Happy Ramble Day folks! We have a road trip coming up in July and I'm starting to think about what sorts of projects I'd like to take along. Here are ten options that I think would make great road trip knitting projects. Drop your own suggestions in the comments! PS: Watch to the end. 😎 PPS: You may not think shawls are portable, but I feel like these ones mentioned here are, sooo yes. 😌 The Ravlery Bundle for these patterns favorites is linked in the description, but you can also find them here: www.ravelry.com/bundles/road-trip-knits Help support the work that I'm doing here at the WNH channel by picking up something fun from the Merch shop: www.woolneedleshands.com/merch Enjoy! ❤ #knitting #knittingpodcast
Usually crochet on travel projects, so I don't drop needles, stitches, or stab the person next to me...😂❤

Working with circular needles is easier when on the go and almost eliminates the stabbing problem ;-)

Fond childhood memories of my mother knitting in the car on family road trips.

Those are very special memories. ❤️
54 Ten Studio has some really good blanket patterns. They have a classic timeless look about them. All About Ami’s patterns are great too!
I always love your pattern suggestions. These are not just great road trip knits, they’re great gift knits. Got me doing my Christmas planning.

Oh good! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Ah! Making me want to make all the things. Not a shawl person either, but finding myself wanting something cozy for the chilly Bay Area mornings, instead of a hoodie or lap blanket while at my desk.
Great topic for today's ramble! Traveling and knitting are two of my favourite things! Even better together. LOL that 'outro' ....😂....gruggle.
Great ideas! I haven't had socks on needles for over 2 months ... a bit of withdrawal is setting in so this is a good reminder. On car trips I frequently crochet dish clothes because I don't have to watch what I'm doing - BTW I'm in the passenger seat. Lol.
I have a beautiful skein of malabrigo worsted in my stash which I didn't know what to do with. Thanks to you it will make a great sherbet bandana!
I may have to knit the gruggle/easwas combination just so I can use the words when I’m wearing it. You are so sparkly and funny, thanks!! xx

Totally!! Do it! And thank you. ☺️❤️
I’m starting the beeswax hat for my plane trip tomorrow. It has cables but they can be done without cable needles and the instructions for doing so are written right into the pattern.
I use to knit baby blankets while watching my sons play hockey. Great way to stay warm.

This is a fantastic way to stay warm! I actually have a granny stripe blanket that I take to crochet on once in a while and it's super cozy. 😊
So so SO love this one! While I don't do "road trips" per se, I am a travel nurse, and I have to be uber-picky about what I pack. There's only so much room in my car! For a 13-week contract, I always want a project, but there have been a couple I regret because oy! the yarn, the tools, etc. And, when traveling, there's always the not-so-fun surprises like losing a tool, or spilling a beverage on my project. Thank you, Tayler! I'm scouring Ravelry, and keeping some of your suggestions in my favorites
Definitely brought a blanket on a trip before and got some weird looks lol. My favorite recently have been knit tanks, especially the one skein ones for some stash busting!
Timely video! I am getting ready for a road trip and decided to cast on a summer tank. The Breeze Racerback by Jessie Mead Designs is calling my name! I am going to break it up by having another project in my bag, the Amma Granny Square top. I like to have projects with different size needles (or in this case a hook change up) so if my hands get tired I can work on something else.
Every project is portable, if you're brave enough 😂😂😂

I know, right?! While I was editing this I was like, “actually Tayler…..maybe a blanket…I mean…just saying.” 😬😂
Thank you for all the inspiration! Planning for travel projects is always tricky- not too complicated, portable, quick but not too quick. I usually pick mitten/fingerless mitts patterns since they are small.
The Hollows Shawl is gorgeous! I think that stitch pattern would be so amazing in a rectangular shawl too...
Hi Tayler. I’m about to head off in the caravan for 5 months so seriously on the look for road trip patterns. I will be crocheting the Sundance Throw but I clicked on the Easwas hat and then fell down the Kate Davies Designs rabbit hole. just gorgeous!! I have some bulky yarn so will also be making the Carbeth Cardigan. Thanks heaps. ❤❤
Loved this roundup!! And I love your approach to deciding on which patterns you’ll actually something from! Can’t wait for the next one!
We are getting ready for our annual trip from Texas to Yellowstone to see our daughter. The Musselburgh hat is on my mind for this trip!
Lots of cool new patterns to try! Thanks!!
Thanks, I will definitely add some of these to my Ravelry One of my go to hats is the Citrus Hat pattern by Laura Treadway. Also the Autopilot and copilot cowls by Dominique Trad.
Thanks, Tayler! Awesome, as usual....and my knitting mojo also got kicked up a notch from this "ramble". ❤
Orbit is my favorite road trip pattern! I've knit it twice and am ready to knit another!
All About Ami has a lot her patterns for free on her blog! I find that you can preview the entire pattern before purchase, or if you don’t mind ads, the free version is great! I worked up one of her headbands as one of my first ever finished knits for my grandma for Christmas last year.
Thank you for the great ideas! They are all lovely! I especially love the last shawl!😊

Fun fact: The Coquihalla is a highway in British Columbia, Canada, so the Coquihalla hat fits the road trip theme perfectly.

