That sounds really cute - and a great use of tea towels that aren't used much now!
Deck chair fabric is sold by the meter so for my outdoor table its a perfect runner for a 4 meter long table. No joins or bumps! Great stripes too.

Is your dropcloth a canvas? All I can find is plastic or that stiff canvas.

It's a canvas one. I've found them at Harbor Freight and Home Depot.
