I wanted a white kitchen, so I got one. Then I wanted a beautiful wood-cabinet kitchen, so I got one of those. . . . after that I wanted my white one back. Turns out I just like change. Decorating is fun! As for the wooden beads; my bet is the same people who display beads also turn their books backwards! Thanks Garrett!!

I finally succumbed to my desire to have a white kitchen.. (refaced the cabinets and donated the oak doors, drawers, hardware etc, to a friend who has 1970s pressboard cabinets) .I have color though.. my cabinets are white but the color comes in counters flooring and small splashes of color on the exposed walls above the cabinets and around the windows.. . My kitchen was so dark, now it's bright without having to turn on flood lights!

My favorite kitchen of all time was the huge vintage kitchen/dining room in Moonstruck. Lots of light/white and a giant table with room for everyone to congregate in the kitchen while still leaving room for cooking & cleaning. Way too many open or exposed shelves, though. I would want all the cabinets closed except for a very few cabinets (one or two) with glass doors to display antique & hand-made items, such as woven baskets & ceramics.

Trend that I’m over: exposed light bulbs on every light fixture. I mean like over industrial/ farmhouse type. I think it’s better to have a mix of styles, especially if it’s literally a chord with a bulb hanging on it. It’s one of my favorite ways to mix styles is through light fixtures. Throw in some more traditional or contemporary fixtures to jazz it up a bit. I actually still love subway tile. I think it’s classic and hard to go wrong with it. I do like seeing it done a bit different though. Do a stacked or vertical design, or maybe a straight herringbone.

"The first trend we hate is... painting antiques" - immediately clicks 'like'. Agree on pretty much all of these. Floating cabinets - I'd forgotten how much I hate these! I've got one in my current bathroom but it's between a shower enclosure and a wall so it doesn't look too bad, although it's a pain to clean under. They're just one of those things that are often trying far to hard to be 'modern' but just look ugly and cheap. I could rant all day about things I don't like, but one thing, I don't know if it's been mentioned or if it's still a trend - a while back there was a thing for boxy plywood interiors. Sheets of plywood stuck to walls and ceilings. Featureless cabinets and built in cupboards all made out of bare plywood. An expensive material that looks cheap. Trying so so hard to be trendy but looking like a bike shed or pop-up shoe shop. I normally love wood but I can't stand this look. I'm sure it can't age gracefully either. Just seems like a waste of good wood to me.

Your videos get better and better, Garrett! You had me laughing all through this one! Like you, I'm OVER GRAY FLOORS! Having warmer colored wood or wood look flooring is not only more natural, it provides the most options for decorating. I also hate busy backsplashes, and I think they will be out like the grey floors! Remember those backsplashes with the small, glass, multicolored tiles? Yikes!!! Give me a nice marble or artisan tile any day! I love how you really listen and respond to your LeChic subscribers, Garrett! Thank you! 🤗 Colleen

We stayed at a beautiful hotel in England years ago that had renovated its bathrooms to include partially enclosed showers, that is, with a half glass wall. Needless to say, water went everywhere. I couldn’t imagine what housekeeping thought! I ended up cleaning the bathroom after every shower. No reduction in room rate was offered. It has to be one of today`s more ridiculous design trends, along with open kitchen shelving. Great video, Garrett, thank you!

I think some of those are hotel rooms retrofitted with half glass for accessibility reasons. The existing floor slopes the wrong way though so the whole bathroom floor gets wet and slippery so you have to mop it up with towels to avoid getting your feet wet or slipping.

