I had to skip the Baylor part because it was clear he didn't know anything he was talking about. And I'm not even a Baylor fan. Ya they went 6-6 last year, but they were one score away in three games from being 9-3. And even this year if they played Utah better they'd be 3-2 with a T25 win. So this "if they were better talk maybe they'd enclose the stadium" was nonsense. The stadium was designed that way for a reason.
@jamesfields2916
7 ай бұрын
@@ReinSouls I appreciate the guys effort with the videos but zero consistency. He likes Oklahoma State because it's one level then flags Ole Miss because it's one level. Ole Miss doesn't need an 80,000 seat stadium which would be the only reason to add a level.

I played my home games at Michie Stadium (MIKEY) and played games in four others. Falcon Stadium used to have natural grass and it was the most well kept field outside of a golf course. The surface was the best field that I ever experienced as a player. When we played Yale, we spent halftime inside one of the tunnels near the endzone, and if I remember the Yale team stayed in the opposite endzone. It was like a high school atmosphere and not much coaching could happen. It was so very cool to say that I played on the same field as the Four Horsemen, and other college legends. Incredible overall experience as a player, but having to share the restroom at halftime with fans was very odd.

The great thing about Air Force (5-0 right now) is that it is open and spacious, great place to take your young kid, because you can wander around WHILE WATCHING THE GAME. Plus the extras of flyovers, parachute teams, the half-time peregrine Falcon dive bombing the crowd, your kid can pet the falcons, or sit in an AF training glider and chat up a cadet or two. Food trucks IN the stadium, plus AF wins 75% of home games and has a “”small-town” feel to it, lots of military people so lots of “where were you deployed and teasing along Air Force/Army/Navy rivalry.
@area.man.

I go to at least one or two Air Force games a year when Colorado does not have a home game. I love the openness of it and the flyovers are unbeatable. My only gripe is that outside of the cadets the atmosphere is so tame. I don't think the west side of the stadium is allowed to cheer.

looking at Baylor, a ton of the texas teams left or tried to leave an endzone part of the stadium at least partly open. I'm pretty sure it's to let airflow in so the fans don't bake for the first half of the season. Even OkSt somewhat does it as well leaving the corners open by the building.

Definitely feel like the Ivy league colleges have the coolest stadiums in college football. Mostly because they were the first to have large stadiums built in the first half of the 1900s when architects were all about Roman style buildings. Dang I wouldn't have thought uofl would be at the top, im local to Louisville and have gone to games for years. You can also get tickets to most games pretty reasonable, but even when uofl was in talks for the national championship in mid 2000s they still didn't get alot of love from anyone, even when Lamar won the hiesman. But I do agree its a crazy atmosphere. Tailgating is pretty dang good to. They have alot of parking right next to the stadium and yea it is a really cool experience and I guess we take it for granted when everytime you drive downtown and thats just right there on the side of the interstate

It would be nice when McLane ever hosts a women’s soccer game, maybe it needs to not only widen the field to FIFA requirement, but also eventually, forced to tear down like in Seattle, recycle the rubble for even newer stadium, still with big college football experience and home field advantage, but to make better, a Japanese-designed wooden (see Kengo Kuma architecture) domed, maybe 61,845 seat, all seater, soccer specific stadium, to prepare for bid of Women’s World Cup, and moving some marquee events like all-University Sing inside, making it year-round venue to improve utilization.

Ya they went 6-6 last year, but they were one score away in three games from being 9-3. And even this year if they played Utah better they'd be 3-2 with a T25 win. So this "if they were better talk maybe they'd enclose the stadium" was nonsense. The stadium was designed that way for a reason.

I am an Army fan since 1957,saw General Dawkins play. I am a 10 year Army Vet who had the honor of training cadets at both Buckner and Natural Bridge in the 70's. Michie is the best,BEST! During Lacrosse season we tailgate at Lusk,on the rocks.Beat Navy!
Failed to mention that at Harvard Stadium you sit on the concrete risers - no seats or benches! Very cold in Winter. 😮 And it (or Yale Bowl?) has no locker room for either team.
Very nice list. I do like most of these stadiums because of their locations. Also, Louisville's stadium kind of reminds me of an NFL Stadium. Not surprising because the Yum Center is an NBA caliber arena.
0:26 - Yale 1:25 - Air Force 2:31 - Baylor 5:06 - Harvard 6:12 - App State 7:17 - Sun Bowl 8:46 - Ok State 10:18 - Cincinnati 11:24 - Army 12:15 - Louisville

The Yale bowl reminds of the stadium in Guadalajara Mexico where the Chivas play. It has the similar grass setting outside of the stadium.
Love App State! If you're the outdoorsy type, it's a neat school.
Love Appalachian Made the list and that you pronounced it correctly! Go Mountaineers!
Other stadiums I'd add to this list: - Maverik Stadium, Utah State - War Memorial Stadium, Wyoming - Albertsons Stadium, Boise State - Canvas Stadium, Colorado State - Mountain America Stadium, Arizona State - Martin Stadium, Washington State - Kinnick Stadium, Iowa - Huntington Bank Stadium, Minnesota - Rice-Eccles Stadium, Utah - Peden Stadium, Ohio - Husky Stadium, Washington - BB&T Stadium, Wake Forest
If you don't like that building in the end zone at Boone Pickens... I would LOVE to hear your opinion on La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.
Bill Snyder Family Stadium @ K-State. Great gameday atmosphere and not a bad seat in the house

Happy to see my Cards gettin some recognition. The entire stadium being seats instead of bleachers is so much more comfortable, too
The crazy thing about the Sun Bowl is the stadium it replaced still sits right next to it.
I'm surprised that you're surprised that McLane Stadium in Waco left one end zone open. They build this near the water, and they left the water side open for the view. Obviously, it was intentional.

