At 61, I adhere to 9 out of the 10 you listed! The one "rule" I break is wearing the occasional hoodie (sans logo). I have 2 hoodies that are truly staples in my casual wear wardrobe: one in a beautiful pumpkin color and one in navy. They are layering alternatives to a cardigan or pullover sweater. I would not wear them to the office, but on a day off, absolutely!

I agree! Love my two hoodies also! One is an oatmeal -coloured cashmere, and the other a rose brown sweatshirt, with a split hem. I love the cashmere hoodie under a coat in the winter..a very stylish and modern look that works for all ages,I think! It's important that we adapt "rules and recommendations" such as these, to our own lifestyles and personal preferences. Feeling comfortable and at ease in our clothing is the predictor of fashion success, in my opinion.

I agree with the majority of things you said but I also believe that our personality plays a part in how we dress at any age as well. I can’t necessarily wear some things my best friend wears. It looks good on her but I can’t or don’t wear it because it’s just not me. I follow several fashion influencers and you all are very good in your style choices but yet you’re also all different. So at the end of the day I dress in what makes me feel good and confident! Thanks for the tips! 🤗

You are 100% on point with the "wrinkled knees" 🤣 One thing to be added: exaggerated makeup and hairstyling...too much makeup, too bright colors, cakey skin appearance...also unnaturally looking hairstyles, brightly colored and/or excessively styled... everything has to be softer, more naturally looking at any age and especially on us mature ladies.

Bravo! All those “Housewives” shows are the reasons so many women are trying to hold onto 21 for decades. Tight, garish, and too short clothing, albeit designer threads, make these women look clownish. Another glaring mistake is the long, twisted, bottle-blonde hair (extensions?) that is constantly being manipulated onto the front of the shoulders. One cannot go back in time. Why not enjoy the stylish experience of looking forward! Be beautiful inside and outside!

The funny thing is, I'm 44 and I almost never wore these things even when I was young. I've always preferred a more classical style. 🥰 I have been wearing more navy because of your suggestions Marie-Anne. For years I wore black pants and I have noticed that so many younger women wear black pants all the time which really looks so dowdy. Some fashionistas just don't get that black is not really that smart any more. With your guidance I have been able to explain to younger women that black isn't always smart and flattering. I think that enhancing all of our body is important not just one half of it! I love the idea of putting colour near the face, for all ages, and even on the bottom. A jacket is everything I feel and it's what brings things together. All of these things I have learned from you. Thank you 😊

I walk 30 miles a week, which often includes errands at shops in walking distance. I wear my not-skin-tight yoga pants because they are soft, comfortable, and slimming and a ball cap to keep the sun out of my eyes and add a pop of color for visibility. When it is cold, I definitely pop on a hoody to keep my neck warm with the hood up over the ball cap to keep my vision to the side clears. That is 10 to 15 hours a week out in town where comfort rules. And with each walk, the yoga pants look better and better. Add to this my step tracker watch to keep count and keep me motivated (over 3 million steps in 15 months) and I get healthier and slimmer so I will live longer to enjoy more fashionable moments.

Totally agree ! We need to recognize that we all have different lifestyles , regional & climate / seasonal differences, etc. which require widely varying clothing choices . Somehow , getting in & out of a four-wheel Jeep in " dress " clothes while wrestling landscape material or accompanied by a 100 lb. dog is just not feasible for some of us . 😂 There's definitely a time 'n place for jeans & sweatshirts , yoga pants & hoodies , just as there is a need to have some appropriate clothes ready for special occasions such as dinners out, church -related events , etc. We need to learn to dress for the actual lives we live , not the lives we pretend to live . 💟

I agree with all these tips. Especially, I see many older women here in the US dressing super-sexy everyday with skin-tight clothes, 5-inch heels and done-to-the-max hair and makeup. It makes them look older and a bit sad. I would add as a No-No the current super-girlish trend of flouncy, floral prairie dresses, I wore those as a girl in the 70s. At age 62, I need more sophisticated clothes.

Marianne, here in the upper Midwest I agree with you on everything but hoodies. BUT as a woman over 60, I only wear my hoodie in one of my best warm color to outdoor events (high school football, gardening, hiking) when weather appropriate with classic jeans and warm footwear. Unless it is deer hunting season when I wear a oversized blaze orange hoodie over everything (even my fall jacket) so no hunter will mistake me for a deer. Another awesome video Marie Anne. I agree with most, specially the ripped jeans. I own a few hoodies and wear them as needed. Mostly for camping, being out on the boat, walking the dogs in the rural areas, under my windbreaker when riding my bike on colder days, gardening or sitting in an open field, watching my grandson play football. It's often cold and windy here in North West Canada. You need hoodies. They are not a fashion statement, or for looking younger.

