$10 Glaze Sprayer for Ceramics

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Check out this $10 glaze sprayer. Spraying glaze on pottery and ceramics is a great way to get an even coat of glazes, underglazes or oxide washes. This glaze sprayer was under $10 and it's a great way to start learning how to spray glaze on pottery or ceramic sculptures. Spraying is one of the glazing techniques that has a lot of potential but it's often overlooked or not really thought about. You could use this to spray paint too!
amzn.to/2lUBimf - The sprayer I used in this video. It was under $10 when I bought it.
amzn.to/2KOt61D - I recently purchased this sprayer as well. It's also under $10. It's smaller but it was prime eligible so it shipped really fast.
Big sprayers cost more money and you need a compressor to force the air through. At minimum that type of setup would cost you about $100 or more. This sprayer is the best bang for your buck. I highly recommend trying one.

    Thanks!! Just ordered an $8 atomizer. This afternoon I'll remove the front hub from a well-weathered kiddie bike and make a banding wheel. (I knew there was a reason I kept that piece of 1990's memorabilia. :)

    Jim, did you clear glaze over underglaze as greenware or underglaze/greenware bisque, THEN did the clear glaze to cone? Nicely done. Think I'll try the atomizer. Nice for small jobs.

  • @CeramicJim

    @CeramicJim

    I’m pretty sure I underglaze and glazed and bisqueware. I can’t see myself doing anything else as I’ve only done a handful of once firings and I never liked doing heavy coats of underglaze and greenware in case the moisture causes cracks or if I want to restart.

    Great idea.. Just wondering.. what are the pro/cons of spraying glaze vs colour slip?

  • @CeramicJim

    @CeramicJim

    4 жыл бұрын

    Cons for both is that it’s messier and consumes more. Pros is you can blend and it’s very even. You can vary the distance to actually build texture with a glaze. For slips you could just brush them too and it would likely be fine or almost as good but aside from dripping, spraying a glaze is the best way to get an even coat. Or layer thin layers of glaze.

    I've always seen a mask recommended in case you're using airbrush no matter what type of paint you're using, wouldn't the same situation apply here, even though it's literally not feasible due to having to blow? Or maybe the device is too weak to create too many particles floating in the air?

    I’m just blowing air very quickly. If it sounds like I’m using a can it’s because I’m building up air in my mouth before I release the pressure built up into the straw.