I am over oil rubbed bronze. Had it in last house and all hardware rubbed off to brass! Current house remodel I mandated black matte doorknobs, hinges, strike plates door stoppers. Couldnt believe how hard it was to find in traditional. What little there was is very modern so I had to custom order everything😤 I am also over round door knobs. Lever style is more practical. Easy for arthritic hands, easy to turn if hands are wet or lotion-y, and you can open with your elbow! :D

I had an all white kitchen in a little 1945 ranch house and it suited it perfectly. Now I have a house in the woods that’s a little more rustic, so I have a midtone cherry wood cabinets, black and cream granite, bamboo floors, and walls that are a tan sort of color. Again, this kitchen suits the house perfectly. I also have a couple of open shelves on the opposite side of the kitchen from the range. Absolutely no problems with dust or grease so far and we’ve been here for several months. One trend I really hate is that fake distressed furniture. You know, with chippy paint or part of the paint buffed back off. It just looks cheap and tacky.

Advice: Couches and chairs made before the early-mid 80's are worth reupholstering, since the frames made pre1985-ish are made from solid wood with good joinery work. Couches and chairs made post 1985 (unless it's a super high quality line piece like from Baker) are usually made from cheap pine and stapled together. Post 1985 chairs and couches are throw away items. Hunt antique fairs for old couch and chair frames as those things will last 1000 years. Sad note, in the 70's, my mom had a gorgeous dusty rose velvet camel back Victorian couch that was 100 years old made with an oak frame, until my two 6'+ brothers, each over 200lbs, were wrestling and broke the frame. Still makes me wanna cry, as it had lovely lines and was very comfortable.

Open shelves are just not my thing. I imagine dirt, grime, grease and spider webs that aren’t even there! I DO have the beads, but they indeed have a purpose! Mine are rosaries that my family collected from their travels. All colors, some stone, crystal, natural things, or handmade beads. I actually prefer an all white kitchen, because my kitchen is tiny, and white is great when it’s easy to clean. I love that you’re so inclusive in your ideas, Garrett. This channel is great!

I slide open that glass and he scoots to the other side where the glass was now closed (laughing diabolically). This goes on for several rounds. Meanwhile Grandma's (me) back is giving out. Glass doors gone, shower curtain in place.

Very thin grout cracks & falls out as the tile expands & contracts with temperature changes. "Normal" white grout needs to be repeatedly sealed or it absorbs dirt & never looks clean again. I really hate grout in a kitchen. I wish my rental had smooth & uniform counters & backsplash, e.g. cut from stone or a stone-like manmade material. You still need to caulk the seams, but maintenance is nothing compared to "miles" of grout lines.

I have a floating cabinet in my bathroom because our house is heated with hot water baseboard rads. The cabinet is tucked between 2 walls and secured on top of the rads (that you don't see) and supported on both sides under the cabinet. We actually replaced the original cabinet from the 1960's and it was a big chore to get it off the wall. It would have never fallen off.

The grey rooms coupled with the white kitchen look like a prison tv room adjacent to the prison mess hall. My neighbor has this and it's hideous. Sterile looking with all the charm of a greyhound bus station. She even painted her stucco AZ home dark grey. It looks like a battleship. The only thing missing is a huge gun turret out front. What about that European trend where bathrooms have glass doors (not even frosted), or showers in the middle of the bedroom enclosed with glass panels. Not sure what designers are thinking, but even if you live with only your partner, you don’t want to see them washing his/her derriere or shaving.

I renovated my kitten from fake yellow oak,a red brick wall with built ins, and cheap laminate counters with checkerboard tile to white marble, white glass stovetop that blends in seamlessly, dark wood floors, matte black appliances and hardware with some gold accents and painted the brick with white wash. I love to accent the white with aqua accessories in case I ever want to change the accent color.

About 18 months ago I decided to redo all the floors in my entire house. It's a small house :-) I wanted luxury vinyl plank flooring. I could not find any that wasn't either gray or dark dark brown. I finally settled on one that I actually found that was a mid to late tone wood color. It grew on me and now I absolutely love it. I am so glad I didn't just settle for gray or dark brown. And many people I know who did put in gray floors are really regretting it now. But of course they can't afford to change it

25 years ago when everyone was getting their honey oak or their dark wood kitchen cabinetry, I got white! I loved it then, and I love it now! But….I am constantly wiping them down, so there is a maintenance issue associated with them. That is getting better though since my children are now grown and gone.

