My single parakeet is a rescue and came from a home where she was terrorized by a cat (lost her tail feathers permanently). She has been with me for 6 years and I was advised not to get her a companion. But, she loves listening to other birds :) Thank you!

I’m sure you’ve heard this many times but parakeets need to be at least in a pair.

@@peacebysound4711 My single parakeet was a rescue -- she had been traumatized by a cat and children before she was rescued, (I fostered then adopted her) and she could not be put with other birds. With daily attention, it took me a little over a year before she trusted me enough to even get on my hand.

@@peacebysound4711 I disagree. My bird is out with me constantly. I'm retired. I am her mate and she is a very happy bird. I've heard this many times and will continue to hear it and will continue to think it's hogwash if the situations are right.

Mine is, too. I was advised not to get her a mate (she's a rescue and was terrorized by a cat in her previous home). It took a full year before she trusted me enough to come on my hand inside her cage. That was a slow, arduous process.

This brought my parakeets out of hiding in the corner and such.. More active.

Parakeets are so sweet. I love them. ❤

My new parakeets seem to feel way more comfortable when i play this! ❤

Yes. It's called the Cere. The darker it is its generally male.
