10 Most Underrated OAHU Golf Courses Totally Worth Playing
I used to play a lot of golf in Hawaii, especially in my younger days. I wanted to share my ten favorite golf courses on Oahu, since Hawaii recently hosted the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club (sorry, but it didn't make the list). Most of these golf courses are probably not going to be in your typical top ten lists, but they are courses that I love and would recommend. These Oahu golf courses have character and I have so many wonderful memories playing on them. Let me know what your favorite Hawaii golf courses are in the comments below.

This was a different kind of video, but just wanted to share my thoughts on some of my favorite courses on Oahu. Not a lot of time to play golf these days, but maybe in the future. 😁
What a great video!! Having spent a lot of time on Oahu over the years, I have only ever played Pali. Finally get to come back after many years and I'm looking forward to checking out some of these courses on your list. Loved the vid explaining childhood memories at each course, special game this is.....
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories!

Awesome video, I'm just getting into the sport and I'm excited to check out these courses.
Once a junior golfer always a golfer! So many memories. I’m from Maui so grew up playing at makena golf course (dad worked there) and all over Maui. Then I went boating school on Oahu for high school & got to play on most courses. Yup Michelle Wie & Stephanie Kono was my age group 😬 but learned so much playing with the best! Now as an adult, I live on Oahu & still playing recreationally & loving the game. ⛳️🤙

That's great. I really enjoyed Waiehu back in the day. Awesome that you're still playing.
I’m amazed of the amount of ⛳️ golf courses on Oahu ! I did play the Royal Hawaiian in 2018 , the front 9 was like going through Jurassic Park very beautiful scenery. Most of the vegetation boarding the course and the water courses through the course had been recently cut back which exposed a billion lost golf balls , it was like looking at snow. There was also a electric golf buggy crashed in a ravine, I’ve got photos of this. For an Aussie not use to seeing this scenery was gob smackingly beautiful 👍

Yeah, it's beautiful. I'm sure there are so many balls in those streams.
I started playing golf when I was stationed there. Loved Mamala Bay on Hickam AFB and lived right across the street from the Par 3. Some great golf on Oahu.

@@HelloFromHawaii Unfortunately, never got around to playing there. We did get out on Kaneohe marine base course. They have some great holes along the ocean.
Thanks for sharing. We try at least a couple of courses when we visit with my kids. We do have an annual play at Ko Olina, maybe will change it up this year.

Ko Olina is a great course too. I think the LPGA still plays there.
My dad played at most of these: Kunia, Kahuku, Pali. I started out at the old Bayview. I wish there was a par 3 course in Japan. Actually, there is one out at the USAF base in Fussa, but or course, only military can play there. Green fees are super expensive in Japan, $160 to $300 and I gave it up. Driving ranges are everywhere, but what fun is that? If you ever get to Maui, try the Pukalani Country Club, just $38 for two! The 8th hole par 3 down into the gorge is fun. Good hole-in-one possibility or easy birdie. Also Waiehu Municipal Course, right on the ocean.

$180 to $300 is that USD ?

I went to a driving range in Japan once. It was in the middle of the city so it was only about 120 yards. But lots of fun.
my husband has been into golf for the past 6 months-ish, so i'll be sending him this video lol. we enjoy watching Good Good's KZread channel

Hope he's having fun. It's a great hobby. Can be expensive, though.
I love Kahuku golf course as well. Olomana , lei Lehua golf course, mililani and Hickam (par 3) and Malama
I just picked up on golf as a challenge to start a new hobby. My first lesson was at HK just two weeks ago. I enjoy the driving range and especially the drive to go there from town.

The driving range is nice. Good luck with the new hobby.
You are still very young and have the world ahead of you. One day will come when you retire and will be able to golf everyday. Nice video.

😆 Would love to play nine holes early in the morning everyday when I retire.
I have played on several of the golf courses while visiting. I’ve played at Kunia which is AKA Hawaii GC? It was always very muddy and out in the fields. The Pali GC is really nice because it’s cooler in higher altitude. Ala Wai GC is super crowded. I remembered that we waited a long time to get to play. OLOMANA GC is a very nice course. I played with my mother’s friend’s teenage kids. They had nice long drives being so flexible. My favorite courses were Mililani and Waikele. Both had delicious local foods to enjoy after playing a round. My most favorite course is the in Kaneohe Military Base called Klipper because of its ocean front hole on the 9th or 10th hole. That’s all for now.

Klipper is great. Lots of great memories at all of the great courses.
I’ve never played golf but I’ll pass the word to the family. Good to know.
Good list, thoughts on my old fav Kapolei or fun/stressful ones like Koolau, Luana Hills?

I enjoyed Koolau, but it was in bad shape when I played. Used to practice there because of the bent grass greens.
I've played all of these courses - and am the father of 3 current junior golfers. Hopefully one or both of your kids gets into golf - then you can have family time, and golf time - it has been great for our family. And all the Oahu Muni courses are now free for local juniors - just need that golf ID card. Sounds like you might have been in Coach Casey's program at Olomana - that's also where my kids started.

Great that they are in golf. Didn't know about the Oahu muni deal. Great that it's free. I used to take lessons from Casey back in the day.
Aloha! My son is 11, and we live in Hilo. My coworker goes golfing a lot and gave us some names of instructors who range in experience from more leisurely to the person who can prime someone towards PGA level but can still instruct in a way that kids will understand. I don’t push my child into any particular sports because I am listening to where his interest level is. While he only thinks golf is a bit on the boring side, he is at a stage when he doesn’t realize how much actually goes into it, and he has only gone to the driving range in Hilo. How did you overcome this level of discouragement that made you appreciate the sport more during this journey while growing up?
I only played on military golf courses, but the Marine Corps golf course is by far the best of them. The holes on the back nine right next to the ocean, having to compensate for the winds and the pull when putting. The last two holes going up and down a hill. It was the best.

Hello from Los Angeles. Can someone tell me the names of the top reggae radio stations on the Islands?
Am no golfer but, from your description of Mililani, sounds like trees were/are paper mulberry or, maybe... eucalyptus?

With Oahu golf course there is 2 rates , a higher price for Visitors and a regular for Locals/Military, is it like this on mainland USA ? In NSW Australia where I live , all our courses are one price for everyone no matter where you come from. As a visitor to Oahu and want to play golf , of course you will hire golf clubs and buy golf balls etc - the courses will make money. I’m not sure why the courses feel the need to charge a higher price for Visitors ? But it’s the reverse for Hotels on Oahu , the Locals/Military get a discounted rate, this I understand.
@the92r

Yeah. Far drive, but nice course. One of the more challenging courses.
When I’m on vaca in Hawaii, I don’t golf as it basically takes an entire day, which would be a waste having spent all the time and resources to vaca in Hawaii to begin with. I have golfed Kapalua twice due to wedding stuff which was nice, that course and entire area are amazing. BTw, if I’m not mistaken, I understand that Rancho Park in the Westside of Los Angeles is the most played course in America…this makes sense because there are very few 18 hole courses in LA’s Westside which is a heavily populated area.

Yeah, golf takes up half the day. If it were me, I'd get a 7 am tee time and then be back by lunch. I think Ala Wai was the most popular municipal course.
