LOT of Koshiro's work). Keep the Groovin', for example, borrows from TWO Songs. It infamously samples Madonna's La Isla Bonita at the 34 Second point and it samples Eric Clapton's/Derek and the the Dominos' Layla at about 1 minute and 5 seconds into the song. Second Suggestion though related Ayami Kojima's Reincarnated Soul from Castlevania Bloodlines is Eerily similar to Koshiro's Filmore from Actraiser

Not to be repetitive, but, the ElecMan stage sounds to me like Prowler from Iron Maiden. It predates the Journey, Bon Jovi, and REM song

Battletoads and double dragon also sounds like howling furies by Anthrax.

I have a rather unorthodox submission idea of a song that sounds similar to both an earlier song (that possibly inspired the song) and a later song (that was possibly inspired BY the song). I didn't even notice these connections at first until I heard a cover of the song that referenced the connections directly. I'm referring to the Salvage Chute theme from Bucky O'Hare (NES, 1992), which sports two different riffs, one of which sounds like the earlier "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica (1983) and the other sounding like the later "Back In The Day" by Megadeth (2004).

On #4 of this list, I think I have an idea as to where else you might have heard that song. If you recently purchased the F-Zero 99 game on the switch or have the original SNES version of the original F-Zero, the title screen of these games has that same background melody as this episode's #4 song.

Not sure if this was covered already but I recently found myself playing UN Squadron and once you pick game start and before you pick your plane it sounds like “Chocolate Rain” lol

#2 Sounds more like Good Vibrations from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch....well maybe not more, but a lot like it.

Double Dragon and girls on film: Maybe the dark queen?

The special stage music in Sonic Heroes has a part that sounds very similar to the opening of My Neighbor Totoro. EDIT: and another section that sounds like the chorus to Running in the 90's

Speaking of Streets of Rage 2, though more of someone taking inspiration from Yuzo Koshiro... look up "The Expander" (Level 7 theme), and then take a look at the band Die Antwoord's "Happy Go Suky Fuky"

I don’t know if this already came up but the menu theme of the first Animal Crossing sounds like Summer Nights from Grease

Check out the theme for the planet Titania on the classic SNES Star Fox. To me it sounds oddly familiar to the ET movie theme. If you change the speed just slightly and add a couple beats here and there, the melody seems the same.

In Final Fantasy 2 "The Princess Seduction" theme by Nobuo Uematsu sounds familiar to the Swan Lake theme by Tchaikovski In Conker´s Bad Fur Day "Lava Surfing" theme by Robin Beanland sounds similar to "Jin Kazama´s Theme" in Tekken 3 by Nobuyoshi Sano

That maximum carnage one isn't that just the regular stage music? Eh anyway... I saw it on another and feel its true. The Nes game of Micro Machines - The race start music (next course shown) is close to Smoke on the Water.

The Boss Theme from Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage is also similar to you really got me by The Kinks

If you make another one of these, Simpsons Hit and Run rips off Hell's Bells on the missions 'Milking the Pigs' and 'There's Something About Monty'.

Going back to two old ones: Elecman stage in Mega Man is among other songs, is Papa Roach’s “Between angels and insect.” Also, the song in “Renegade” that you keep almost placing is “The Hippy Hippy Shake” by Chan Romero (also covered by the Beatles).

The Pirate Ship section of Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy for the NES is similar to Yankee Doodle

And don't forget the Donkey Kong Country 2 song " Ice Cave " homage to Vangelis' "Antarctica" . Also , the intro for the Ken stage song in Street Fighter 2 os very similar to the Cheap Trick song " Mighty Wings " .

Ken's Theme and Cheap Trick's Mighty Wings was already covered in the very first episode of this series.

This one is a bit of a stretch, but check out "Suicide Mission" from Mass Effect 2 and compare it to "I am the Doctor" (Doctor Who) by Murray Gold. Not a one to one there, but they do have similar running themes in the background/ bass line.

Whoever gave this video a “thumbs down” is lost! This is an incredible series!

The Metroid Ending reminded me slightly of the Kaos theme, but it's been a long time since I've listened to it.

update! Mr batty twist-mother 3 sounds A TON like the batman theme from the 60s tv show. there's a section in the time warp from the rocky horror picture show that sounds like jungle falls from diddy kong racing. map 1-Yoshi's island sounds kinda like anywhere is by Enya the main theme of Xenon 2: megablast sound like the end by john carpenter rampant-need for speed SE sounds like caught in a mosh by anthrax operation hellfish-the Simpsons hit and run sounds like riding on the wind by judas priest tagging-bully sounds like none other than rappers delight by the Sugarhill Gang.

Nintendo World Cup (NES) has many oddly similar theme. Especially the theme of Russia team: Katyusa. Also team England is oddly familiar, though I cannot figure out what song it is.. I believe some of the other team themes are also from some song..

Green Jelly did a funny metal/rap version of 3 little pigs and actually featured Maynard from Tool.

Friday the 13th has other tunes from various composers. You can even hear 'Old Macdonald had a farm', Bach's 'Toccata' and the 'Wedding March' from Bartholdy.

Suggestion: Roll Theme from MVC and TVC sounds like Tell It To My Heart

Adding onto the Streets of Rage, I believe a majority of Yuzo Koshiro's influence for the series is funny enough taken from a lot of electronic music from that time, specifically The Shamen. Ebeneezer Goode seems to sound a bit from SOR1's first stage.

Pokemon D/P/Pt Route 209 sounds like 21 Guns by Green Day (granted it's a popular chord progression) May's Guilty Gear X theme, Blue Water, Blue Skies, apparently sounds like Forever by Skid Row (though I honestly don't hear it) Ky Kiske's Guilty Gear Xrd theme, Magnolia Eclair, has an intro that sounds like the intro to Electric Eye by Judas Priest (not including The Hellion)

A lot of songs sound kinda like licensed ones. In fact one of the games had a special soundtrack used in its Korean version. That's probably why I don't care much for Guilty Gear stuff as it all sound kinda the same to me.

yeah this whole games soundtrack was heavily influenced by early 90s dance hits. in fact the downtown track bgm sound like a looped sample of "SET YOU FREE" By planet soul lmao.

Remember "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box? That's in Streets of Rage 1 Stage 7.

Not sure if you've done these ones but both never been 1 and 2 by wiz khalifa sample songs from chrono trigger part 1 being schala's theme and part 2 being mysterious forest

Check out WaveRace 64 (Dolphin Park theme), it sounds very familiar to 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' theme song ("You're gonna make it after all")...