Ooo I love that!
Wow, what a great collection of patterns! That last shawl in navy is the bomb! 💖🙌😺
Well I’m going on a road trip tomorrow so this comes at the perfect time!
I'm so excited that you picked the Hollows shawl. I just knit it a few months ago and I really did enjoy it. If you look at the project pages, mine is one of the few knit in multiple colors. I liked the curves of the shawl that reminded me of water so it was the perfect project for beach themed yarn box that I'd bought from one of my favorite dyers. I had six 50 gram skeins and I came up short on the last section, but I worked it out.
Great pattern suggestions. But can I just say, the drape on that blanket is stunning!!! 😍😍😍
Great Ramble post! Really feeling that baby blanket and the 2 shawls. I think it was during Covid lockdown that I did some shawl knitting--Hitchhiker by Martina Behm, Hipster by Joji Locatelli, Peak District Shawl--a custom pattern from some yarn my Mom picked up in England as a souvenir for me and somewhere I have a Casapinka shawl on the needles. Great ideas for road trips. Thanks for sharing!
Great episode, thanks!
Thanks Teyler, great pattern round up.....I love the Easwas and have it on my list, seeing it here brought it up the list for sure! Hope you have a wonderful roadtrip.
Great topic!
Great pattern inspo!
A 9 inch circular needle is fantastic for plane knitting!
Thanks for the great suggestions! I love how you put them in a bundle. One of my favorite road trip projects is the Antarkis shawl by Janina Kallio. It’s just one skein of fingering weight yarn so it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Long circular needles don’t get dropped and lost in car crevices. The three stitch patterns are easy but change often enough to be interesting. I also see you have Joji Locatelli’s Lightweight Hipster in the bundle. That was also fun, and has many of the same qualities as the Antarkis, but I wouldn’t do the fringe in the car! It does have a garter tab start, which I find fiddly, so I might get that part started at home where I’m not getting interrupted a bunch. Mine turned out smaller than the pattern said, so I wish I had had a second skein, but I loved doing the cross-cross part and it came out really cute.
Yes!! My kind of knitting! Thanks for sharing this ❤
Great podcast sooo many ideas thanks ☕️🧶
Great show! I love Wonderlust socks!
Some great patterns!! A good ramble.. it does give ideas
Yes these are stunning road trip knits
If I'm on a road trip, I'm driving. So I knit when flying. I cast-on on the train to the airport, then work on the plane, and as time allows on my journey. I have two suggestions for bandanas/scarves. Both are free patterns on Ravelry and are adjustable for size. You can use pretty much any yarns. One is 22 Little Clouds by Martina Behm, the other is Close to You by Justyna Lorkowska. I've knit both of them multiple times.
Orbit is really appealing to me. Thank you.
Awesome! I love the Sherbet Bandana…I have that on my to do list!
I love Melody Hoffman!
👍 ❤Thx Taylor. Great video❤😊

@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS I knit it from start to finish in about 15 hours I think. I knit almost every morning for 1.5 hours before work and it took about a week.
If I can get this tee off the needles my round-trip project is going to be stash busting some soft cotton in a crochet bralette
I didn’t see this video… until tonight and we leave for Vegas tmw! 😂 my plan was to finish a shawl that i started during the first soccer tournament during lockdown it seems fitting that it gets finished during his very last club soccer tournament. And i have a second sock… 😂🚗⚽️

Heading over to Ravelry to buy the Summer Sidewalk blanket pattern!!! I will also the Melody Hoffman’s Hollows shawl (I’m also not a shawl person but, DANG!) Should we follow your link or does it matter? Thanks for all these great suggestions. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌵

Nope. You didn’t. Because I didn’t have a typical podcast episode last Sunday (I was busy with Father’s Day stuff) I will announce it this Sunday. ❤️
I love to knit socks on road trips… until I drop one of those 2.25mm needles onto the car floor! 😱 Note to self (and others): bring extra needles! 😉
