I remember when I was younger, early teens, when you had to travel to your friend to light fireworks, to bike as fast as possible, because all the other kids would throw that shit towards you on your bike. Seemed like tradition, the usual, it's new years... But holy shit was it dumb and crazy

@Th0mas _gam3s ik ben zelf ook een vuurwerk fanaat en hou ook wel van Spaans, Italiaans en Pools vuurwerk enz. Maar het dat cobra's/"illegaal" vuurwerk normaal is geworden is eigenlijk best wel ziek als je erover nadenkt. 10 jaar geleden was het wel anders. als er dan iemand een nitraat of cobra had was het ziek cool om het te hebben enz, en werd het altijd gehandeld alsof het 1 zieke bom was. nu heb je overal wel mensen die buitenlands vuurwerk verkopen en de mensen van tegenwoordig die steeds meer gevaarlijke shit te proberen met het knutselen van cobra's zoals je al aangeeft.

@@evandergreveling8442 heb je altijd al gehad inderdaad. Maar mijn punt is, het is wel ff 4/5x meer dan eerst. Tegenwoordig hoor ik ook gewoon dagelijks dikke knallen alsof het een warzone is, heb dan niet over een nitraatje maar gewoon dikke cobras en projecten midden in woonwijken etc. Vroeger zou der gelijk 2/3 politie autos op af komen. Tegenwoordig doen ze niet eens meer de moeite, tenzij er iets vernield is. En nee ik hanteer mijn vuurwerk nogsteeds precies hetzelfde ook al ben ik ouder geworden. Ben misschien zelfs heel wat voorzichtiger geworden nadat ik met me eigen ogen heb gezien wat “illegaal” daadwerkelijk kan aanrichten. En ben nogsteeds 100% een pyro freak maar nl hoeft niet in een warzone te veranderen met de nieuwe generatie die al minder hersencellen blijken te hebben met al die tiktok bullshit. Dat lijkt me geen goed plan😂

This couldn't be more true, the way cops find stacks of fireworks under people's beds, in sheds, attics etcetera starting in summer or early autumn... It's insane lmao. A lot of neighborhoods including mine start lighting shit up in October and then continue all the way to December to still give a decent show on the 31st.

This is the best tradition ever!! There are some people that are doing dumb shit and make it in these videos ( i still think this is funny as fuck) but they fuck it up for the people who just genuinely love this tradition. Also most of the fireworks you see are illegal and are being used the wrong way. Ps there is not much that gives you a better feeling than walking outside at 00:00 and lighting your fireworks with your family

I didnt realize how crazy (and dangerous) this tradition was until my norwegian wife ran inside the house at new years and refused to come out 🤣

31st of december is always a day to look forward to. Having drinks with the neighbours, light up some "light explosives", music, everybody happy. One of the few highlights in the dark winter period over here. As long as you act responsibly and know the potential danger of fireworks, I don't see any issue with it. It's a great feeling.

I live in the centre of Amsterdam and I LOVE the Dutch going bonkers for bangers.

I left the Netherlands in 2010 and I can say that fireworks is one of the things I definitely do not miss...

2:19 That was "Carbidschieten" and not exactly classified as fireworks, also most popular in the North and East of the Netherlands (most notibily amongst farmers). Carbidschieten or carbide firing is mostly done by using carbide (calciumcarbide (CaC2) to be exact) to react with water to create acythylene gas inside a closed container with a hole in it and a lid on top that can blast off. The gas escapes the hole and is ignited, the result is as seen. As to what Carbide is... wikipedia to the rescue: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbide 3:53 That bikeshop is situated in a suburb of the city of Groningen called Hoogkerk, and my mom bought her scooter there. 😅

Dutch 33 year old father of 2 here. Loved lighting fireworks since I was a kid, and still do. But in a safe way. The explosions seen in this vid are all kids being reckless and unsafe, sticking fireworks to gasoline and stuff. If you just light the fireworks as it's supposed to be done, it's absolutely safe and fun.

