I was out mountain biking and came across an old .22 long rifle casing. I picked it up and carried it with me to throw away later. During that same ride, my buddy crashed and messed his derailleur up and caused the cable to fray. I took the casing out and put it over then end of the cable, smashed it with pliers, and after a few minutes of fixing and tweaking, the derailleur worked just as it did before. I now keep a couple casings in my bag that I find along the trails for cables. It recycles and also looks bad-ass.

For anyone still riding tubes but gets punctures often put an old inner tube between your actual inner tube and tire. Of course you should cut the valve stem off and maybe cut through the inside of it so it can spread against the tire better and use tape to hold it there. Works amazing. Sure it's more hassle and weight but it's up to you if those trade offs are worth it to still ride tubes

Gas station air pumps are free to use by law in the state of California. Yes. I'm serious. It's actually the law. You don't even need to buy gas, just ask them if you can use the air pump and they'll hit a remote activator switch and tell you to head over there. Which is pretty helpful for us city riders.

Hey Seth!! a good hack for carrying duct tape: Wrap your preferred duct tape neatly around the body of a cheap plastic pen. Roll on as much as you want, or as little as you need. The an take a knife or side cutters and cut the pen body flush with the end of the tape. Makes a great tiny roll of duct tape, you can turn several feet of tape into a very small package, no bigger than a bid lighter. Speaking of lighters, you can wrap duct tape around one of those too, if you ever needed a lighter on the trail. Heck I’ve even seen people wrap duct tape around old gift cards. That makes for a nice flat carry method that can still hold several feet.

If you want picks just ask you dentist because the pics get dull an they just get rid of them but if you ask the they will likely give you a bunch for free. I also got a bunch of different pliers for teeth and braces with little points, clippers for braces wires and a handful of tiny pliers that lock shut on whatever you are holding on to.

Also, thought of a tip to share: Hang hydration pack reservoir upside to air out so they don't get moldy. Osprey sells fancy kits for doing this, but this is a cheap, free hack. I use a medium size paper binder clip on the bottom & wedge a small ~2" piece of cardboard at the mouth on the bottom to keep it open, then just hang it from a hook, nail, pegboard, etc. Also, to clean out the hose, I straighten out a wire clothes hanger & attach a small piece of scrap cloth to the end & push it through the entire length a couple of times.

For your tip about the presta/schrader valve swap, I saw you feeding quarters into the gas station air machine. I have a tip for your California viewers: In the state of California, gas stations are required BY LAW to provide free air to customers purchasing fuel. Even if you're not pumping gas, the majority of gas stations won't mind turning it on for you anyway (Most won't even check if you bought gas or not, especially since 90% of people pay at the pump these days). If you're feeling particularly antisocial, many of the pumps have a button on them to turn them on, but otherwise you just ask the cashier and they'll either give you a token or turn it on remotely. And if you DID buy gas, and they refuse, that can be a pretty serious fine if you feel like reporting them. They're also required to provide free water, but that's more for emergency radiator coolant, not drinking water (I sure wouldn't trust whatever comes out of that machine). Just don't be a jerk and use it as a free bike wash station ;)

Hey Seth! Love the vids! One hack I've found useful working in aerospace and riding my MTB - if you want a sticker to last a little longer, clean the surface you're placing the sticker on with some isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag. Let the surface dry, apply the sticker, then apply a thin layer of clear coat nail polish to the sticker. This helps keep moisture and other FOD from deteriorating the sticker 👍

one of the hacks in your videos about shoelaces getting caught in your chains can be solved by either stuffing the laces into your shoes or buying these things called Lace Anchors or Xpand Lacing System, it basically allows you to make your laced shoes into slip on shoes, I’ve been using them for years and they’ve really made things a lot easier for me to make sure I always have a nice tight fit on my shoes.