Honestly no one calls it that here in Louisville. We always just say Cardinal stadium.
Fun fact: Yale Bowl, Harvard Stadium, and Nippert Stadium all hosted NFL games. And the Louisville stadium does look cool. It could host Cincinnati Bengal games if something happened to Paycor. Here at SIU Carbondale, we have one of the smallest stadiums there must be. But it's functional and could be expanded if the Salukis and the university got bigger.

The Eagles played at Penn's Franklin Field, the Steelers played at Pitt Stadium, the Seahawks played at Husky Stadium, the Saints played at Tulane Stadium, the Cardinals played at Sun Devil Stadium, the Vikings played at Vikings played at Huntington Bank Stadium, the Oliers played Jeppeson (U Houston), Rice, Liberty Bowl (U Memphis), & Vanderbilt Stadiums, the Patriots played at Boston U & Boston College stadiums, the Bears played at the Univ of Illinois. It hasn't been uncommon since college football existed long before the NFL & AFL.
I really like McLane Stadium. It's taken inspiration from European stadiums but not too much to copy them, keeping the North American horseshoe stadium shape. An actual fresh American style of stadium that isn't just dull grey concrete.
Nice choices. As an Okie, I am biased towards Boone Pickens in Stillwater, Ok... but I really like the lightning bolt pattern in the seats of Falcon Stadium for Air Force.
The building for Oklahoma State is the basketball arena. There are suites on top that are used for both football and basketball.
Roy Stewart Stadium, home of Murray State, is pretty interesting…huge seating on just one side of the field. They also have their first live mascot, a horse, buried on the grounds

Fun fact about Nippert Stadium: Before TQL Stadium was built, Nippert Stadium was also home of FC Cincinnati in MLS for its two years of existence. Then when it comes to Falcon Stadium it hosted an NHL Stadium Series in 2020 between the LA Kings & the Avalanche.

I go to at least one or two Air Force games a year when Colorado does not have a home game. I love the openness of it and the flyovers are unbeatable. My only gripe is that outside of the cadets the atmosphere is so tame. I don't think the west side of the stadium is allowed to cheer.
Cincy has had three unbeaten regular seasons since 2009.
The sun bowl also hosts UTEP games
4:20 they play 11 AM games because in order to build that stadium, Baylor had to purchase land off campus across the river in the hood on MLK Blvd... you don't want to be in that neighborhood at night.
California Memorial Stadium is a great stadium.

Was there in 1982 for the Arizona State game. Rain early in the day but by the time the game started the sun was popping out. Rays coming through the cloud openings lit up the best view you will ever see. The Golden Gate Bridge. Alcatraz and the San Francisco skyline were lit up by sunlight with the rain clouds still hanging up there.
I love App State! Best atmosphere for a football game! Been to stadiums like Notre Dame, South Carolina, Georgia, Wake Forest, UNC, and many others. App State is definitely the best! Super loud and super fun. Nice campus. I will be there for their sold out Tuesday night matchup with Coastal Carolina tomorrow night!
looking at Baylor, a ton of the texas teams left or tried to leave an endzone part of the stadium at least partly open. I'm pretty sure it's to let airflow in so the fans don't bake for the first half of the season. Even OkSt somewhat does it as well leaving the corners open by the building.

