It can be done, as long as you find an actual Niche to occupy and don't compete directly. I own both of the Gamebuino Arduino-based 'make your own game' consoles, and both of them are great (sans some issues with the first due to age and rough handling) But that's not a market most folks are going to go for.

But who cares for cheap mobile-gaming based underpowered console for the living room. Doesn't make sense. If I'm going to invest some significant portion of time to play in the living room - it should be a quality time. And OUYA-like hardware and android games can't deliver it. The assumption that we want 'cheap' stuff is wrong. Personally, I want 'good value' stuff. And for example, Sony PS with 400$ price and 60$ game are delivering more for the buck than 99$ OUYA with some shitty 2$ mobile 'game'. Not to mention freemium crap, hidden costs, bothering FB friends for coins...

He wants to create a console AND videogames for it. He described them extremely rudimentary and used stolen footage. He used random images that he probably got off google. True But having something physical isn't saying much, when it's just a motherboard in a box. I could shutdown my PC right now and take the motherboard out and film it with my phone. That doesn't mean that i have a prototype. It would take 5 minutes and i literally don't even have to get up from my chair. That guy didn't show the "prototype" actually turned on and he also used stolen footage. Both of those things are huge red flags. If he's actually legit i hope he succeeds as well. But I'm 99% sure he's just a scammer that wants to screw people over and get quick money.

The last one, the Omegaboard, sounds like an interesting concept if it were actually made seriously. Maybe even the ability to joined 2 or more boards together to make a larger board and with different shapes. If a serious company decided to make one, I think there are a few people out there that would be interested. But, that said, nowadays board games seem to be all but dead in the general population unfortunately... And I wish South Africa luck!!

  • @rna151

Yeah, honestly thought that one could maybe work. There's the obvious hurdles of how to handle irregularly-shaped boards, getting licenses for popular games, etc. but Tabletop Simulator was actually pretty successful on Steam so I'd call that some support for there being a potential market for this kind of thing.

PlayPod Not to mention how much space you could save. If you could pitch this to Wiz Kids/WotC/Hasbro/other major board gaming companies, then support it via an app store, that you could download their titles from? Yeah, I could see a market for that. Especially with strategy gamers who'd want a save state of some sort, without the hassle of leaving the board/pieces out until they can continue.

The concept for this video reminds me of the iControlPad 2- the first Kickstarter campaign I ever backed. The iControlPad was a very real controller that I had never managed to pick up when it was available, so supporting this one sounded like a great thing. It was going well too for awhile with good progress updates, but eventually it became clear they bit off more than they could chew and finally one of the people just took what money was left and ran, leaving the rest involved to sell back parts they had purchased and issue what partial refunds they could as well as original iControlpads they had left over to others (I opted for that, but ended up barely using it- I had purchased a Moga brand controller in the meantime). The Kickstarter page is still there for anyone who does a search, as well as a kickscammed page. Just search for icontrolpad 2 on Google.

The Omega Board seems like an interesting idea if it was done right. It could be a large tablet that sits on your table and lets you play whatever board game you want. It could also be used to play touch screen games and support bluetooth controllers for more sophisticated games. It could even link to your phones to play party games like Use Your Words and any game from the Jackbox Collection, and it would be as powerful as a Nintendo Switch. Though I suppose my idea already sounds better than whatever was promised by these shady people, so that pretty much says a lot of how much of a missed opportunity this is. Also, I'm glad the Dreamcade wasn't on the list, solely because I pre-ordered that thing and didn't want to think that I wasted all that money on a system that wasn't going to come out.

Ya know, it would be cool to have a console that allows multiple different people to play on a single system at the same time, with controllers hooked up with a headset with a screen on the inside so each person could play on their own unique data. For example, if you want to do co-op in Dark Souls but don't want to be worried over gank spankers or hackers, why not have your brother join you offline on the console? He plays from his world, you play from yours, and the both of you can just go about while being on the same console, but it plays as though you're not even in the same room. Also, it would allow for splitscreen games such as cod to not have anyone do any screen peeking, and though it's similar to playstation VR, I think that my idea is a little bit more logical. Notably, the headset is not for modern VR games; it's just a way to divide the console for each person plugged into the system to play their own. Oh yeah, and I have no idea for a name for the console. Maybe "The Celestial"? It's based off my current game development idea.

The Oton is a glorified custom HTPC made with off the shelf parts. The case is a Habey EMC-600B, and I'm not sure of the motherboard, but it's a mini ITX board with an embedded Intel chip (possibly Atom) from the looks of the heatsink. And these embedded chips are usually awful for gaming PCs.

I think the Omega Board idea is actually pretty cool. IF, they could really make one, with support from board games companies, and it allowed rectangular boards of course. The only real problem would be, how would any player be able to keep "hand items" that nobody else can see?

I LOVE my Android Console. It's a homemade model bought from the Flea Market next to my Store. It runs everything on the Play Store like BlueStacks does on a PC. I like it because I can use the controller provided to play games like PUBG, Fortnite, and NOVA or I can Bluetooth my phone to it to use touch controls. It also has Xbox and PlayStation Controller support via two USB ports or wireless if using the Sixaxis App and also supports a mouse and keyboard. Idk what's inside it because he 3D printed the casing around the components so it doesn't actually open up. I'd assume its a Raspberry Pi or something similar though.

That last one, the board game thing, is a super good idea. I'd be all about that, from a company that could actually do it. The square screen isn't really an issue at all, certainly not the device-destroying one you mention it as - screens can scroll! May as well be shocked you can fit a whole website on a small phone.

Emmanuel's console actually caught my attention. If he can get that completed, it could potentially be a huge hit, filling a niche and market that's still very wide open. There's a couple of Africa-based developers that are _already_ flourishing in the smartphone and tablet market, but just a couple. He does still have a few things to learn about marketing (I think the images of gears and controllers are to establish a mood, but it does come across as odd), but he's the only one here making a genuine effort and I sincerely wish him the best.

The wii u wasn't hated as much as it made little sense to gamers. The ports are different versions too: the switch ports of captain toad have different levels based on oddessy. Anyway, the hardware part of making a platform is the hardest and most expensive part: to make another OS for it like MS, Nintendo, or Sony does require much more staff, but it's easier to port android for these micro consoles.

There is really no reason the idea behind WAZO couldn't actually work, if it was a software only "game system", which could be ported to any compatible hardware. Create a unified software "wrapper", (much like the Java environment), which would run the game and handle the LAN/WAN connections to other players.

To be honest Dimention x is a good idea if he was more tech savy he would know it is near impossible to do , the reason why most developers puts platfoms on different networks are because it is a different structer per platform, and to include them all they have to code each entry seperately which is a mayor thing.
