10 minute Bible study + journaling for anxiety 🙏🏻

I hope you enjoyed this 10 minute Bible study, meditation, and journaling for anxiety! We studied through the Psalms today, which is actually amazing to look at when dealing with anxiety. I hope that you are able to do this for your quiet time someday this week and that you refer back to it when you have to. Don't forget to take a look at our Psalms Devotional on our website! We also have two other new products to check out as well (Updated Planner and Mini Leather Notebooks).

I feel led to share that anxiety can be caused by a dysregulated nervous system. A little over a year ago I started dealing with horrible anxiety after an early miscarriage. I tried to work on my mind. Praying. Reading my Bible. Etc. And while it was good to do those things, I initially saw no change in the anxiety, but through prayer, the Lord led me to information about the nervous system. I realized what was happening was my body was getting stuck in fight/flight mode. And since my body was convinced that there was a threat, my mind became overactive trying to discern what the danger was. This led to intense feelings of anxiety and a sense of impending doom/dread. I have seem huge improvements since focusing on regulating my nervous system. And praying and reading my Bible are still the top of my list. But I have added going on long walks, laying under a weighted blanket, listening to binaural beats which can calm the nervous system, getting massages, cold therapy, eating better etc. And because I sought the Lord so intensely through this horrible horrible season, I have seen so much spiritual growth. My prayer life is completely different. I have learned to rely on and trust the Lord deeper than before. He is so faithful. This has also given me so much gratitude for the days when I feel good and don't have any anxiety. I used to take them for granted, but now I thank the Lord for every reprieve. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I truly hope it will. Feel free to ask me any questions if you think this may be your issue and want more detailed information on what I am doing specifically. I can say I was having multiple panic attacks a week and now I havent had one in several months. I am doing so much better, and when I backslide now I know what to do to get out of fight/flight mode. Praise the Lord for helping me and guiding me to figure this out. Edited to add: I recently started increasing my protein and have seen even more improvements! My anxiety is almost non-existent now. I am so so thankful! I realized I was probably getting less than 30g of protein a day most days. Now I shoot for 82g. I feel so much better!

@@Always.Rejoice For me, I paid attention to things that made it worse. For me, too much time on my phone/technology made it worse. So I limited it a lot. Going on long brisk walks could sometimes help burn off the excess stress hormones. I also limit caffeine and take I take a B12 supplement every day. I also did research into the vagus nerve. After I take a shower, I stand under ice cold water for a minute or two. This can help your vagus nerve function better. The vagus nerve controls your body switching between the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze) and the parasympathetic (rest/digest). I also listen to binaural beats. You can find them online. It basically plays music at slightly different hz in each ear... you have to wear headphones. It can help your brain. I choose ones known for relaxation. While I listen I get under a weighted blanket and take deep belly breaths. There is also a trick that triggers your body to switch to the parasympathetic nervous system. You lay down and fold your hands behind the base of your skull. With your head looking straight up at the ceiling you then shift your eyes and look towards the right corner of your eye. You stay there while breathing deeply until you either yawn, sigh, or do a deep swallow. I also lay on an acupressure mat. It seems to signal to my nervous system to relax. All of these are tools I use when I feel my body switch into that fight/flight mode and I get that horrible anxious feeling in my stomach. I also make sure to eat lighter because when your body is in fight/flight mode your digestion process slows way down. And I also use some of them like the long walks and cold showers even when I'm not actively feeling anxious. And of course I always always pray and read my Bible and seek the Lord for guidance. He was the one who made me see that it was a physical problem and not a mental one. It has taken some time, but I'm doing much much better. I went a whole month without feeling anxious. I did spend too much time on my phone last weekend and I did have a few days of anxiety. I tried to ignore it at first, but it kept increasing, so I got under a weighted blanket, turned on binaural beats, and did the trick where you look out the corner of your eye. And suddenly I started yawning like crazy and felt myself calm down. And I feel better now. I truly hope this helps you and if you don't understand something, please feel free to ask.

@@leisly0631 I left a super long detailed comment, so if you scroll up that gives a lot more information about what I have done to help my nervous system. And I encourage you to do your own research on dysregulated nervous systems to see if it sounds like what you're experiencing.

I have the same story! I had no idea where the anxiety came from! I ended up going to a chiropractor and they found I had adrenal fatigue in my low back. First month of adjustments I began having panic attacks and 1 led me to the emergency room. The chiro had said this is from so much built up trauma toxins being released all at once. I trusted the process and kept going. After month 3 I had NO anxiety. Could drink 2 cups of coffee and day for casual fun with no fear of an anxiety attack. I prayed for so long and the lord led me to this conclusion and I am FREE

Wow the phrase “ever present” really stuck with me.. The thought that the God of the Universe is ever present with me in all my trials and troubles… that He cares that much for me a sinner? It blows my mind. Thank you for this. I will continue to meditate on this revelation when I go through my ups and downs in life.

Hi Taylor, may the Lord bless you from Santo Domingo, Dominicn Republic! This is one of my favorite Psalms because I have learned to deal with anxiety every time I talk to God and He's like, Be still and know thatt I'm God! He's our Sovereign God who controls our lives. Thanks for sharing this Bible study!

Thank you for this Bible study! It came at the right time - during a time of uncertainty and waiting. Verses 4-7 spoke to me. Just like the city of God, He is always within us because we're temples of the Holy Spirit. He will always be strong for us in the trials of life though we feel weak. 🙏
