Great feedback!
The two of you compliment one another well with your different perspectives. This is very helpful, especially when describing the merits of a kayak as related to the size of the paddler. Which brings me to my question for the next episode. I am guessing the Liquid Logic Kaiwah will be one of the recreation kayak recommendations but it does not have enough capacity for a XL paddler in the 275 lb range. If possible, please include a great paddling sit-on-top kayak for us larger paddlers even if the recommendation is marketed as a fishing kayak.

Absolutely on both! Thanks for feedback!
After talking with Greg B. (who talked me into my first Titan), I think I'm sold on the Titan X series. I've tried other "Name" brands of ';Yaks, and they (like you said) have their Pro's and Con's. Thing is: they drained my lake I fish and live on, so I'm going to be "Hard-Pressed" to justify buying an Upgrade to my "fleet" of kayaks (already have 4). You sure do give people a LOT of information to digest on here, as well as a Lot of choices (as everyone IS a little different than the next person!), and that makes your channel quite Unique! Keep up the Good Work, as we all can learn from other's expertise.

There’s a new Big Rig FD :)
If your ocean fishing especially off the coast of Northern California I would say hobie outback over pro angler. I have seen many people flip their pro anglers and loose all their gear. You get a fish on and a swell hits you at just the right angle while you’re leaning and it flips quick. Coming in through the surf can cause problems as well. The outback is lower center of gravity and you ride the swells a lot easier.

Cmon down! Hard for me ro get out during the season sometimes. Gets busy in spring and summer
What I found out about the Pro Angler is it’s great if you stand in the middle and lean. As soon as you stand to the side though it’s game on - and once it gets to its tipping point there is no going back. Experienced users who realize this will likely never flip.

I was used to standing anywhere I wanted to on my Titan, but when I took a friend's PA 12 out, I nearly flipped it...! Like you said: There's a "Sweet-Spot" on the Hobie 'Yaks, and it's right in the Middle! Lol
@shred5

@@MSmith-jf5woIt really is, I hit the tipping going walking out on a dock on a demo as I put my foot a little too close to the side - got out in the knick of time if I took another half of a second, it was going over. Ultimately, I decided to go with the Bigwater. Faster, lighter, more cost friendly and reliable. I have bad balance so I stand in that center spot regardless and I did fine in the demo in some decent current.
My first yak was the Feel Free Lure. Kinda surprised its not on the list cause thats why I bought it was the stability. The pontoon style hull design on the Lure made it super stable. In the 6 years I owned it I never flipped it. Literally just bought a TitanX a couple days ago. Haven't got it on the water yet, but from everything I've heard, it deserves the #1 spot.

I am struggling between the pa14 and the titan x 12.5. I like the stability of the Titan X, but I like the kick up fins of the Hobie as I plan to navigate some rivers with downed logs etc. The give and takes are what makes it tough.
@thebeardedpaddler

I would suggest the PA if you are going to be navigating hazards. Kickup fins is a big benefit. If you want an alternate, check out the Coosa FD. The Jackson pedal drive can kickup and still function

Great video, if you had to rank them stability to price what would be your top pick? Iam leaning towards the outlaw right now for price, stability and features. One of the big ones for me its the cutout up front for a side scan transducer. The titan x 12.5 is at the top of my dream list! But i suspect it wouldnt be good for my shallow limestone river bottom. At some point i need a lake kayak and a river one lol. I have crown royal taste on a generic beer budget haha!

I just bought a Nucanoe Unlimited last week. I think they’ve hit the perfect balance of stability, weight, portability and price. I looked at the Big Rig and Titan but the weight and lack of portability for that price killed it for me. Add the trailer and you’re around $5,000 all in. At that point, I think there are better alternatives.

Outlaw will be more stable but considerably slower to paddle. The Coosa HD is a bit faster and better suited for rivers. Really depends on your needs.

Love the channel, and thanks for all the info. I have been researching for quite a while, and I am currently looking at the Recon 120 HD or the Old Town PDL 120. Is there an appreciable difference between the two as far as quality or reliability goes? The swivel seat on the Recon HD has me slightly favoring it.
@thebeardedpaddler
2 күн бұрын
The pedal drive itself is the biggest difference and it's not even close. The Old Town pedal drive is the most reliable on the market. Swivel seats are nice, but I feel people don't use them as much as they thought they were going to. Demo if possible, I think you will end up preferring the Sportsman 120
@JamieOverTheHill
Күн бұрын
@thebeardedpaddler Gotcha. The Oldtown is definitely stretching my budget, but I'll look into them and see if I can demo. The Jackson bite is another one I recently discovered and might try to demo. Are you familiar with the Lightning Nomad? They seem to resemble the older Hobie's, but information is sparse about them.
Very curious, as im looking at purchasing the Titan X 10.5 later this year. How would you stack that up against the other kayaks for stability? Would it be slightly less stable than the 12.5 but how much different in comparison?

how does the titan x handle in big water or rough conditions compared to say the old town big water 132
@thebeardedpaddler

2 very different kayaks. The Bigwater is a much better Paddler obviously. The Titan X is built more for comfort and stability. Strangely enough, the Titan X does have a tighter turn radius which shocked me. The BigWater will have better speed and will obviously be lighter. Titan x is perfect for someone who wants to rig the kayak out and the swivel seat is a huge leap forward for Native
What you think about stability of pa12 vs ps14 ? Thank you

14 will be better but it's simply because it has more volume. The 12 will be more nimble but with considerably less storage. Hope this helps!
