10 KNITTING PATTERNS TO USE UP YOUR MINI SKEINS!

Welcome to the Wool Needles Hands Knitting Midweek Ramble, a new video format I'm introducing to the channel. It's a place for me to ramble about other knitting//fiber//craft-related topics that just don't make it onto the podcast episodes (usually for the sake of brevity).

For the Anesidora shawl she gives four yarn options with weights (grams needed per skein)!😍 1) scrappy 2) semi scrappy 3) two colors 4) combo (sample shown) 12-24 mini’s. The pattern is beautifully written for each option. Yay for no weaving in ends!!!!!🥳

Hello Taylor. I’m so new to knitting but was inspired by KnittyNatty. I just needed more yarn/knit chat and found you last night. I think I watched 4 vlogs in one sitting while working on my very first knit project-a washcloth with a needle definitely 4 sizes too big haha. I jumped on Ravelry after a couple of your ideas videos and now I have so many great easy project patterns that look doable for my rookie status. I quickly became a huge fan of yours and will continue on and look forward to new videos. You’re turning this crochet girl into a bonafide knitting fanatic.

I think several of Stephen West’s “painting” and “honeycomb” patterns could work well for stash-busting. On Ravelry he has Painting Bricks shawl, socks, mittens, hat, sweater, blanket; Painting Honeycomb shawl, blanket, sweater, jacket; Painting Waves shawl; and more. Search for “Stephen West” and “painting” to find all of these.

Ooh, great ideas here! I have more worsted weight than fingering/sock yarn scraps. Baby knits use smaller amounts of yarn and can still help bust stash. I have been wanting to make a pom-pom wreath for a long time out of some inherited yarn that I would normally not buy, but can still be useful.

Great episode Tayler, as usual ! I love to use my ton of scraps to make the Granny Shawl by Charlene Van den Brande (available on Ravelry). Three good reasons for that : it's free - no ends to weave in, just fringes - you start at the top and you decrease on every row, which is my favorite method for a shawl.

For me, it’s Selbu mittens. Super pretty, takes not a lot of yarn. Generally though? I let my scraps and minis back up a while before I set them up in pairs/trios and make something with a bunch of simple color work stripes. Usually a cowl or something else simple that I don’t need to worry about floats on.

I don't have pattern suggestions, but I find I really like to use scraps with brioche stitch, striped in half fisherman's rib, or other textured stitches like slipped stitches. My personal taste, but I find that textured stitches can pull the colors into conversation with each other rather than blending like with a marl. To each their own! I love scrappy projects!

Brilliant ideas, Tayler! Late summer of this year is when I became a little comfortable with my knitting. I've been knitting (then frogging) a lot of raglan pullovers. I don't feel bad though. I would like to think that I've been practicing my knitting skill. Haha... Time to get a journal and start making plans for next year (which is just around the corner). 🙂 Thank you for sharing! Have a wonderful evening.

I really enjoyed this. I’m going to head of]ver to your page to check out the rest. I’m hoping to find more for thicker yarns. I have a lot of worsted and bulky weight yarns. Maybe I will knit or crochet a throw.

I love the idea that you’re using marled yarn ideas I am a big fan of indie dyeing marled wool. But when I’m using fingerling yarn to make socks I usually have to buy three balls of sock yarn and even then sometimes it’s not enough yarn so I go back and add a carrier yarn so that I can go up a needle size and not have loose fluffy socks. You mentioned two strands of fingerling yarn will make a worsted weight if you can use many different yarn weights by making a small sample I’m sorry but I am a sample freak and that’s what I usually use my leftover yarns on is making sample swatches. I keep a tiny basket next to my phone charger and every time I see a new pattern I have to swatch it I always attach a recipe card to my swatch with any notes on it the type of yarn the store that carries it if it’s an exclusive dye notations.

another phenomenal podcast!! you pack in so much info and fun ;) an especially useful video since I just bought my husband a hot water bottle as a 'gag' gift for christmas - he's always complaining that I don't warm up his side of the bed for him - and need to knit up a cover -- yay!! 🐑 warm wishes for the holidays 🎄

Great video! Last year I made the shortest day shawl, I used the 2021 sound of music advent by skeincocaine and oh how I love it. This year I already finished one advent project, the Brightside Sweater (it’s not a striped pattern but I did 10 rows of each color) with the HedgeHog Fibre 2022 advent and now I’m making JessieMaed’s Hello From my Colors Crop with Hello Stella’s 2022 Marie Antoinette advent, I’m a big fan of stripes so I love making projects with minis

I barely know how to knit. I basically only remember how to do a long tail cast on lol I typically crochet and i find a lot of knitting projects very daunting because a lot of them use smaller yarn and small needles but I have never wanted to knit some mittens so badly in my life. My 2023 goal is to make your fire pit mitts cause I have tons of yarn I have no plans for and the pattern doesn’t scare me 😂
