i LOVE house of wax! Paris hilton did decent in it and she SOLD t’f outta it like i mean she sold shirts or something like that saying “ come watch me die”. Her chase scene was my favorite & her death scene was my favorite! It’s a “ guilty pleasure” of mine but i don’t feel guilty at all for liking it. It’s a good horror film to me in my opinion like sorority row it’s a entertaining film and enjoyable.
@serenacelestine

It’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures too. tbh I’d say it’s a genuinely good horror film in the same sense that I Know What You Did Last Summer is a genuinely good horror film. I think films like that tend to get a bad rap for no other reason than they were released in an era when horror was typically a little cheesy; but slashers have always had an element of camp to them.

Yeah, her and her team really did a great job capitalizing off of the hate she was getting at the time and tying it in with this movie and her death scene in particular. I remember a lot of the marketing did say “come watch Paris die!!” Or something like that. I also loooove this movie and watch it every fall/Halloween season and remember going to the theaters to see it when it came out. I’d consider it a guilty pleasure too but Idgaf and I don’t feel guilty 😂😂

Yep. Fun stuff, for sure. And I agree with the people in this thread: That era in horror films definitely gets a bad rap. A LOT of really fun, entertaining films came out then. Heck, if you extend back just a little to the mid-90s, you've got films like "Scream" that came out then! :)

The main issue with Quarantine (other than it being made just because American can't either read subs or have decent dubbing like the rest of us) is that the studio tried to pass it off as original, even keeping the original from US distribution until way after their version (which I found severely lacking compared to the original, especially in the final twist) was released. Also, what was with their idea of putting the final shot on most promotional material? I wasn't a fan of Dawn, TCM and Last House remakes either, as they felt more commercial and 'sanitized', if that makes sense. I liked Amityville a bit better than the original (even if the house is completely WRONG), The Crazies was awesome, and I have yet to see Child's Play and The Invisible Man. The Friday 'remake' (which feels more like a new sequel) was pretty cool.
2005 Amityville adds a wet, shirtless Ryan Reynolds. What more could you want? LOL 🤣

I’d argue that the House of Wax remake is a legitimately good horror film and better than your average guilty pleasure film. I remember being surprised by Paris Hilton’s acting and actually rooting for her character in the garage sequence, too.
1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a good one. Fun fact: in an episode of Supernatural, Jared Padalecki, who was also in House of Wax, decapitates Paris Hilton.
@jakealter5504

House of Wax was the movie that started it all! I was definitely in middle school when I watched it for the first time and I fell in LOVE with Chad Michael Murray. H.O.W started my horror movie obsession AND led me to One Tree Hill. Also I loved Paris and thought she was great. It was just trendy to hate on her because... misogyny.

-My issue with the Child's Play remake was the design of the doll, I just thought he looked super goofy. I think the really bright empty eyes on the original made it just uncanny enough for me to find some kind of unease in its design, but I prefer torn up Chucky anyway lmao. -oh yeah the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is really good, I just wish that the house had that same creepy vibe it did in the original. Like the bones everywhere, the creepy dinner scene? Like everything about the house was so much more unsettling. That was the only thing I missed. I just thought the house in the original was so fucking creepy.

I love the remake of "The Omen," and it was so beautifully shot. In the original, I didn't buy that the little boy was evil because the only evidence that he was evil was everyone else's reactions to him rather than anything he actually did. In the remake, it's a bit more clear exactly what he is. Julia Stiles in that red dress was amazing . . .

@@moor1719 Do, I was sad it got cancelled. It's very interesting watching how and why people purge the way they do and how people respond after purge night with the trauma etc, you also get to see crimes other than just murder, the second season is about a bank heist, the banks basically leave a little bit of money for the purgers but most of it is flown around in a plane all night and you watch them figure out how to get the money.

The original Dawn of the Dead is not a good movie at all. It has awful music and even worse special effects. I couldn’t believe how bad it was when I watched it and how much better the 2004 remake was. People say they like it simply out of respect for the culture, similar to the way you can’t talk smack about Tupac if you’re a rapper.
I loved the new Child's Play. I kept waiting for Chucky to do a corny catch phrase in Mark Hamil's Joker voice but was pleasantly surprised when they went in a different direction.

the thing and when a stranger calls take the cake for best remake for me
The Skeleton Key is my favorite comfort movie, even though it wasn't a remake.
"Last house on the left" in itself is a remake / took inspiration from Ingmar Bergman's "The virgin spring" (1960). The movie is not horror per se but it´s both disturbing and deeply beautiful. I watched "Last house on the left" on the tv and the r*pe scene upsetted me so much that I wanted to get up from the couch and leave but I ended up almost falling because that scene made my blood pressure go down and I couldn´t use my legs. I later discovered that I can´t stomach any kind of s*xual viol*nce on screen.
Sority Row is SO fun. Quarantine is wonderful too, Jennifer Carpenter kills it 100%
House of Wax is so underrated and I don't know why
