The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney stop motion film. And Chanticleer is a character from Don Bluth's film Rock-A-Doodle.

I've seen that someone else already said this but Chanticleer (sp?) is one of the ones that saw the light of day in another way- as the Don Bluth film Rock A Doodle. In Don Bluth's re-imagining, Chanticleer's story is a bedtime story for a boy- this part is live action- whose family runs a farm. In this version Chanticleer was tricked by a fight into not crowing as the sun came up and either downtrodden or losing the faith of his friends, runs off to the city. That night in the "real world" there's a particularly bad storm, and the boy- alone, worried and scared- declares that Chanticleer needs to crow. But the owl who replaced the fox as the villain doesn't like this. He turns the boy into a cartoon cat stuck in the world of the story. Along with some of Chanticleer's friends from the farm the boy heads to the cartoon world's city to convince him to come back to the farm and crow the sun into coming back to save the farm animals from a flood and the owls. The fox is even still in this, but he's a manager or producer type dude who doesn't want to lose the money Chanticleer makes him. (Brought to you by someone who grew up on Don Bluth's films nearly as much as Disney.)

That is definitely one of Don Bluth's underrated animated flicks. While the marketing on Rock-A-Doodle was not very good as it was with his past hits like An American Tail or Land Before Time, it proved to be just as good in his animation library. Bluth wasn't trying to one-up Disney, he wanted to reach as high as him.

Yeah, I heard about that recently... I wanted another Tinkerbell film after the Neverbeast back then, it's really too bad that it was cancelled.

i would actually like to see the shadow king and a disney dark animated film OK BRING BACK THE FRAIDY CAT I WOULD LOVE THAT especially if it's 2d hand-drawn animation. also would like enchantaclier i just want any type of disney 2d animated animal movies i would love it all

Had Gigantic moved forward as a movie, then films like Ralph 2 and Frozen II wouldn't even release as they were. While Gigantic would've been interesting to watch of Jack climbing that beanstalk and encountering an 11-year-old giant girl (who treats him like a play toy and keeps him secret from other giants in the clouds), it also would've sounded amazing with the music and lyrics of Oscar-winning songwriter duo Robert Lopez and wife Kristen Anderson. I'm sure the songs would be just as catchy as they did with Frozen.

I've Bambi 2 on dvd and never knew that about the years difference .. I'd love to see Song of the south

funny. i'd like to see it too. many emancipated slaves in the Reconstruction era and beyond wished to return to the way things were before (not all but some) bc they had less money/more debt and the KKK was very violent in that year span. that characters opinion shouldn't offend those born nearly 200 yrs after slavery. it should be a unique opinion studied and pondered upon to see where the root of his views began not just immediately shoved under the rug. yk?

song of the south was "cancelled" long before the disney plus age. it never made it to DVD and was last on TV in the early 70s

I live in Australia, and I distinctly remember song of the South being on TV when I was younger, either mid to late 80s or early 90s. And I was born in the early 80s and would only remember stuff clearly from about maybe 1985 onwards. I guess there were different rules for different countries back in the day.

Don Bluth deeply regrets his involvement with the film as it was the one that broke him after a decade of making masterpieces. He said the biggest problem was after they were nearly ready to finish the film, corporate executives came on and basically gutted the film of integral story arcs because they felt they were too dark, they insisted that the film needed to emulate what was happening at Disney at the time. Despite Bluth’s argument trying to defend his film he ultimately lost the fight and thus the Rock-A-Doodle movie we know was released.😢 They really should have just shut up and let Don do his job, the movie might have been much better than what it was.

Song of the South came on in the late/Early morning a few times on the Disney channel in the 80's that's how I saw it. They used to play all sorts of odd things late at night

Chanticleer is actually the name (and kind of story) of the rooster in rock-a-doodle. He is more like elvis in that movie.

My papa used to sing zip-a-dee-doo-dah from "song of the south" all time when i was little. I never knew where it was from at the time and I almost forgot about the song until you brought it up! Thank You!!!

I think the Don Bluth film “Rock-a-doodle” is based off of Chanticleer, because that’s the name of the rooster in the “Rock-a-doodle” film.

Chanticleer is very similar to the Rockadoodle the main protagonist a rooster is even named chanticleer and it's up to him to make the sun rise with his crowing.

The original plot to Bambi 2 was supposed to be based on the book’s sequel, “Bambi’s Children” in which the titular children after making a very special friend, learn that not all humans are bad.

I love Bambi 2, but I need Bambi's Children as a Disney adaptation/remade rewrite from the story

I feel like the gigantic movie would’ve been a better choice to celebrate their anniversary if it was true they were on a time crunch. Already have a general blueprint, giving a call back to disneys origins and has a really cool concept.

@@ArdenAndLyza-Official I don't understand it either--just as I don't understand why the Matterhorn is still called that, instead of being renamed "North Mountain" from *Frozen* (and featuring, instead of the yeti/Abominable Snowman, Elsa's creation of Marshmallow). I would bet you that 99% of Disneyland's guests have no idea of the origin of the Matterhorn: it came into being in conjunction with a movie released in 1959: *Third Man on the Mountain*, a little gem featuring some of the most breathtaking Alpine scenery in film history, thrilling scenes of climbing, and a charming, lowkey romance between the young hero, Rudi Matt (James MacArthur) and Lizbeth Hempel (Janet Munro). Why this movie is so little-known is beyond me, but because of its obscurity, it should be a no-brainer for the Imagineers to repurpose the Matterhorn as North Mountain.

I've watched song of the south and I love it. Always brings a smile to my face and has some of the best songs.

I’ve also noticed that Balto is not on Disney+. It’s probably due to the fact that it wasn’t factual and they have since released Togo. But they’ve kept other non-factual movies…

Chanticler didn't get made by Disney, but this movie did get made. I've seen it. It's called "Rock-a-Doodle" it was released on April 3, 1992. Great movie, same premise. Take a watch

The video didn't say it doesn't exist, it said the war started so it was canceled and the idea was set aside for like 60 years, and they finally pulled it out of moth balls and made it in 2006.

Still love it as I’ve managed to find it on internet archives. Sad that disneyworld tore down the original ride too. I’m glad they’re bringing it back but they had to movie it because tianas bayou is near completion. Sad

Another Disney movie that got canceled is "A Night on Bald Mountain."

There was a movie about Chantaleer (or however it's spelt?) I watched it all the time when I was a kiddo up at my Granny's house. The rooster would go into a full on slightly rock and roll sort of song 1st thing in the morning, but in the end up he lost his voice and the whole farm yard went into panic because without him doing his morning song the sun didn't come out. I can't remember what it was called?? Rock a rooster or something like that? Then again I don't remember if it was a Disney either?

Toy Story needs to be left alone. The conclusion of the 4th is too perfect to keep going after. It had a very final feeling about it that ended the series well. Why kick up the dirt again??