OSU (OKST) has one of the best stadiums in college football in my opinion, the building informs of it makes it even better and unique
Definitely feel like the Ivy league colleges have the coolest stadiums in college football. Mostly because they were the first to have large stadiums built in the first half of the 1900s when architects were all about Roman style buildings. My few favorite college football stadiums would have to be Pennsylvania (Penn) and the most iconic of all; The Coliseum in LA (USC)
“That building” when talking about Okst is Gallagher Iba Arena, definitely can’t just knock it down
University of Minnesota Hunnington Bank stadium is a great one too!
Jerry Richardson stadium, home of the Charlotte 49ers should be on the list, it is the smallest in FBS, but one of the nicest and we are in the process of expanding, it will be one of the best small stadiums in the country
Leaving the stadium open keeps the view and air in. Great idea by Baylor
Good List. Before Boone Pickens was renovated OSU's stadium looked like a giant high school stadium. Rising bleachers on each side. The building behind the endzone used to be the arena. Love the open endzones including Baylor's. Enjoyed your video
The "open end" at Baylor McLane Stadium has seats behind the end zone - it is visible in the picture you showed. They kept that end lower to have the river view. BTW: only college stadium you can take a ferry to the game... docks near the "open end".
Great vid. First time I've ever heard Yale pronounced as two syllables.
Leaving the open end zone at McLane stadium, allows for the amazing views of the river, so it was probably done to preserve the views
Always love going to games at Cardinal stadium. Hell, sometimes they host high school rivalry games here which is still a surprisingly good atmosphere.
“Add suites to the Yale bowl “ ??? No ! No ! ….some stadiums (more than one in this top 10) are perfect the way they are , C’ mon D.G. Stop shilling for the stadium building lobby 😆😜😳 P.S. you’re right , 2021 Sun Bowl kicked off @ 10a.m.
Great thing about Louisville is they have chairback seats like NFL stadiums, not bleacher seating
Baylor, and most of central Texas, gets average to above average rain compared to the entire US.
That "other building" at boone Pickens is Gallagher Iba Arena . The football & Basketball Stadiums fit together perfectly!
Should do a video on the newest ground up stadiums
That building in the end zone of Boone Pickens is a 100 year old basketball arena
Whats the problem with big noon? Im on the WestCoast so of course we're a few hours behind, so the start time to us could feel early but ive always been up early for CFB. If you're on EST you would pretty much be up for the game already. Daylight breaks around 6:30am-7:00am out here, where would it be dark at? Eastern states?
Gonna be at UW vs Oregon this weekend. Sailgating makes it soooooo much nicer.
I went to Baylor's OLD stadium several times to see OU play them. Three things: 1).It was a dump. 2.) IT was on the other side of town from their campus. 3) It was more like a big HS stadium. I never bought a ticket until an hour or so before the game and I was always asked, "Where would you like to sit?" lol The NEW stadium is very nice. And, it's right off of campus.

Good list but how could you leave out East Carolina
I've been going to OSU games since I was little. Now I live in the dorm across the street
I saw Colgate v. Army at Michie Stadium back in 1995. It is a gorgeous place to play but for game day experience it isn't the best. Parking and walking up all those hills to get to the stadium is a pain.

One of my buddies’ maps led him to a gate that civilians didn’t have access to, and everyone including him was very confused how he got there lol. I love West Point’s campus though. Highly recommend going up to Garrison by train because it pops up almost out of nowhere
The Sun Bowl was very cheap to build as they carved it out of a granite mountain outcrop and utilized the hacked out rock as building material.
The building in the east endzone of Boone Pickens Stadium is the basketball arena, "Gallagher-Iba Arena"

The thing I can’t understand is Who the Hell knew leaf changes could be so fascinating?? From NY Hudson Valley, we call that” Fall”
Had Harvard season tickets in early ‘70s….there actually was a major renovation…perhaps early ‘80s….there used to be a second level entryway, which you can see on the postcard…these were sealed off but the second level can be seen underneath the stadium….all the cement ‘seats’ were replaced as well….a big improvement but it’s still all cement seats….fairly uncomfortable….they also removed all the ivy, which eats away at cement….the roots are still visible…also impossible for crowds of any size to get there…buried in Cambridge from years ago…small streets…no parking…a hike to the T, which is a disaster itself…
I like the early games, I went to a USC game that started at 7:30 pm and didnt get home until 1 am with traffic. Id much rather wake up early on a Saturday.
The coldest game I've ever been to was the 1983 Sun Bowl. The wind whipping down was BRUTAL!
Texas State has a ridiculously underrated Stadium
It would be nice when McLane ever hosts a women’s soccer game, maybe it needs to not only widen the field to FIFA requirement, but also eventually, forced to tear down like in Seattle, recycle the rubble for even newer stadium, still with big college football experience and home field advantage, but to make better, a Japanese-designed wooden (see Kengo Kuma architecture) domed, maybe 61,845 seat, all seater, soccer specific stadium, to prepare for bid of Women’s World Cup, and moving some marquee events like all-University Sing inside, making it year-round venue to improve utilization.

It’s ironic you have Baylor’s new stadium and the Sun Bowl on this list. Baylor’s old stadium Floyd Casey Stadium is a carbon copy of the Sun Bowl minus the rocky hillside.
Strange enough the other closest stadium to my house was Michie Stadium. Lived 30 minutes away. Very similar to where I went to college, App State. In fact, can anyone tell them apart?? Only the Hudson breaks it up. Same mountain range though
As a diehard Louisville fan. I was totally surprised by your list.
The Yale Bowl isn't truly built into the ground. The field is slightly below ground level and the excavated dirt was piled around the perimeter to create a mound, so it's half & half. It has great sight lines, but no facilities inside the stadium. Harvard has no seats or benches, you sit on concrete.
Folsom field in boulder, got to be up there

the stadium in the thumbnail is pretty cool
If it's on everyone's list of underrated stadiums, then it's not underrated.
The only problem with Harvard Stadium are the stairways. They are very steep and I have seen someone take a header because of it.

I love Nippert Stadium.
McLane stadium looks awesome but one of the pics shows a crowd of people looking for shade under the bridge. I'm assuming it was hot as hell that day and there's no shade?
