Elderly Falls I find that when I have a stable object to touch, my balance improves radically. I do not need to hold on to the object just touch it with my finger and my body and mind can then bypass the faulty inner ear balance system. A simple toy gyro could probably serve as a stable object for the elderly to touch to get a stable reference. The elderly patient could hold the gyro in their hand to get a "ground" reference. A possible issue is that when the gyro is forced to move, a force develops which is at a right angle to the direction of acceleration. The gyro might work as well if it was attached to the body, possibly to the neck or head. I don't think that this is on the market at this time. I had the idea when I realized that I did not need to hold on to a stable reference, rather just touch it.

I think your "elderly" exercises are very good and worthwhile. I also think your health and safety advice is excellent. I have been to exercise and dance classes over the years, and some U.tube teachers are lacking in health and safety and good explanations... many a teacher had poor advice regarding a persons ability and safety aspects. Excellent!! I have just discovered you and intend to use your exercises as a routine. Many thanks.. great works..👏👏👍🇪🇸🇬🇧🌟

Excellent, as always! Thanks so much for all of the work you put into the additional written and video material for preventing falls. I think that many of us have a real fear of falls as we age, and doing these exercises is imperative to giving us more strength and confidence -- and knowing what to do if we or a loved one does take a fall. Mike, bravo!!! Your approach to senior exercise is such a gift to all of us who follow your videos and written pieces!

Mike, and magician-in-the- making, this routine was well thought out. I never mind moves you've done before. It's about the design of the routine, how you mix it up. I'd commented before that I do balance exercises, including the dynamic ones about 3 times a week and they've paid off. I've been doing the tandem walk and on my toes both forwards and backwards. The figure 8s were fun. As for the hip and knee extensions and the hip abductions, I was able to do all of them without holding on, thanks to your videos and practicing. Your well researched article was great. I have to assume you'll be adding this very important video to your compilation of exercises. Thank you for starting my day knowing I'm doing very well...Anastasia

In another of your videos I also saw a seated straight-back 'sit-forward' move: great! No rounding! Really helps to strengthen my abdominals. And I'm working on decreasing my just-discovered upper-back curve. Mum was right when she said, "Dear, don't slump".....

Mike, could you answer a basic question of how often to do exercises? I am 70 years old and in good health. Use an eliptical most days for 20 minutes. My question is related to your videos. I watched 1 where you showed how to do leg strenghening exercises while standing and seated. An earlier video. Should elderly people like me do them EACH DAY or every other day?

Hey Mike, excellent, gentle, encouraging video! Great intro as well. :-) And LOVE the invisible chair! :-) Looking forward to going through it. I like how you have the progressions; I now have a use for those ankle weights! I would love to try at least some of these with my mom who is 97 and uses a walker. Physiotherapy is in the works but until that happens, I'd like to do the knee flexions with her. We have done these before. If we do only those, will she need to do warm-ups? She is quite frail and I don't want her to strain anything inadvertently. Thanks so much!!

Hello. Thank you for the exercises. Are these ok to do every day or must there be a rest day in between? Thank you in advance for your response. I appreciate it.
