10 Crucial Tips for New Preppers!

🔪Prepping Supplies amzn.to/2tFkIxy
Thinking of prepping but don't know where to start? I am here to help with my Top 10 Tips For New Preppers.
1. Start small. There is no need to prepare for the zombie Apocalypse if you don't have enough supplies to last you 3 days without power.
2. Start with Food and Water. To often new preppers want to focus on guns, knives and ammo. It may not be as glamorous but your first preps should be food and water.
3. Develop your skills. Prepping is not just about what you buy but is also about developing your skill set and expanding your knowledge.
4. Build a prepper community. Talk about prepping to your friends, co-workers and family.
5. Tailor your preps to your geographical location. If you live up north you need to focus on keeping warm in the winter, if you live down south you need to focus on staying cool in the summer.
6. Develop a plan B. AKA a Bug Out Bag. Bugging in should always be your plan A. Only Bug Out if you absolutely need to.
7. Practice with your preps. Having preps is not enough, you need to be proficient with them and know how to use them when shit hits the fan.
8. Use List to stay organised. Create prepper supplies list, emergency food list and anything else. This will help you stay organized and buy everything you need.
9. Get into shape. When the shit hits the fan and you are forced to fend for your self you want to be in the best shape possible.
10. Learn First Aid. Skills in first aid will literally save your and your family life.

A lot people are sitting here thinking your nuts, being a prepper is nuts. To those people, having a 72 hour bag is really handy. You get a call at 3am, your mum or dad or sibling had to be rushed to the ER. That is a scenario that happens to 1000s of people every day. It's really convenient to throw some clothes on grab a bag and be out the door in 5 minutes. And you dont have to think about anything, you have it right there ready to go, you thought ahead. A bugout bag is multi-purpose it isnt only for the end of the world scenarios they can be used for perfectly mundane things.

I like these two verses: Proverbs 6:6 - "Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise" (the ant has been famous for centuries for its social habits, foresight, economy and industry. Collecting their food at the proper seasons, they bite off the end of the grain to prevent it from germinating and lay it up in cells till needed). And I believe the Apostle Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 -"For even when we were with you, we were commanding you this, that 'if anyone is not willing to work, neither let him eat.'" Good tips to live by.

I kinda want to add that while it's good to know how to apply a tourniquet but also know how to remove one safely. usually it's a doctor but if you don't have one that you can get to, etc. etc. then you need to know how to take care of the wound and how to remove the tourniquet safely. there are many things that could go wrong, to much sudden blood pressure to the deprived limb, infection many other things. what I'm trying to say mostly is be well rounded about first aid. studying could save yours or someone else's life.

Great video. One thing to consider are non-hybrid seeds for fruits and vegetables for self sustaining disaster preparation. Often times these seeds are pennies on the dollar for what youre getting. Cans run out, but harvesting your own crops that germinate their own reproduction is important. Knowledge of your climate and what grows best in season is highly valuable.

+mary smith You can tell people, but you don't have to tell them everything you have and you can still keep secret and hidden caches These should be hidden from everyone even your own family and close friends. This is always good to have as it gives you the option to go nomadic if possible or your main area gets compromised or destroyed. Multiple hidden caches along a route is best to have as well, as you are moving you can dig up what you have left along the way to a safer area.

