KH1 has so many small little details, but my favorite is definitely the one from neverland. When you arrive you get the cutscene where riku creates a heartless out of your shadow and it gets reflected in game, from that point until you defeat that boss Sora won't have a shadow, even if you go to other worlds

Yep, there was always an air of mystery in KH1 like there was more to discover, something that was unfortunately lost in future games, although I will say that in KH2 a trade-off of combat over platforming and exploration is personally a good one.

I think the reason why details like this and world interaction are not in the later games is because a lot of people didn't seem to care for it or even notice in KH1 and didn't want to explore their surroundings, they wanted to know where to go since in KH1 you didn't have much of a clue on where to go in most worlds. Honestly I loved everything in KH1. Using magic with the environment to progress or receive items like using Ice to freeze the bubbles in Hollow Bastion's basement or casting fire to ignite the fireplace in Cid's shop, using magic to create potions in Deep Jungle. Finding items hidden in the environment like hitting the fan in Huey's, Dewey's and Louie's shop, changing the time on the clock tower in Neverland then interacting with the doors above it. Finding the trinity symbols and Dalmation puppies. Alternate cutscenes. The minigames. The characters. There's so much stuff in KH1 that made it successful and absolutely amazing. I really love this series and enjoy the other games, but KH1 will always be my favorite of all time.

I'm not gonna lie, you're entirely right. For all of KH1's occasional clunkiness and basic content it really, really is probably the best one in the series. KH2 had a lot of good added gameplay elements but KH1 had the most love and care.

Tree climbing in Destiny Islands, swinging with vines in Tarzan's world, etc. I actually played and finished KH2 first, and when I played KH1 I couldn't understand why they streamlined the level design so much and took away these little mechanics. It added to the charm.

I'd like to add that the Soft Version of Halloween Town was likely intentional, rather than scrapped and briefly featured. First visit to Halloween Town has the soft version featured and stays like that indefinitely until Jack gets introduced during the cinematic with him and the mayor. I've always thought the reason for this was to save the original for Jack's appearance, as sort of a special moment since he really is a beloved character among Disney movies and that song fits his character perfectly.

@@dmas7749 The Original "This is Halloween" song begins playing immediately when the second scene in the world begins. The one where the mayor and Jack are introduced. From that point on, the alternate version does not play. This happens long before the heartless get "out of control." Listen to the music after the "non-fighting" scene with the search ghosts and how it breaks to the beginning of "this is Halloween" right when the second cutscene begins. That's where the soft version cuts off and moves to the original.

I loved this aspect of KH1. There are a ton of secrets in Hollow Bastion (best world), like in your first fight with Riku the door upstairs is locked behind bars, and you can freeze the bubbles in the world to get hidden chests. There are a lot of hidden chests there in general. In Wonderland, the chairs that reward you if you sit on them don't have armchairs, those that do punish you. In Olympus you get different rewards whether you put out the torches with blizzarra or blizzagga. There are also a few secrets in neverland, but I can only remember the chests that appear in Big Ben. I wonder if anyone botherd to check Atlantica for secrets besides a few easter eggs in Ariel's treasure room

One detail I find interesting, is that in Halloweentown, the Heartless are redesigned a bit. They're given this gritty texture that makes them seem more like the puppets from the movie. It's enough that you can easily imagine them in stop-motion.

in all my years and playthroughs. i've always completed worlds. i've been aware that you can skip some in theory. didn't know it would change something at the end of the world. really cool video and enjoying these on your channel. On a side note: (kinda creepy/unsettling thing i find in KH1) at the end of the world. the sound effect for when sora walks is the squelchy sound effect. even when you go to world terminus or destiny islands. you're not hearing soras shoes on hardwood, grass, or sand. Instead its that unsettling semi organic squelch. i've always found seeing one thing and hearing something else an unsettling.

Kingdom Hearts 2 was an amazing game. I think there might be something to the butterflies. They're linked to the concept of Butterfly's Dreams. And then we see TT as a sleeping world on a game about dreams. And the Verum Rexstuff seems to be very dream like and billboards in Verum rex mention virtual reality technology called cocoons. Butterflies come from cocoons. DDD has a keyblade with a butterfly and a gazing eye as its keychain too.

Yes, I was thinking of that just now, there is also the way the screen fades after boss battles and how the opening of the first has Sora questions if "any of this real or not?", I think the first game was supposed to have a dream theme that was either dropped or so below the surface that most people would not notice.

The clock tower doors can be opened for 12 items, one per real time hour passed. The white mushroom sidequest to use all the different spells depending on their gesture to then get goofy's shield from Merlin is cool too. Using gravity to instantly drop Maleficent's platform or chests that are floating on platforms. Using ice to freeze the water bubbles in Hollow Bastion and then jump on them to reach a chest. There's a clock secret in a hotel room in Traverse Town where paintings on the wall give you clues to hit the clock over and over until a chest appears. I know these are more gameplay related details but i always appreciated them.

KH1 definitely has this different vibe that can feel a bit weird and strange at times. For KH2, there's The World That Never Was. I wouldn't describe that world as creepy, but it's very eerie at times, in a very alluring way. It's these ethereal and eerie aspects of KH I really love, once you dig deeper than the basic surface level of this series.

I don't really like KH1 Gameplay, but the worlds in KH1 are soooooooooo good. I love all the Wonderland interactions and secrets, and the Hollow Bastion ones. Most of the worlds in KH1 have this little secrets, little interactions that miss so much in the franchise. I don't know why they kind of abandoned this in the latter games. Haven't really played a lot from KH3 to say they have truly brought back this feeling, but I sense that they at least tried.

@@supertony1239 you can, when you get in monstro you can leave with a save point and do the other worlds, you only need to do 2 out of the 3 worlds (those 3 being Atlantica, Halloween Town, and monstro) to unlock Neverland, so if you keep leaving monstro and save it until after hallow bastion then the cutscenes in monstro change, they were that thorough with the details in the first game

I knew about all of this except the scale one. I remember as a kid playing the base game of Kingdom Hearts and being so excited when I randomly spoke to Aerith and got the cure upgrade by accident. It's details like that in the 1st game I kind of wish later game added more of. KH2 is my favorite of the series, but admittingly doesn't have that level of detail with many of its levels.

Idk if anyone else has told you this but the two different versions of the Halloween town theme are actually just the same theme except the “soft” version has the melody line taken out. Anyone who knows a bit about music can probably attest to that. The core song / bass line is still the same but the main theme that you’re used to hearing is removed, making it sound similar but also different.

Donald teaches Sora fire, a Phil teaches Sora thunder, Bambi, a woodland creature, is received as a prize in the 100 acre wood, most of the things in the bizarre room can be popped up. Mushu became available, after slaying a dragon, Squall leonheart/Leon gave you a lion, The tea party room actually has you change seats like in the movie, to see all the reward possibilities, Ms pots. Chip and the like are seen in deep jungle, just like they cameos in Tarzan. But aside from that, I’m fascinated with the world building. In spite of how the story is, every single thing that there could be to talk about, stemmed from this game.
