I think your point about Suga not asking intrusive questions is so important. Almost all of his guests told personal and vulnerable stories, in part because he gave them the opening, but never, ever pushed. They saw his willingness to be vulnerable himself, and felt that he was treating them respectfully, so they opened up about so much more than they would have in response to nosy questions. That whole dynamic reminds me of interviews with several people about BTS's trainee and debut eras -- e.g. former BigHit trainees who quit, the lady who ran the restaurant near their practice rooms, the OG BigHit staff, other celebrities. So many of those people mention that RM, Suga, and J-hope created and insisted on a good atmosphere in the dorms, in the practice rooms, etc. The rapline just has this bedrock kindness that became the basis of BTS. The other four members were drawn to that and matched it. Suga's way of expressing that kindness may be the most compelling in the entire group, because like Bang Shiyuk says, Yoongi has this dark, angry streak, but BangPD was confident from the beginning Suga could write about that and make art from it without ever *acting* on it. There's something so calming and reassuring about that. Suga's not going to judge you for dark times, or for failures. He's only going to try to cheer you into a better future. Anyway -- I'm just blabbing because I love all seven guys so much and Suchwita was lovely.

I am not denying that some music journalists are very good, but nothing beats an artist interviewing another artist. The understanding is more intimate, the analysis is fueled by shared experience. It is a different approach to interviewing because it rests on connection. And it is wonderful to the audience because it is still quite rare.

The interviews are relatable, charming, humble, kind, educational and heartwarming, showcasing authentic human interactions. Good guys don’t finish last, they are simply running a different race.

I married at 19 to a very handsome man who attracted people. Many women came onto him for his looks, even right in front of me. Many guys hero worshipped him because he was a small town football hero. After 17+ years of marriage, we divorced. So it was only in my late 30’s and early 40’s that I discovered that I, too, have my own charisma (however limited). That was a big revelation to me. I don’t know if I was living an alter ego then, but I really didn’t know myself till after my divorce. I was basically living my husband’s life, and as I looked around, I noticed this is all too common in marriages, especially those who marry young. Don’t hide your own light - that’s the takeaway here. I’ve enjoyed Suga’s show for his insights and his thoughtful questions. He really is good at what he does and he is fortunate to find himself at an earlier age than I did.

Suga is a master musician, and also a musical genius as proclaimed by Steve Aoki, Eminem, and many musicians you wouldn't recognize here. I love to listen to Suga talk music with his guests. I'm a huge fan of your channel. thanks for all you do for BTS and ARMY! 💜

I guess Suga is practicing the Jungian concept of human development. He created an alter ego (persona) to cope with his anger self. Then accepted that dark self is also him (shadow). He then evolved as an artist that is no longer mad (unbothered) and is (a) calm and happy (kitty) now. His past struggles made him stronger and (I think) he's in the quest of discovering more about himself and his artistry (Ego).

At age 71, I can confirm being different in various situations, but the alter-ego thing was experienced in my teenage years... as I believe it is with most people. The struggle to be seen and liked causes us to take on a personality that is unlikely to be our true selves. We may not even know what our true self is until later. Consider JK who took various parts of his team members to craft himself during his teen years. As my life went forward I endured negative-laden parents and a narcissistic husband. During that period, I was in survival mode at home and still knew nothing of my true self. Not an alter ego exactly but surely not the person I found later in life. Once I found my true self, life has never been more comfortable and joyous. My advice (which is easier to do in this century) is to w.a.l.k away from those that put you into victim/survival mode. Do it as quickly and definitively as possible! Borahae

Agreed. I'm 70, and I think it has finally become natural to default to my true self in just about any situation. Most of my doubt was self generated, but you can outgrow caring so much what others think.

I'm 40 and I created an alter ego 10 years ago as a writter/poet. Even if I'm nearly the same, my alter ego is more succesful and has more friends, so I'm not ready to let it go. But the fun fact is that since I have this alter ego, I'm the same everywhere and with everyone whereas before I behaved differently depending on the situation. Yoongi is such a great interviewer, his generosity, his empathy, his listening and his wisdom make him a perfect catalyser for the comfort and opening of the guest.

Great video! I have really enjoyed getting to know Suga so to speak through Suchwita…he’s a deep and introspective soul. I’m doing a complete rewatch and finding things I missed the first time. I feel everyone anxiously awaits Season 2!