Great vid for getting started Malcolm! Thanks for sharing. It's really important to be a good shopper. Expiration dates, use by dates and best by dates are very important. I'm a paraplegic since 1985 and love one-stop-shopping(Walmart) food, OTC first aid, clothing etc. Block out about 3-5 hours one weekend day to do a long slow walk down every isle. Smart shopping is a true art. Being from a family of 9 my Mother knew her s***. Anyone here old enough to remember the old A&P stores that gave out S&H Green Stamps and books to paste them into? That was a chore shared by all of my six brothers and sisters. You can also rack up extra money by following the instructions on your Walmart receipt to open an account. Shop, pay and scan your receipt with your smart phone and watch the $ add up in addition to coupons. They will also price match too. Buy clothing for the winter in the Spring and vise versa. You will find big discounts. I live on a budget and avoid name brand foods bc most can't afford them and by default they go on sale only bc they are close to expiring. Canned chicken breast meat and canned Salmon are already cooked, have a very long shelf life and are high in protein. If you need to cook any food consider buying some cans of Sterno and one or two small two top folding army or Boy scout grills. They're made specifically for sliding the Sterno cans inside the grill. Seeds are so precious. I've done raised bed and container planting for years. Squash, Zucchini are the easiest and fastest growing. You can plant harvest three settings during one summer. Cabbage can be easily grown in containers. Any leftover seeds can be closed and put in the frig. This summer I planted two crops of Squash and Zucchini with seeds that had been stored for 4 years and were just as delicious as if the seeds were brand new. Unfortunately, I won't be bugging out to the woods or mountains in a wheelchair, so I adopted a young female Pit Bull and plan to add to the pack over time. Their sense of smell and acute hearing are priceless. There is so much more I could include but I have a different mindset than the vast majority. My first considerations must begin with being confined to a wheelchair. Things must be as convenient and lightweight as possible. Gees... I need to wrap this up before this post turns into a novel! ;o) Thanks again Malcolm! I hope my post is helpful to you and all of your Subs! Happy Prepping!

You have a pretty good list for the beginner. I agree with the first aid training. On that note; Did you know you can become hypothermic at 10°C (about 50°F)? It would be good to learn about hypothermia signs and symptoms. There are lots of conditions, by themselves, are fairly harmless to an average-sized person in good shape and healthy in the short term like being wet. However, consider being somewhat out of shape or have a medical condition or are small in stature (less body mass to retain heat) and maybe a bit dehydrated; add to this other conditions like being caught in the open and the wind picks up, no dry clothes and an inadequate place to shelter. You now have moved from an inconvenience to a potentially life-threatening situation. There are plenty of indicators of hypothermia like cold hands and feet and/or shivering. Many years ago I was untrained in wilderness camping in the high country. I got cold during the night and tucked my head inside my sleeping bag and went back to sleep. NEVER DO THIS! Moisture from exhaling made me wet and seriously degraded the insulative quality of my sleeping bag. The result? I woke to convulsive shivering, disorientation and severe imparement of coordination and strenght in my hands; hypothermia! Fortunately, I had set kindling and wood ready the night before, but it took 7 matches to get it lit. It turned out okay for me and I caution everyone about this especially those who are just starting out and may have to bug out to the bush. Remember; the more you know, the less you need to carry.

Bugging in and bugging out, 1st aid trained etc.. have plan & look towards it but also be able to think on the go. keep well everyone! All the best.

I always like watching beginner prepper videos because even though there meant for people starting out you could always learn something useful and helpful from them. You have also given me some great ideas and things I missed while prepping so I gotta thank you man and good luck to you when the SHTF.

Kronos Gaming could use just a class plate or another way is using a shot cup and setting the shot cup on a hard surface or a glass plate so it doesn't catch fire. We had a few power outages where I'm at and this is what I did when the candle holders couldn't be found.

I'm watching this during the 2020 covid 19 pandemic. I live in new england where we are guaranteed a few bad storms a year, so I always shop like I'm preparing for a storm, or for when the relatives show up unexpectedly, (that actually happened to me right after new years when they surprised me for my birthday), also make sure that you have batteries for the stuff that needs them like flashlights and portable radio. As for first aid, many communities offer basic first aid and cpr classes.

Excellent advice, especially for EPrep 101. I also suggest being involved in an outdoor enthusiast group or organization. For me, though our sons are grown, I have stayed involved in our Boy Scout troop; going on a campout every month, year after year, keeps me prepared (both in gear and knowledge), plus I learn much from others.

Runs off a relatively small rechargeable battery, which can be charged by an included AC adapter, AA flashlight batteries, a built in solar cell and finally a built in hand crank. Voyager is the brand I have. There are probably others.

No candle holders? Easy. Grab a cup, light a candle and let it drip into the cup, then push the candle base into the drips quickly before they set. It won't be rock solid, but it will be enough to keep the candle there.

Great primer for new preppers! The biggest thing was addressed up front: start small, and start with the events that have the highest probability of being encountered. The magic number I set for beginners, is six days. I learned in Hurricane Katrina that this is enough for you to either wait for help to arrive, or to leave the disaster zone - provided that you choose correctly on which to do from the outset, based on the nature and severity of the disaster. Once you have at least six days on-hand, congratulations, you're no longer a newbie.