Not all Dutch go crazy....but there are some idiots who do go "all out" and get the illegal heavy stuff or stunt with the normal stuff. Unfortunately it's not just those idiots who get hurt when things go wrong.

I've literally been through war as a child and I was still clutching my pearls watching this video, being concerned and stuff. The guy is an ex soldier ffs, only shows how you Dutchies are hella crazy and I love it! 🤣

I’m Dutch, and this is not our typical fireworks, these are the mishaps and the crazies. Hilarious, btw.

As an dutch kid we used the grey sparkling sticks that makes the little stars to make pipebombs lol. We closed one end and break of all the grey stuff of the sticks fill pipes to the max. Close the other end and have some fun lol.

The "destruction of public property" is only done by those '13 year old idiots', I'm a huge firework lover myself and sometimes spend over a thousand on it a year but ive never destroyed anything. Anways December is getting closer and closer and people are already started with firing fireworks, so stay safe / doe voorzichtig en een fijne jaarwisseling alvast.

Luckily, in this video are the extremes. Unfortunately, it's not just on December 31. In some neighborhoods it goes on for months. Due to this I had to let my dog be put down by the vet. He was so scared, and the older he got, the worse. He was barking, shaking and panting for months, his heart was to weak to deal with the stress. This happened almost three years ago and I still miss him. I have tried every medical and behavioral options, they all didn't work. For me, there doesn't have to be a ban on fireworks, if only people would stick to the time-frame where it is legal. Then I could've knocked my dog out with veterinary drugs for one day. Can't do this for months.

I really hope someday we can reach a middle ground where we find a way to enjoy fireworks without effecting the People who do not like it. Because a ban is not going to solve any of these problems if not make it even worse.

Het is toch ook sinds vorig jaar verboden om knalvuurwerk af te steken?....het is bijzonder sneu voor dieren! Ik heb een kat gehad van 18 jaar. Nooit is hij er aan gewend. Altijd was hij in paniek. Als je het mij vraagt mag er een geheel verbod komen. Laat het op een bepaald terein afsteken door mensen die weten wat ze doen. En basta. Het kan toch nooit normaal

Sorry to hear that. I think the problem is responsibility. If we made it mandatory to become a member of a new years eve association (vereniging) before you could buy fireworks, the people who want to ignite fireworks themselves could still do it and the association would regulate its own members, because any violation could have them lose their license. Imagine if a member broke the rules by ignoring the time-frame, giving fireworks to minors or causing damages they'd be threatening the fun of all the responsible members and get kicked out of the association faster than you can say "wajoo". It's a simple solution that makes it easier for police to manage the problem, because you'd get the fireworks loving community to take responsibility for the chaos.

At 2:25 this is called Carbide Shooting. The carbide (calcium carbide in most cases) is not the explosive being used. Calcium carbide and water are being mixed in the milk jugs, which react together to produce acetylene gas. Acetylene is very explosive and is what is being ignited on these cases.

Mostly carbid shooting is done in the more rural areas of The Netherlands and there are stacks of multiple 'cannons' being stuffed with soccerballs to shoot like an automatic riffle (as fast, much much more sound and less damage..... sometimes....).

Dutchie here: I have mixed feelings about fireworks. I love to see them, but mostly the onces with colors and ending in a nice bang. As a teen growing up it was 'cool' to do fireworks, that was mostly for the bang. Do understand; what they're not explaining very well. Is that those crazy 'fireworks' which look more like small bombs. Are highly illegal here. Even on New Years Eve. But same with hard drugs, but we know how that goes.😅 So most people don't enjoy their neighborhood being destroyed. But we do love our fireworks. The last few years, especially since covid. The government has been more strickt with it, also due to environmental resons. But it's impossible to enfore it. So people still to it a lot. Personally I never buy it myself though, but love to start the year with a bang.😄

I love fireworks, and every year I get the largest that I can legally buy. But when you get too many reckless idiots taking it too far, then politicians will want to react with bans etc. You can enjoy fireworks without endangering half the neighbourhood. What I'm wondering about though is, where's the parents of all these juvenile delinquents shown in the video?! If I had a son and found out he was literally blowing shit up, he wouldn't be able to sit on his arse for a week.