Don't know if this is an interior design trend, but I am very tired of "artfully" staged houses when put on the market. Realtors and stagers used to warn against keeping personal pictures around when a house is listed, but now they seem to think anything practical but not artistic needs to be banished. Where is the TV? Where are the lamps in the "library" and where would you plug them in ? Don't even want to get started on backwards books. Who sleeps in a bedroom with bed and an artfully placed chair with a color coordinated throw on it but no dresser or chest of drawers? Cold, impersonal spaces...

I have a one bedroom studio and a two story townhouse built on a barge, hence a houseboat. The studio has white Ikea cabinets and farm sink. But I added a light brown old wood hoosier cabinet. I bought it back in the 70's for $25.00 at a thrift store It ha traveled the world with me. Love the cool, clean and warm. The houseboat , you can see all the areas. So it is wood everywhere. A white kitchen would be a stark contrast to everything and would not make for a cohesive first floor.

I updated my mid 1970s kitchen (and baths). I kept my oak cabinets (quality of mine isn’t available now), but retouched stain and new coat of polyurethane. My new granite countertops are a simple white, and used it for the backsplash as well. I had all walls painted off white. I have lots of natural light, so I’m very happy with improvements.

”Wood isn’t supposed to be gray” - looking at my newly restored ash wood floor and some distinctly grayish pieces of wood, this piece was a bit funny! Though I do not like any of the gray wooden floors I’ve seen in stores where it has been colored gray or wood that has been grayed out by uv radiation outside, the natural gray tint in the ash wood is gorgeous.

Your comment is a stretch on what I was saying. What I was speaking about is vinyl flooring or wood that is stained gray. That is completely unnatural. You are seeing some warm gray undertones in the ash wood, but it is hardly a completely gray floor.

I will always love subway tiles…or at least laying tiles in a brick pattern. I don’t mind a floating cabinet but those floating toilets worry me. How secure are they? Plus they tend to have the water tank behind the wall. What if there is a leak? No, just, no. Now those Japanese toilets that cost $6,000? Yes! I will have to save for them but man are they great.😂

I'm sick of trendy lighting in general but specifically sputnik lights. I feel like a lot of people get them because they think they're fun and quirky but at this point they're so over done that they're actually kind of boring. Plus there are so many unique vintage and antique lights out there that I don't understand why anyone would go to a big retail store to buy the same "unique" light that everyone else is buying. This idea of something being considered unique and quirky while also being a trend that tons of people are doing is so odd to me.

If the place is mid century then fine. Or if you work for NASA or if your kid loves star wars. I love antiques but get why from a manufacturing and marketing point of view, they aren't going to make tons of one offs. Bad business model .we've got to move these refrigerators, we've got to move these color tv's. Getting the pulse of peoples wants. I like chandeliers, and they still make them and I like vintage shopping but you may have to rewire a lamp to code.

I don't have a white kitchen. I have gray cabinets. When I moved in to this house, almost every wall was painted a pale mint color, and I didn't hate it. But I immediately painted two rooms and I've painted more over the past year. My kitchen is now an ochre color, "Turner Yellow"--the name sold me! I'm going to paint those gray cabinets this year, mainly bc they're painted with latex and it's chipping off (ugh). I'm painting them a dark green that's almost black.

I'm painting my 1980s wood/laminate cabinets right now until I can afford to redo the kitchen and I'm going with a light gray for the cabinets and a dark sagey gray-green for the island. Brass hardware. Lol I agree about the beads-- too funny! To your "Things we don't like" list, I would add fake plants! Plastic defeats the purpose of a plant.

I had wood 70’s kitchen and went with a two tone, evergreen fog on the lowers and warm white on uppers with lots of natural wood accent pieces and black hardware and light fixtures, two small open shelves near the sink, used a warm white medium sized picket/hex back splash with soft gray grout.
