If they're as loyal to their cause as I am to mine, they'll be back, and it's gonna be bad news
For number 10, it just occurred to me that Ellie does the exact same thing that the NPCs do when they beg for mercy, TWICE. She gets curbstomped, gets spared, then when she’s free she just bumrushes back after them. And then she does it again. She’s that NPC. Almost makes me wonder if that’s what they intended when they put in that mechanic.

In Final Fantasy 6, showing mercy to Lone Wolf can get you a Gold Hairpin but screws you out of recruiting Mog. You should never show mercy to anyone holding cute cuddly creatures hostage in the first place!
@azalago
10 ай бұрын
It's less a case of showing mercy and more a case of choosing who to save, Lone Wolf or Mog. Lone Wolf falls either way and ends up surviving, you just don't get the relic if you choose to save Mog. The worst part is the Gold Hairpin is extremely useful since it halves the MP cost of all magic spells.
@shenloken2

It can be countered though when you get the Celestiad from a Brachiosaur reducing MP cost to 1. They’re somewhat hard to get but thankfully with a good team setup these enemies fall rather easily.

Should have put sparing the Asari in Virmire, If you spare her in both Mass effect and Mass effect 2, She gets indoctrinated by the reapers in 3 and goes on a mini killing spree. Technically not her or Sheperds fault but the outcome ends up being the worst if you spare her.

Why go with that military readiness stuff for the Mass Effect entry? A far better example was that time in ME2's Thane recruitment mission where you find an Asari hiding in one of the rooms, and if you do the Paragon thing and let her go you later find out she was a psychotic murderer.
@tycepickett1238
10 ай бұрын
Also the Asari scientist that was working in Sarens krogan cloning lab in ME 1 is a good example. If you spare her in the first game you find her again in number 2 working in Okeers cloning facility, and if you let her go again she runs like hell because she is scared of you blowing the place up like you did the first time, but she escapes unharmed. Then in 3 you find out that being around sarens facility was enough to indocteinate her and she assasinates a bunch of high profile people who were organizing resistance to the reapers before also killing herslef.

Conan Exiles probably has the most evil option when it comes to sparing enemies. Club some guy or gal over the head with a truncheon, then you drag them via a rope to the wheel of pain, which you then force your prisoner to push until they break mentally. All of this so you can recruit them to run around with you.

Another good one SPOLIERS- Bloodborne and the Suspicious Beggar. Spare him, send him in the cathedral with all the NPCs you went through the trouble of rescuing and what do you get for it? He slays all of them one by one .
Reminds me of Record of Agarest War, where the morality system felt extremely arbitrary. Not only is it 'evil' to go "elves age slower than humans? I wonder how old this elf is, then?", but it's ALSO 'evil' to go around an enemy fort and convince them they're surrounded to try to make them surrender peacefully instead of throwing away the lives of your soldiers in a frontal assault.
Except you get the best armor in Elden Ring if you keep sparing Patches. And your "punishments" are getting sent to areas you would have ended up on your own anyways. There is literally no benefit to killing him.
@ricardodarcangelo2437

True. More importantly, the teleport to Volcano manor is a good way to save time, and get to better smiting stones faster. I think this Patches is more a subversion of expectations, than a backstabber
@Amins88
10 ай бұрын
Also, if you're role playing as a "good" character, the teleport is the only way to fight Rykard without having to go through the murderous Volcano Manor questline. Granted, you don't actually need Patches' advice for that if you know what you're doing, but lorewise, he's at least "technically" correct with what he tells you.
I'm surprised Fallout 3 and the Tenpenny ghouls aren't on this list, but then again, it's not directly negative to the player if you spare everyone.
Man, I always go across the street in that GTA IV mission to where the crane is a climb up to the top. You can easily snipe Clarence so the mission is uber quick. Totally forgot about this mercy option confrontation.
The Witcher 3 free add-on quest "Where the Wolf and the Cat Play": If you choose to fight the injured Cat School Witcher, he'll ask if you'll let him take a healing potion first so it's a fair contest. If you agree, he instead hits you with a stunbomb that blinds you from the start of the fight for a bit.
In Megaten, you can have good outcomes by being merciful, it depends if their are good or evil, your level and the moon phase. So it s more complicated than what Falcon says when it s arbitrary.
I've fell victim to tactics ogre. I've spared them and in the end my favorite character whom I want to recruit died. I won't tell her name to avoid spoilers for those who haven't played this game yet

@@Fonzzz002 It's kind of strange in any game where there are choices and one is very clearly non-canon. It kind of makes that part of the story pointless. Kind of like how the entire Iorveth path in the Witcher 2 becomes non-canon as a result of Witcher 3.
Easy solution for every game: "Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy" If the enemy still resists, strike firster, strike harder and show even less mercy!
I think hes not telling the full story on Wrex from Mass Effect. I obtained all the war assets without killing Wrex.
Gameranx: Mercy is a good thing? r, r, right? Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando: Wrong. (BOOM!)
gameranx has to have the best YT community. top tier contents boys
Fun fact: You don't have to shoot Wrex, you could simply decide to never talk to him since he is the only one that is not forced upon to become a crew member you unlike Garrus or Tali. Part 2 and 3 then simply progress the same way as when Shephard respectively Ashley) kills him. Furthermore if you decide to destroy Malon's data in part 2, you then can convince Mordin in part 3 to play along with the betrayal of the krogans (because Eve being dead and Wreav being a maniac) and he will actually not sacrifice himself, but rather work just pretend to die and move on to work on the Crucible.