This video is giving me some great flashbacks to some great but maybe a lil dangerous memories, has to be one of the funest things in my childhood .

To counter avalange danger they throw packs of actual explosies (dynamite) from a helicopter on the slopes, or a cannon is used to shoot at the potential dangerous area. (look it up if you want)

Omg I love new years eve. It's like that one day you can be mischievous. The examples in these videos do happen. But it's more the exception than the rule. 90 kids and adults will play "normally" but there will always be that group of "tough kids" who want to make the loudest bang they can

Some kids there take out the gunpowder of the small firecrackers, and put them in a iron pipe to make a bomb. (whats on the tree at 6:30) Or at 4:28 make a heksencirkel (witchescircle) and use the gunpowder to light it up all at one's.

Especially last new year's eve felt like a war zone were I live. The fireworks literally sounded like artillery and anti-aircraft guns.

Yep that was the best one, as a kid I loved fireworks, now I hate it when I see all the animals are suffering of it.

@Mentos Ligt ook aan je huisdier. Wij zijn al 2 jaar intensief bezig met training, vuurwerk op bandjes enzovoorts. Ze kan nu tegen knalletjes ver weg, maar een echte klap en ze jankt in paniek, rukt aan de riem en duikt plat op de grond. Japanse Spitz, keeshond is ze.

all year long other people suffer from those animals with the barking howling and horny cats in the middle of the night, biting, pissing and pooping everywhere. cry me a river about these animals and their owners who only have those animals to fill in their own empty void lives, only caring for them when they are home and leave them all alone during the day.. such animal lovers they are... smh...

most of the loud destructive fireworks are mainly just done with illegal fireworks bought in Germany and Belgium or in other countries throughout Europe, then attached to them are hairspay can's or gas can's. They been reducing the time of when its allowed to light them very very little, 2pm till 2am next day in some spots while most spots are banned. As a non resident in the Netherlands, a few years ago my husband and I were invited to spend New Years in the Netherlands. I like fireworks from a far distance. Closer to the Night of St. Silvestre (Dec. 31st), I started to see burned cars being towed away and my panic started to get higher and higher. Then it started. I went outside with everyone. Suddenly... Hell broke loose. I thought that I was going to die. I went inside and had a terrible panic attack. It was just like a war. I swear to myself, never to put myself in that situation again. There is no security at all in having everyone throwing fire works around. There is a place that fireworks are quite controlled, and that is Spain. They are magnificent, but as I said before I like them from a distance. 😂😂😂Greetings. 👼💙🙏

As a Norwegian and we have sort of same rules as in the Netherlands, but most adults do not let kids as young as 13 y use them, I feel like there is a war that day, and the days before, sometimes the days after. Illegal to use until 6 PM on new years eve and illegal after (I think) 1 AM, but there is always that one who keep it going until next day.

From which day can you buy fireworks in the stores in Norway? In the Netherlands people can order (legal) fireworks online as early as october, and can pick it up in the store on the 29th of december

Well, most of it is legal to blow up. When I stand on a firecracker of Dutch quality I feel something under my shoe but that is it. Then you are probably wondering how do you get the illegal fireworks? That goes through the false papers at the fireworks factory. And the fireworks factory gives them the product that allows them to sell it on the black market and the people here in the Netherlands buy it again on the black market.

Same. Some fire works are even more dangerous then bombs! And those poor animals😔 I have a bird, dog, a lot of hamsters and mice and rats and even horses. And i am NOT looking forward to it because of the animals. I just hope my bird won’t die out of stress.

