Something I love that I feel you really overlooked here: Zack. He got so much love and care put into him for his cameo in this game. Despite being a cameo at best relegated to Olympus, he's not just lifted from the FF game, he's actually ADAPTED to fit the world, unlike every other FF character. His design's changed to fit the world's aesthetic instead of just given different clothes, his dream to be a hero fits perfectly with the film's themes, especially with the early part of the timeline of Herc in training, and he even gets a remix of his game's theme for him that plays even outside of bosses, the only other prior one being Sephiroth. Unlike other previous FF cameos, which were "oh it's that character with half of their personality from their actual game," Zack is one that feels like he was actually properly made to compliment with the level as opposed to fill the FF quota. And I hope that in later games they do follow up on that standard he set, because even if I loved TWEWY and people were happy to have the Radiant Garden crew back, they just don't compare to the sheer memorability and care Zack has in my opinion.

I noticed that too! Not only is Zack a part of KH, but they made it so he fits perfectly into the Disney world. Like it isn’t copy pasted Cloud from Advent Children, this is an entirely new Zack Fair from Disney. Though it could explain why we never see him again, it’s really heartwarming for Square going the extra mile to include him in that way.

I liked clouds remake in kh1 but zack got such a fitting look for that world, it fit much better than clouds appearance, but I dont think cloud could have pulled it off as well

@@LuckiSir I think part of the reason it works so well is that Zack has big Disney hero energy in Crisis Core. How cheerful and outgoing he is, he's a giant dork and his love interest is the FF equivalent of the most special Disney princesses. He fits right in with Aladdin and Herc for that 90s Disney vibe as a character. Zack is such a pure hearted good boy that he feels more at home in a Disney setting than the world of 7's compilation entries with all their anime drama.

@@dragonzpvp3729 Not Really, Aang was in the same timeline for 100 years, Ventus meanwhile time traveled, so technically he still 16 in bbs. the only time Ven has situation like Aang is his 10 years sleep that he had by the end of bbs. Actually in general all the Wayfinder trio Ventus Terra and Aqua all have had the same situation as Aang since they didn’t age for 10 years.

A little point in regards to the mention of 0.2: “Zero point” is the name of the secret episode in BBS which covers Aqua’s journey from her first steps in the realm of darkness up to her approaching the castle of dreams. 0.2 starts in front of the castle of dreams. So not only is 0.2 a numeric indicator of its place in the series, it’s also a clever way of writing “zero point, chapter 2”

I like how Huey, Luey, and Duey are somehow still alive after eating all that ice cream.

When talking about the Snow White D-link, I think Mini was the chosen attack for Dopey to reference his small brain. 😂

Victory pose gives an exp bonus after a kill, vanish makes most enemies ignore you, break time can refill focus and health, it’s like an open unlimited tent. D links can be used in some battles, especially vanitas’s final battle. The sentiment secret boss could easily be defeated in the psp version of the game by striking him once, rolling to a rock, and spamming strike raid, after maxing the commands and certain skills out, ofc. If KZread didn’t claim if, you could probably see for yourself. I think the vid is called “Vanitas has terrible AI”

At the start of Terra’s Castle of Dreams storyline the sad music that plays under his first encounter with Cinderella into the story continues as the background music for the scripted Unversed battle rather than the standard CoD battle theme. Sora’s father is mentioned for the first and only time in the series, taking Sora and Riku to the smaller island by boat. In the original version there’s a Radiant Garden cutscene with Aqua and Kairi where the model for Kairi also appears in the background, fixed for the Final Mix version. The battle music for Vanitas fights evolves reflecting the growing strength of Ventus

The intro to the Armor of Eraqus battle theme closely resembles the intro to the Land of Departure battle theme. Not only do both battles take place in the Land of Departure, but I think it perfectly symbolizes Eraqus' power and experience compared to the keyblade-wielders-in-training.

An interesting detail from Dwarf Woodlands is that the cutscene where the evil queen throws a potion on the Magic Mirror is different on the original JP version of the game. In that version, the queen doesn't throw a potion, she instead glows with a weird aura, i think they were trying to represent that the magic mirror gets corrupted by the envy that the evil queen feels from Snow White. Check it out, it's kinda cool.

