    I like the pumping idea about water supply without electricity, also like the gravity driven ones (but I know that it's better to keep the heavy stuff low while driving)... but how about a system that's either a combination, or driven by air pressure? If I remember correctly some RV's and camping trailers had something driven by pressure... a pedal in the kitchen area would be pumped a bit before you opened the tap, then water came out in a very even stream for perhaps 10 seconds... same principle as a super soaker - pump and use... and since it was a foot pedal, you could basically keep the water running, if doing dishes or so, by pumping with your food every now and then.

    Add a slide out prep board under your current prep area. Build/buy a solar oven and cook outside..even in the cold. Build a box that stores your vegetables etc and faces outside. ie. exposed to the cold elements. As good or better than a fridge if you are travelling in cold climates.

    3:49 An oven in a van? I have a suggestion for you: a stove top oven pan. Available in a few brands: most famously the Omnia (of Sweden), expensive (about 70-80 Euros). secondly the Ibili Wonderoven made in Spain (about 35 Euros) and thirdly the Versilia made in Italy (Not sure what they cost but I would imagine about 40-45 Euros. the Omnia is the smallest at 2.5 L, Ibili comes in at 3 L and the Versilia is said about 3.5 L. For the Omnia and the Ibili oven pans you can use the Omnia silicone baking molds or get from Silikomart (sft205 - about 20 Euros) work well and there are two half molds available from Kampology for about 10 Euros. Then a bottom metal grate is handy to have to be able to bake those pre-baked rolls. For a two person team an Omnia or an Ibili is great to have, especially if you have a couple of silicon inserts (bundt style baking forms) and a dozen or so silicone cupcake molds for those cakes, rolls and small pies. Look into it, the stove top oven pans are a great addition to a travel van....

    In the FIRST van especially: Fold down or pull out shelf for work surface. You utilize basically NO space, only to gain more working area when you need it. I'm always very surprised to see wasted space or underutilized potentials in these vans.

    I am not often impressed, but have seen your work on that Spanish house and was, plus you seem open to simple ideas. I built my Vivaro using standard stuff, R&R bed, SMEV and cold box all housed in a standard unit with wardrobe, plus a swivel double seat. About £1,000 worth of off the shelf gear and as simple, roomy and comfortable as it could be. Except I find a wardrobe completely unnecessary, who hangs clothes up and you lose a lot work surface. So lose the top of the wardrobe and have long work surface. Where I have the coldbox is next to the drivers seat, but this wastes a huge amount of easy to get to storage, Instead drop the coldbox in a hole in the countertop next to the bed/seat where it is accessible and breathes better, using the storage underneath for emergency gear, accessible by lifting the coldbox. Finally a hinged lid for the section at the back, for clothes. The R&R bed has a massive amount of storage underneath, accessed by lifting the seat. I did my van in 2015 and have had 150-200 nights in it and I think this would be ideal in every way, cheap and highly practical for T4/5 Vivaro/Trafic etc. Fancy building it, a couple of weeks for you. By the way I use a standard folding table inside, which can be used outside too with two umbrella chairs. I need no extra battery as my coldbox is only powered when the ignition is on and the car battery is more than capable of powering two LED lights and a couple of USB ports What do you think sport?

    Great designs, after many years on the road with several types of vehicle, van, pickup, truck now a T4 Westy the main thing that bugs me is the dysfunctional orchestra in the back and I can see several of these designs are going to be loud on anything than smooth highway. But I suppose it depends on your location, we spend most of our time in the mountains of Europe from Slovakia to Spain, many roads are good, others are not and can range to the diabolical, 2 years with our T4 and I’m still chasing rattles.

Im sure you can come up with a solution to the other halves preparation space woes! One concern i have with many of these builds is the occurrence of propane and butane tanks within living areas? Nate Murphy Thanks for the swift response! So i presume it is a case of creating a solution that is legal in all the countries you wish to travel in, rather than just legal in Brittain (providing there are more stringent regulations in other countries) Also, i plan to use my van for a ski season or two in the coming few years, is your insulation solution man enough for temperatures as low as -20 degs C? Thankyou again, have a great evening!

  • @NateMurphy

    @NateMurphy

    5 жыл бұрын

    Not at all actually - it is about being legal in the country of registration & insurance. So my van is not compliant in Germany or Spain - but they don't test it. If I tried to import it and make it Spanish/German I would not be able to without making changes. (Ignoring the wrong side drive)

  • @NateMurphy

    @NateMurphy

    5 жыл бұрын

    Insulation wise - just be super careful with the moisture barrier and any venting from cap up to the above-cab area if you have a shelf there. The key thing for -20 is moisture protection and a fat battery bank & solar rig to ensure your heater runs.

    plenty of places! friends houses, paid camping grounds have showers usually, some of them have travel/camping showers that hook up outside the van and you just shower in a bathing suit, very common is to have a gym membership so you can shower there. always possible to stay clean!

    weed is so readily available these days its way cheaper just to buy when you need tbh. drive a few hours and you can probably find a state with legal weed.

    @Lyn M I do not have a KZread channel, however it's not a new idea to have a wood burning stove inside a bus. I do have an Instagram that has my entire build chronologically: @ezzydortoka . And no, it's not hard to regulate the temperature if it gets too hot, I have 18 windows to choose from😏😉.

    Last woman should reverse hinge side where her water jug slides out, also on bottom left, if possible. Great design otherwise.

    I am not sure did you ever make a video about how expensive it was to invest in your van? DO you just live there all year round and park in parkings or campsites?

  • @NateMurphy

    I almost never use campsites (probably 10 nights in the past 3 years). Therefore its food, gas & maintenance... which, if you travel slow like me - does not cost too much!