Always respect & am grateful for the way you are able to frame BTS, their impact and journey, not only on a more academic level but I truly appreciate how insightful your perspective is because often as fans, we can fail to find the words to fully convey what their music and how the members have come to mean to us, but we may also not always be able to explain the global, economic and cultural impact while providing why BTS not only should be respected they deserve that respect. I also love that I can clearly see & feel how much you are also Army because only Army would know the importance of these small gestures between the members or know the important details of the BTS, individual members, HYBE, TXT, etc. timeline so thank you for not only doing this work, but for sharing it with us & the world. Oh, you asked about alter egos & other questions at the beginning, for the first time, think at start or during COVID, there was a project asking Army to share how BTS has impacted & meant to them, I hate texting, typing as it’s very hard for me (explain in a bit) but I spent all night and was rereading it and was surprised at how sad my life seemed on paper because of trauma, loss that have surrounded me, especially when I, myself, am at peace, happy and am grateful I had the chance to live a good life & achieve things most are not able to experience where I am from, especially since my life dramatically changed 20 years ago when I became sick with 2 chronic autoimmune illnesses & all their friends, have had cancer 2x since and truthfully maybe my body should have failed long ago. Still, I had not realized how much I had accepted as my new norm, despite being at peace & happy, as my world shrunk to now being mostly in bed & rarely even leaving my room, until BTS brought so much laughter, happy tears, some sadness but most of all the brought life & the world back to me so I love these 7 men so much & 100% will be Army for the rest of my life. So Suga, and all the members, resonate with me, especially as a mother because I have found that by having sincere & honest conversations not just about the happy things, but topics some may shy away from as a parent, and being a listener, respecting their & others journeys, I have better friend, sister, aunt & have better prepared my children to not just handle their own hardships, but overcome them. So I feel this is also what Suga is doing through his music, Suchitwa and as a person because like him, I am not an extrovert, but have held many leadership roles and I sincerely want others to succeed, not just achieving their dreams but to also find happiness, balance as people. I once shared with my son, when I was younger, I would almost be sorry for people I met who were very bubbly, too innocent or maybe naive because I thought, oh, the world is going to eat them up, but now (I’ll be 51 soon), I know those people are few & far between and maybe we should help protect them or prevent life’s pain from turning hurt into darker things like hate or losing them to addiction, just all those things along those lines because I believe we are born with good hearts and we should help to make those hearts bloom, along with our own. 💜🫶🏼💜

I think most of us present selective sides of our personalities in front of others. When w our friends if they don’t mind swearing we are more apt to swear but around our grandparents who would be offended, we don’t swear….out of respect to them. At least that is my experience.

I believe everyone has different faces/egos for different situations as a way to be acceptable to the people around you in any given situation. However, as one ages, it's easier to show you real self because the people who matter in one's life appreciate an authentic person. With that said, most people never expose themselves to the core. That's just my opinion.

I think we all have multiple facets-- even the way we present ourselves professionally vs. the way we are with friends and family is bound to be different. One of the struggles of adult children is in relating to a parent that continues to see you in a way that you may feel you've outgrown. And I'd say the feeling of anonymity on the internet has definitely enabled the creation of alter egos. I feel like Agust D was definitely more than just a "facet," though. He had his own mannerisms and backstory. I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched Amygdala, trying to parse the different Yoongis... there are at LEAST four of them in there, possibly five.

I used to think that Yoongi was such a quiet, shy person who would use music to come out of his shell so I thought he would be the last member to ever do a talk show. Yet he's so in his element on Suchwita. These aren't guests that the company is pushing onto him. It's only people he genuinely has an interest in chatting with. People whose work he respects and values. Or people he's simply curious about. And of course the BTS members who he wants to support and show off to the world because he's so proud of them all. He displayed so much warmth and care for them in this series and the love for his brothers practically pour out of him even when it's not their episode. No one would doubt that he'd give his all for them and that kind of person is easy to trust and open up to.

Thanks again for insightful content. Alter ego - I guess i have always had one but never thought of it that way. I have always tended to keep my work, social, and art lives separate. I can be a different 'me' in each of my worlds. As I have gotten older, my worlds have merged somewhat.

Ive many alter egos tbh since i was 14 yo. That gave me hope, inner peace and motivation

I do enjoy artist on artist, basketball player on basketball player interviews, but I am also recognizing that they are not journalists - who presumably serve the public interest first (beyond fans). What this means is that artists understandably only support the interviewees (each other). And thus, these interviews are exercises in public relations. They serve each others' interests more than anyone else's. Nothing intrinsically wrong about this. We just need to know it for what it is.