Altho it’s not necessarily planned but here are cool Hints and details in BBS about Ventus actually being from Union X, there are 5 hints soo far 1. Xehanort in one of his reports said that it’s destiny is what allowed him and Ventus to meet 2. We never knew anything about Ventus’s past or where Master Xehanort found him 3. Ventus station of awakening has not faces like Sora or roxas (or other characters), but instead only the picture of Keyblade graveyard, the place where the keyblade war happened (also notice the spot where TAV trio were standing you’ll see all the keyblades in the keyblade graveyard make the shape of an X) 4. In the final battle Vanitas Says Our “UNION” Was Not finished, to Ventus 5. Rise of the Union Theme (also key to the Light) is a very important Union X Theme music, notice in birth by sleep it’s used on Ventus the Most

@@GribbleGob Well yea that’s why I said it wasn’t necessarily planned, but what I mean is that there are many hints and details which made it suitable for Ven to be part of Union X, unlike Marluxia or Elrena who came outta nowhere.

Grumpy's command on the Snow white D-link actually fits with the character when you think about it, as it's a renamed version of treasure raid. In the original movie, I believe of all the dwarves, he was the most greedy of them in the mines, putting a greater emphasis on his horde. Obsessing over something like that can often make someone rather "grumpy" wouldn't you say?

During the Birth By Sleep section of the video, I think I realised something, Nomura really does just randomly come up with ideas, but he's so good at putting them together, you can't really see it or complain about it.

Despite my love for BBS, this game really needs a bit of polish. Unlike DDD, this one still feels like a handled game. Menus are not hd, characters have no fingers, subtitles are huge and pixelated. But those details are awesome. Thanks.

Im not sure if I mentioned this or not but the Keyblade armour was reused from a cancelled Square game he was doing designs for according to Nomura. He wasnt allowed to talk about the game though. But he also reused those canceled designs for Batman toys...and there was a canceled Batman square game apparently. Now look at the armour and tell me its not possible for them to be based on Batman lol. They all have bat ears even!

Dopey is Mini because he's the most childish ("smallest") of the dwarfs, and Grumpy is a Raid attack because that's the most "aggressive" attack out of all the Snow White D-Link commands.

How timely with this video coming out, my husband and I are playing Birth by Sleep together because we listened to some music from the game and were like "let's play it again!" Also that Just a Pancake reference tho.

Some of the animations for the unversed you can really only see when you are battling them. The scrapper always looks around and shakes, holding themselves, as if they are afraid

That sounds more paranoid, or deranged. Uncertainty would even fit their movement(being the unversed equivalent of the Soldier, who is gungho about throwing its self in at a whim, they seem unsure if they'll succeed, where as soldiers give 0 fucks.)

people usually hate the command deck because it’s kinda broken, but i love the variety and the different spells and attacks that it offers. I think if bbs were on ps2 or 3 like it was planned, the gameplay would’ve been awesome and fun, and more balanced probably.

Mandricks are probably some form of anxiety or introversion. They attack from afar and stay planted in the ground, but when you get near them they freak out and jump out, and depending on how you read it, either bow in apologies, or are lamenting the fact that they can't get back in the ground.

Another detail is how Braig's personality changes in this game. He has an interesting change in it when you see him with Ventus/Aqua than with Terra

Yeah. There's a very subtle but noticeable increase in sinister-ness and malice in his personality after he gets half-possessed by Xehanort. It's really solid foreshadowing.

The name Birth By Sleep also has a meta meaning to it, as the game itself was a "New Beginning" for the franchise, being a prequel it predates the original game making Birth By Sleep itself a New Beginning to the series as a whole(at the time. Anyway, but now Union X is a thing lol)

Birth by sleep was a Treat to my eyes, I loved how we got three playable protagonists, I hope we get more games like BBS Re:Com and 3D where we basically play with more then one character and explore his/her story.

In the Mirage Arena you can see what Xehanort's and Eraqus' Keyblade armors look like! Xehanort's armor is named No heart which is an anagram of Xehanort without the X. Also it looks like the armor that Xemnas wears in his final battle in KH2! Thought I should add this cause I really liked that 😊

Am I the only one who was disappointed that sora didn't get one of those fancy suits in kh3?

I don't know if this is rumor or fact, but I recall hearing that apparently when it came down to Laguna the choice came down to one or the other of either putting him in Dissidia 012 (which ended up happening) or BBS. It's a shame they couldn't have just put him in both, but I guess someone at Square thought it would've been a bad idea to do so.

I just noticed that the Unversed's eyes are red, and while all the other Heartless's eyes are yellow, Sora's Anti-Form (which is essentially a Heartless) has red eyes. Vanitas's influence, much?

7:28 My headcanon of why FF characters didn't appear in Radiant Garden is because they're actually not real people. They are actually just replicas made by Even from data of FF games that Ienzo likes to play.