As Kratos once said "Close your heart to it."
"Well, if you really are that gullible." That really hits hard after how many games now haha
Great to see y’all consistent ❤🎉
On the contrary, long time FromSoftware players usually don’t get butthurt about Patches and keep him around for the familiarity and memes and benefits. All the areas he hints and tricks you into in Elden Ring are actually beneficial to you. It’s all in the framing.
I saved Wrex in 1 and it turned out great in 3. Got more than enough support for the good ending
Not sure if these count but in Dragon Age 2 if you show Marethari mercy during the quest A New Path then you'll have to fight the boss again with Merrill injured because Marethari stabs her, though the boss will only have 1/3 of the health it had instead of full health. Also in Fallout 4 if you spare Danse during Blind Betrayal, then any time you have Danse as your companion the Brotherhood of Steel will attack you on sight.
I remember something similar happening in Ogre Battle 64. Made the choice that seemed the most morally correct and your beloved allies hate you for it and end up fighting you. It's been several years so I don't remember the details.
That Mass Effect one is awesome! Two whole games later. Nice
With The Last of Us Part 2 they could have EASILY made that game mechanic matter. Have Ellie show mercy throughout the game, and the ending makes sense. Have her ruthlessly murder everyone.. get an ending where her rage, and hatred consumed her. Which could have made the game way better better.

Love your vids man 😀
Kingdom come deliverance will actually let you spare enemies for money or just make them drop their weapons and leave.
Regarding that first one with Last of Us Pt 2. In Call of Duty WWII's campaign, there will be moments where the Nazi soldiers will actually SURRENDER and the game actually suggests that you just take them in and capture them, instead of well...gun down a soldier, (even if it's a Nazi), who is surrendering. If you capture them, you don't get a bullet in the back for it. In fact I think the game sort of rewards you in some capacity for doing that. (Like an achievement maybe, it's been years).
Whenever Falcon is telling me anything, i go: "Yaaaas Falcon, slaaaay"
Love these vid keep going ❤❤

Yo. That had that mad massive mass, yo.
The mercy situation in TLOU2 doesn't just make the contrived story even more contrived but is inherently contrived itself because the game doesn't give you the option to take their weapons. It means either Ellie is an idiot who spares heartless terrorists without taking their weapons or she uses basic common sense by just killing them but gets portrayed as a monster by the story for doing it.
One moment that is kinda similar to this is: In Detroit: Become Human when you use a gun in the beginning of the game and decide to intimidate the person (Daniel) instead of executing them immediately, you say: "It's up to you how this story ends." And he just shoots you 😅 It's realistic but come on dude, I was trying to be all epic and cool 😩
Also, just yesterday i was playing Gta V and using trevor for the first time. That mission where he wiped out a whole biker gang. When he got back to a guy in a trailer, after he rammed it into the river I had the option to show him mercy, but I'm playing as Trevor, I blasted him instantly 😂
Number 5 is wrong, if you saved the salarian council member, they will still give you support, there is still a small advantage but it rarley will effect the outcome
Best gaming channel on KZread, hands down.

Usually I'll be lenient and show some mercy from time to time in certain video games, but way back on my first playthrough of GTA IV I could sense the deceiving tone in Clarence's voice and knew it was the better choice to finish him off. Sure enough, I soon found out after reading about the choices online that I made the right decision.
Y'all had me dead with the Reading Rainbow sound clip!
For Mass Effect I would go with sparring the geth in legion's loyalty mission. Might seems good giving a massive amount of geth time to rethink their actions and even make sense if you know about the reaper invasions to spare them since then there would be millions more geth to fight the reapers but instead they rejoin the reapers in ME3 and are 1 of the 2 strikes you have for getting both the geth and quarian support.
Assassins Creed Odyesse - if you save / spare the sick family early in the game they end up seriously spreading a deadly desease
You should have added Disco Elysium… Literally EVERYONE lies to you if you are a merciful character. It also becomes impossible to get the true ending.

@@dutchdude1985 FFT is freaking awesome. You’re actually lucky you played that first because it had easier to maneuver mechanics. Definitely better quality of life perks when it came to things like UI. The original Tactics Ogre games were pretty janky. The one for the Nintendo 64 was probably the best, imo.

@@marquislexil Im trying the SNES version at the moment it was the oldest i found. As for FFT yeah it just came natural as the first game to get me seriously addicted was FF IX i still love that style and setting above any other. FFX before the girlgang ruined it was great too but as for game mechanics and versatility in jobs nothing beats FFT for me. Finding out there is a whole Tactics Ogre series to tap into is a refreshing find but i truly had never heard of it.

@@marquislexil Before anyone can bring it up, yes i did try and finish FF VII and while the post apocaliptic world has its charm i prefer the medieval fantasy of IX, an unpopular oppinion but still atleast its my own to have.
