Agreed! In elementary school my best friend and I would watch this right after school. Great memories

Fortunately the writers retake the concept of people not fully trusting Superman and remade it into the Cadmus arc of JLU. That arc brilliant in every aspect.

Truly enjoyed the villains in this show (luthor, brainiac, darkseid, sinestro)

Dan Turpin's funeral originally had several of Jack Kirby created characters, including Marvel characters like Nick Fury and the Fantastic Four but they weren't in costume. They later edited the Marvel characters out because they were afraid of getting sued. There were some other things the show couldn't do because they were vetoed by DC Comics. For example, they couldn't use Hal Jordan because Raynor was the comic Green Lantern at the time. So they kind of just gave Hal's origin to Raynor. I believe they also wanted to do more episodes with Aquaman, which was vetoed too.

Fun fact: Watchtower Database found actual new facts when they made their STAS retrospective over a year ago. One was which was the concept ideas Timm and Dini and the other writers had for a Superman show, including a proto-Justice League with Impulse and a female Cyborg.

As far as watching the entire DCAU, I've only seen the entirety of Superman The Animated Series, a few episodes of Batman and Static Shock and one episode of JLU. That one episode was For The Man Who Has Everything. I thought it was genius that they made Clark's perfect wife a mashup of Lois Lane and Lana Lang. They made her look like a mashup, which is something I can't see done well in live action!

JLU also boasts Amanda Waller as played by CCH Pounder, which absolutely defined her as a character, selling all of the menace, moral ambiguity, and determination to get results at any cost that we've associated with her ever since. And the funniest thing about it is, Pounder apparently could've done it in her sleep. I saw an interview once with someone (possibly Timm?) where they talked about directing her performances as Waller. From what they said, CCH Pounder would breeze into the recording studio, get handed a script (which she was seeing for the first time), spend a few minutes flipping through it to get some context, and then she'd just walk into the booth and absolutely Nail. Every. Take! Just one of those perfect storms of actor and role.

Still say my favorite couple came out of Justice League, Batman and Wonderwoman. Just seemed so great. Though I also do love the Star Wars Dynamic from original where WW didn't have to get with either and they basically became family.

I bet Zod was being held by the studio for the planned Superman movie with Nick Cage! They probably wanted to use him as the villain for that movie and didn't want to 'confuse audience' or some stuff. It's probably similar to the Bat Embargo.

For what it's worth, Jax-Surr was voiced by Ron Perlman.

I thought this was supposed to be mind-blowing facts we *didn't* know about '90s Superman. But most of these were known by pretty much everyone who watched the show. I especially laughed when you got to the "Superman was weaker" part of the video. I was like, "Well, DUHHHH! *EVERYONE* knows about *THAT!* In fact, you can almost make a drinking game out of binge-watching the series and takes a shot every time Superman screams in agony for some reason. Which he does A LOT! Like, you *never* hear *Kevin Conroy's Batman* screaming, and he's not even invulnerable!

Isn't this a reupload? I remember watching this video a long time ago on your channel. Anyway, I like Superman: The Animated Series. It is my favorite Superman show and my second favorite DC Animated Series behind Batman: The Animated Series/The New Batman Adventures. My favorite episodes of the show and the DCAU overall is "World's Finest."

I really only liked the Supergirl version. Still annoyed I didn’t realize they were killing her when they clearly making her the main character of the episode.

Just had a conversation about this at work Saturday. I fell in love with Dr Fate, Supergirl, Metallo, Steel, Volcana, Dan Turpin, Maxima, Lobo, Kyle Rayner, and Darkseid because of this show as a kid and we don't get the standard of the justice league DCAU run that was the blueprint that in my opinion created the MCU of today without this show. And worlds finest is one of the greatest multi parters of any fantasy/superhero property ever!!! Love you Tim Daly, The goat Kevin Conroy, Diane Lane who also played Martha Kent in the DCEU, Clancy, Malcolm McDowell, Ron Pearlman, Robert Hays, Ed Asner, Lori Petty, Michael ironside, Micheal Dorn, Cory Burton etc and that amazing producing staff of Team Bruce Timm 🙏

Captain Marvel is also no longer known as Shazam in the new Shazam series written by Mark Waid he is now simply known as The Captain & is again in his classic costume

Fun fact in the first airing of the Dan funeral episode, the camera pans to the crowd there's people in the background if you look closely resemble some of Kirbys work from Marvel also paying respect. From Steve Rogers and Tony Stark to the Fantastic four. They're obviously not in costume, but looking at the designs and looks you can tell who they're referencing. Reruns of the episode though replace them with generic people.

great show

I always felt Superman series was somewhat of a long and established origin story. The Batman and Superman team up movie would serve as the bridge to both Justice League shows. Lastly, Batman Beyond would more or less serve as the DCAU conclusion to BTAS, STAS, and both JL series. Not wanting to get side tracked, but that justice league episode where Terry finds out he's a biological son/clone of Batman from Amanda Waller, I truly wish we had a movie or small series of that future. I like the new take of Batman Beyond in the newest comics, but nothing can beat a classic.

also Turpin's female Partner detective is a lesbian, they ddin't out right say it but I believe Bruce Timm said so on a panel where you can see her in the hospital and another woman is there to visit her. very subtle

no, he was created by Kirby as one of his Boy Commandos over 30 years before…his original name was Brooklyn, he got aged since New Gods took place on Earth 1

@@hiramdoup524 his early DC work git overlooked due to Marvel marketing and DC’s use of the New Gods in everything in the 80s/90s but his work was a huge hit- the #3 seller for DC for years before he left

If FF gs in the show isn't #1, then something wrong

I loved Live Wire *because* she was that asshole and she was proof that some people will hate you no matter what. Also "lightning in a bottle", nice joke there.

Harley Quinn was popular because she was funny, sympathetic, and likable. Live Wire was just an entitled selfish (b-word) who wasn't even remotely likable and sympathetic. I myself hated her guts (if that makes me a misogynist so be it), and never cared to see her in any DCAU episodes. Don't know which side she ended up on with the Legion of Doom mutiny, but I like to imagine she was one of the mutineers Lex Luthor chucked out the airlock! Harley otoh added to every episode she was a part of. Sooooo... yeah, big differences between them.