Tank Topplers are meant to be bottle rage which needs to be vented. Also, since when does Terra not obtain the rank of Master? Just because he was doing it for manipulative and evil reasons doesn't take away the fact that Xehanort was a recognized Master himself and capable of passing on the title. It counted when he did so in Radiant Garden. (Although he wasn't a master when he fought the two "Master" bosses, so the point still counts. I more get annoyed when people say he wasn't a Master at the point he passed the Keyblade to Riku.)

Xehanort's master made him a Master. Terra's master is Eraqus. No one else can make Terra have the title of master, except his master Eraqus. Terra had the power of a master, hence passing it to Riku, but he does not have the title.

I like to think that the many different magic types in BBS goes to show the player that ATV is way more skilled and professionally trained than SRK. SRK learn their magic and abilities by working it out in the middle of their journeys and often under major time pressure, meanwhile ATV had years to learn the proper and more obtuse applications of their abilities before they even leave Land of Departure. Stuff like Mini and Ignite seem like weird niche spells to use in combat, but I can see them having way more practical applications for life outside of combat, which SRK never would have cared about since they’re constantly in a fight-or-flight situation.

Correction: the PSP could actually handle capes, but not so many at once. The Mirage Arena originally was designed for up to 6 players, as if schools were somehow going to let you bring your PSP so you could play with your friends, and then and only then would problems begin to arise. Legit the only reason why capes were omitted was because of Multi-player in the Mirage Arena. I believe it was because of drastic lag after 4 players were on the same screen. So yes, capes were removed because of multi-player mode, which happens to be a statistical improbability that most people to this day didn't even know existed, let alone could've discovered on accident. It would've taken skill, resources, and/or a bunch of money just to encounter this problem on purpose. Again, I cannot stress enough that I know zero people that were successful at finding one other person with a copy of the game AND a PSP that was within range and was willing to play multi-player in the mirage arena, let alone 5 others. It would've been super cool, but BBS was the least played KH game Pre-2014, and by 2.5, that feature was omitted, disappointing myself and very few others that were hoping co-op on PSN could have been a thing.

BBS was not the least played KH game pre-2014 when it outsold CoM, Days, Coded, and DDD. The best selling KH games were all numbered titles. 1, 2, and BBS (0). On PlayStation.

Well at least ven is not dumb like sora and he was 12 at the beginning of BBS just like me! All though I never really played BBS just 1.5 for the ps3 when I was 10 (and I don't even have to explain why simple answer: kids don't always get what they want) but I still know a lot about the kh games plus I learned to speak Japanese by myself so that counts to plus I also know about removed content, difference's English version and Japanese version, ultimania, and lots and lots of ester eggs! Plus ven is my number 2 in every way but number 1 from male characters ven is my second favorite character and his khux keyblade missing ache is also my second favorite keyblade but if your wondering who number 1 is than its kairi and number 1 keyblade destiny's embrace and plus someone on twitter literally posted a picture of the kh characters with the months of the year under them (and Sarah key and HMK) saying "your birth month is your second character" AND MINE WAS MAY WHICH WAS VEN!!!! And birth month birth by sleep!!! Ven was the one who was literally sleeping and his heart was damaged so his heart was basically reborn and don't forget about roxas he was basically sora reborn as a nobody but he was more ven than he was sora all he had about sora was his name and the kingdom key so ven is basically me(but I'm not male) in kh😀 and plus where I lived my whole life I wanted to live somewhere else and I was happy when we moved but now I miss the country I used to live in by the way its not my home country just where I grew up just like ven!!!

Maybe... if every globe has countries missing, maybe it’s a take on the world in union cross? That world seems infinite, but what if it’s just a version of earth? And the people in the age of fairytales didn’t have the means to properly map it? So in The modern day, the worlds’s maps have different versions of earth, to compensate. But then again, with melody of memory, what If fantasy and reality are two sides of a coin? And fiction and reality are reversed on the opposite side? The worlds ,on Sora’s original side, only have the lands that they need to fulfil their stories, and so the lands that the characters knew little to nothing of, didn’t exist... hence the inaccurate globes. In quadratum, in the kh3 secret movie, the potential Master of Masters used his hands to make hearts shape over the moon... maybe he’s planning for the world’s destruction, so he could make another kingdom hearts and return? I know it doesn’t work that way, but what if it’s the plan? To craft an artificial kingdom hearts using the moon as a base? To make a lesser portal to return? Nah... I just went on a tangent there...
