You had three pass plays in reverse order here. First came Emanuel, who had an actual catch ruled incomplete because the ball touched the ground at all. That led to the "Bert Emanuel rule," that the ball now *could* touch the ground, as long as it didn't move in the receiver's hands. That led to the "Calvin Johnson rule"--not a change, but a surprising emphasis on just how long the receiver had to maintain control. (Basically, don't let go until you're standing back up and spiking it.) Then, a few years later, what should have been a much less controversial and straightforward application of the same rule--Dez Bryant leaped in the air, fell to the ground, and the impact jarred the ball loose (there's even a still of that exact moment at 6:17 in this video). Incomplete pass, and to this day it boggles the mind that particular play is so controversial--especially given how the Cowboys had no business even playing in that game, after the referees blatantly screwed over the Lions against Dallas the week before.

You can talk about the scab refs blowing the call in Seattle all you want but the REAL refs aren't any better. This is the BEST evidence I have to support that... Enter Robey-Coleman's BLATANT pass interference non call against Johnny Lee Lewis in New Orleans, screwing the Saints and Drew Brees out of a 2nd SB ring. And I'm absolutely confident that the Saints would have won the SB that year if just ONE of the refs would've thrown a flag and seen what every other person in America saw... A penalty that a blind dead person who knows nothing about football could've made. The scab refs only messed things up for 5 weeks. The real refs have been screwing things up and screwing teams since the 1st game of football took place

The scab refs not only made wrong calls all the time, they slowed down games because they took forever to make decisions. The real refs make the rights calls 90% of the time. They have made some egregious mistakes but usually they are right.