Being Dutch I used to do most of these things a lot.To answer your question on how to make a bomb out of the smaller ones: You just open up some of the crackers and use the powder to make a line and then you just put all the fuses on that line. There is also a big thing with getting fireworks from either Belgium, Germany or preferably Poland. Most of the heavier stuff we get besides homemade stuff are from those country's. Disclaimer: Don't use strijker-powder. That explodes immidiatly.

The "what was that" was something called karbiet schieten: karbiet is a highly flammable and volitale substance that is lit in a iron vat (in the old days a milk vat). It explodes like crazy.

These bombs are illigal, its not the normal fireworks you can buy in the normal shops at the end of december. Keep legal fireworks alive!! (only on the 31th december offc. 😊)

It has become increasingly worse the last few years. People shooting fireworks at others with no regards for their safety. A few years ago I got ambushed on the bike to my friends on new years eve. Fuckers had something explode near my ear. It hurt all night and they ran off...and these weren't young kids, it were early 20's. With the years I began to support the view of banning all fireworks and just stick to professional shows. The damage and wounded each year are out of control. Our emergency services are under attack, police, firefighters and EMT's alike. Its the most horrible night of the year for them and they truly fear for their lives. The police suffering the most of it with explosives that belong in a warzone not as fireworks. Still some people defend it like no tomorrow by saying "Its new year, one last great party!" it's bullshit. It doesn't excuse the behavior and the danger they cause. People die and hospitals are swarmed with wounded. Who launches a firearrow from their ass? And then they go to bother the already busy doctors and medics with this bullshit.

It used to be innocent fun, but the last years it has become stark raving mad, not only for one night but weeks ahead and after. My colleage's 3 children all work as doctors at ER in hospitals in Amsterdam.....you don't wanna know.... Personally? The last couple of years I had to stay at home trying to console my poor dogs and cats, ONE night they could overcome, but not the insanity it is nowadays especially with the illegal bombs being available through the net... the costs of the destruction not being mentioned.... it has gone out of hand, if not being blown of leaving one handicapped for life...

Sounds to me like your kind of people are the real issue... I don't agree with destruction of public property, but I do enjoy the fireworks. About the animals? People talk about the polution from firework, have you ever seen the yearly polution and environmental damage of your cats and dogs (or any pet for that matter)? Exactly... Hypocritical cat lovers. Sure, make certain no-firework zones so people have a safehaven for their pets! Go a head by all means! But don't go hating on people that love the thrill and enjoy the marvel of fireworks within a city border. We don't ban all the pets either (al though we should limit them do to environmental concerns ;) ). Btw, it all went wrong when you lot started limiting the times we were allowed to light up fireworks even more. Then started to ban a lot of types of legal fireworks (al though the ban on baby rockets were common sense). Most accidents on New Years eve happen because of alcohol, many of the news articles show pictures of fireworks, but point at the total amount of injured humans during the intire day/night, even though most of it is from party violence. Only 1/3th (on average~) is involved with fireworks on NYE. Yet you don't ban alcohol consumption (Not that it would be possible to control that ban).

Everyone, whole families (yes including our pets) outside enjoying the fireworks celebrating the New Year, going from house to house hugging, kissing and sharing champagne & oliebollen Nowadays it is not safe to venture outside anymore for many "hero's" will be throwing their illegal bombs at you driving by in their cars. It is just a pity that it has become a warzone instead of a celebration. And you Pepin, pointing your finger??? Let's hope you are smart enough to hold on to all of them... take care, be kind and have a nice life.

I'm Dutch, and if there's one thing I really hate is the ridiculous tradition of fireworks on December 31. It's getting worse every year, and it's very dangerous. The fragments of film that were shown were quite extreme though. But if you ask me, I would be very happy if fireworks lit by citizens were getting prohibited

Consumentenvuurwerk heb je helemaal geen last van, het zware illegale vuurwerk is het probleem, doe daar maar wat tegen en laat de 95% van de mensen die wel op een verantwoorde manier consumentenvuurwerk afsteken dat gewoon doen. Knalvuurwerk is sinds verleden jaar ook verboden dus elke knal die je nu hoort is illegaal vuurwerk.