Survival Know How hey serious question here. do you think maybe being 15lbs over weight could be an advantage for a short period of time when food is low. I say this because you will be burning tons of calories due to the increase in manual labor needed.

  • @richard6133

    @richard6133

    7 жыл бұрын

I would say that it depends on several factors, most important of which are cardiovascular and pulmonary health. If the extra weight is due to sedentary lifestyle, and your heart and lungs are underperforming, the extra weight is going to pose a double hazard. It will be hampering your performance and endurance, which is already likely to be low if your muscles are weak; and putting you at increased risk for a cardiac event. Conversely, let's take someone who is overweight, but they are accustomed to manual labor and/or vigorous exercise. When it comes to the point of rationing food, their current rate of calorie burn if maintained or increased will start melting that fat away within a couple weeks. Under that condition, you are correct, it is a short-term advantage. Another important factor in the situation is what kind of dietary disruption is presented. A sudden starvation event is going to affect a person differently based on what their current metabolic rate is, and how much labor the person is having to do under the newly imposed conditions. A finely tuned professional athlete will have a complete metabolic crash, and could very quickly become too ill to do anything. Whereas, the sedentary person who is constantly taking in more calories than they burn can withstand sudden starvation without too much trouble at first, if their labor rate isn't appreciably increased. However, if they're suddenly having to do hard manual labor on top of starvation, they'll crash from their bodies having insufficient nutrients to recover during rest periods between labor. Given an adjustment period where the person has adequate opportunities to adapt to the new food and labor situation, nearly anyone who was in reasonable health prior to the change can continue functioning for the foreseeable future. Unless of course those new conditions are total starvation or a labor death camp.

Im 60. Ive spent alot of time in the field. One thing ive seen over and over. When it gets dark people panic. They lose control. For $140.00 at harbor freight. They sell a complete 3 panel solar kit. Easy to put together. And it works great. And it comes with the lights. I love it. Guess what? Problem solved. Plus you can add on to it. I like MREs. They taste great. Chef boyardee. 88 cents a can. Its great. Buy 5 cases. Rotate it. The point im trying to make is for almost nothing. You can be very comfortable for a long period of time for very little. Be sure and buy a tent you can set up in your living room. Dirt cheap. A ton of blankets and 1 candle. Trust me. For peanuts you will be warm. Sleep in shifts. Put the candle in a deep pan. It will warm that tent up reel nice. Done it many times. Go to Wal-Mart. Buy the tent. They are cheap. I have over 2 hundred candles i bought over a year at goodwill. Brand new. 10 cents apiece. Go look. MREs buy them. Why not? 1 per week. They taste great. You can live on them for years. WATER? Get 4,50 gal blue barrels. New. Cheap. Set them aside and store things in them. When its time they make great rain barrels. Boil the water and or purify it. Cheap. Problem solved. Lime. Real cheap. Dig a big hole in the back yard. Take a dump. Put some lime down there. Problem solved. Its not that hard folks. And dirt cheap. You can live like a king or starve. Of course you need a gun. Your not stupid. Figure that one out yourself. Thats why they sell them. Watch your neighbors starve and panic in the dark. For peanuts over a year or 2 you dont have to. Have fun. One other thing. Pick up a used free standing wood burning stove. I did. Put it on your open back porch. It can be snowing outside and we sit around are stove and stay real warm. We cook on it to. All outside. Its fun. Wood?? Last i checked there are trees everywhere. Buy a saw and an ax. Your all set. When its time for bed its into the cheap tent in the living room with the candle in a deep pan. Boy. You will be warm. I figure if you spend $8.00 per week. Over a year or 2 you will live like a king. Have fun.

I lived in Egypt for 3 years and the government rotates power outages in Cairo, especially in summer. Easy candleholder… take a plate, a jar lid, something like that, and light your candle. Drop some of the wax onto the plate/jar lid and then stick the bottle of your candle to it quickly. Keep in mind, never leave any candle unattended, but especially if using this method. It is just in case of a bind, shouldn’t replace actually having a candle holder.