You always provide such good advice. Two garments I absolutely hate are leggings and skinny jeans. The jeans seem to always bunch up and look wrinkled around the knees and most women, even the younger ones, simply don't look attractive in leggings. I have a pair but only wear them in the winter under a pair of slightly over-sized jeans when I'm working outside on the farm or with my horses. They do provide extra warmth. I never wear them when I'm going out in public as I just think they're ugly!

I agree with you on most of the items, and I'd like to add that camo, most floral, and (the beloved) animal prints can be skipped. I never understood the attraction to animal prints, as they've always looked "old lady trying too hard" since they became popular 30 years ago. A woman can look so much more elegant without them. If you ask any woman or man regardless of age, they will tell you that they know how old an older woman is despite her attempts to look "young." That includes hair color and makeup, but of course everything is a personal choice. Just don't think we're fooling anyone, because we're not. Let's just opt for age-appropriate chic and elegant!

She had her hair dye a soft lilac and baby bubble gum pink she look so sweet modern and elegant i think adding some alternative to elegant make more unique and stand out but in a good way.I keep seeing ladies wearing the same clothes and jewelry brand everywhere like clones like they are scare to wear what they like and not fit in ! Like i said in one of your older videos i have tats and body modification i wish to see more alternative people wearing elegant clothing too ! I still have difficulty of toning it down with my jewelry i always love my bling so many to choose and not enough ears /wrist/neck and nose to wear them all ...😫😁

I wore the short skirts in my 20s, but at that age I had the legs for them! That was also in the 1970s 🤣. Now that I am 70, the legs nor the knees can pull off that look 😢, so below the knees is the hemline for me! I was very happy to find I’m not making any of these mistakes!

I don't have wrinkled or saggy knees but I have never suited short skirts. My legs are shapely up to the knees, but past that they look chunky. The suggestion of wearing black tights with short skits is a good suggestion. I could also have worn a shorter length flared skirt with black tights which would have flattered my legs. I do prefer midi or longer length skirts.

🤯Wait...WHAT...no camo or hoodies! 🤣I have an amazing leather camo jacket that is cropped at the waistline that I know I will continue to wear and not even care about the age thing. That camo jacket with black wide leg pants and pumps looks amazing to me without me feeling that I tried too hard. I may even do a hoodie with the logo of my University to show support for big games. I am healthy and strong at my age and that's important to me with so much crazy going on in this world.. Thanks for the video and your fashion pointers.

I live on the west coast of Canada and I admit to wearing yoga pants a lot, even to run out shopping. But I do try to pair them with a decent top/jacket. I ride my bike almost everywhere, so it seems fitting. Totally agree on the rest, no ripped jeans, camo, boxy T-shirts, hi cut or lo cut pieces here.

Totally agree, on all points, except my 1 hoodie. I wear it on windy days to protect my face. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia which is excruciatingly painful and can be set off by the wind touching my face. I have pared back my jewellery considerably in the past few years. I also think matching jewellery is very Nanna looking and avoid it like the plague.

in my part of the US, it is very common to see almost all women, of all ages, wearing : leggings, sweatpants, jeans, pajama bottoms, hoodies, sweatshirts, hair in messy buns, etc when they are at the grocery store, shopping malls, restaurants, etc. Everyone here is overly 'casual'. Yet, I always wear skirts or dresses every day. It's funny the comments I get from strangers, such as, 'You are all dressed up, did you just come from work?' and 'Wow... we don't see any customers wearing dresses these days'. Yet when I lived in southern Spain and in the United Kingdom a few years ago, it was very common to see ladies in skirts or dresses on an every day basis.

Since my fifties, I realized I want and need more sophisticated clothes, not teenage looks. I’ve been editing my closet for a year (weight loss) and just realized that there are whole categories of much-vaunted “essentials” that I don’t actually wear. Traditional short-sleeved t-shirts, for example, I really only wear my white ones with different necklines. So why do I have a whole wardrobe of T-shirts in every color, prints and graphic ones? I also have near-replicates in silk, cotton and linen, it’s not necessary. They’re just not that important for my wardrobe, but they are all too easy to purchase, being cheap, abundant and easy to size. I’m going through this category today, hoping to cut the number in half. I’ll keep only the high-quality and most versatile ones that I actually wear, I doubt if I’ll miss the others.

I have never had fashion sense and gave up a decade ago. Now I'm trying to learn to do better. First I stopped thing athletic shoes with everything was s good look. Just a few weeks ago I HAD to buy some new things. I bought ripped jeans (casual Gen X wear), skinny jeans and black/camouflage leggings. I'm 57. I guess I better keep watching, but in my defense, classic business attire is not needed much in my life.

I’ve never worn camo except the one time I went hunting with my husband. I do love a hoodie if I’m out walking on a cool day but I’ve realized I haven’t bought any in years. I more often wear a cardigan if I’m going shopping or something. I have to admit though I love a white T-shirt with jeans and tennis shoes
