Glad to see that you covered the color-breaking crease conundrum! I have a UF4, newsstand, with a small color-breaking crease in that same, lower-right corner, and I came to the same conclusion of an 8.0 grade based on Overstreet's grading standards. I plan to send it in to CGC in the near future and I'll be curious to see what grade they assign it. Thanks for the great video, and I'm looking forward to checking out your Whatnot show this Friday!

Fantastic video! I feel much better about my own, self-taught, unprofessional grading eye. I would have graded those books exactly at what you graded them. The only thing I wasn't aware of is that the cover indentation on that Todd McFarlane Batman comic won't come out with a press. I would have lost out on that one thinking that could be removed. Thank you so much for creating this awesome content!

Interesting to see you go over that Mark Jewelers Iron Fist and the Avengers Annual 10. The Iron Fist with the staining/tanning on the back, the corner dings and the spin ticks I can't see it getting more than a 7.5 and I think a 7.0 is more likely. And the 1st Rogue with the tear and small stains I don't see it getting more than an 8.0. I'm interested to see what they come back as. RE: the staple tear you have in a 9.8 - "known defect in that book" is the key phrase. If more than 25% of the print run has a specific defect then CGC will not hit you for it. So it's not about it being a staple tear in a 9.8, it's about it being a "known defect". If less than 25% but still a "known defect" they'll hit you for it, but not that much. Not sure if they put "known defect" somewhere in the book or not but it's not a contradiction. CGC has always applied that to grading.

If graders were giving a pop quiz on information from this book, how many people do you think would fail and what is the average from all the employees at cgc do you think. Wish they would have something like that and then have top performers work on the grails were .5 difference is big $$$

So if you had lightly pressed The Boys could you maybe get a 9.9 or a 10? And the recessed staple could you release a bit of the pressure on it to make sure it wouldn’t pop through the cover, or would they catch that and call it restored?!?

Interesting video. At about the 19-minute mark you mention the most common modern book issue which is spine color rub. I was surprised when you said it could still get a 9.8, because I have gotten several books back from CGC which were 9.6. or 9.4 and the only issue was the spine rub. Because I did not get grader notes I can't be sure, but that is the only issue I could see.

That's great info! I feel like CGC definitely grades a book way more harshly if the book has reader damages such as a dog-eared corner and less likely to be as hard on books with general wear.
