I've seen people hate on the ending to this movie, but I love it so much. The fact that it's real adds SO MUCH DEPTH to Howard as a character, and the fact that she is able to win and survive because of everything she'd been through, is able to finally run toward the danger instead of away. So good!

I liked the ending, with the exception of the Molotov. If their ship can be taken down by a single Molotov, there's no way the aliens would've caused as much damage as they had. At the very least, Earths military would've had them completely exterminated by the time she left the bunker.

  • @Don-fw3nv

@@donaldseale2700 Yeah I disagree. In the movie, we see that they've taken back some checkpoints from the aliens, but to think the military wouldve been able to completely fend off a surprise attack that, at least according to John Goodman's crazy character, likely targetted hotspots of people, is asinine. I also doubt green flammable gas is their only weapon. Remember that they started off the attack with some sort of massive explosion. One thing to note, is that the alien chasing the girl seems to be somewhat primitive. One can infer that its a type of scout that they set on population centers.

This is what I'd assumed too, and it makes sense. He's an extreme doomsday prepper with a fully kitted out bunker, so of course he would have hazmat suits and gas masks. But he's also a weirdo kidnapper creep, so those would be stashed away somewhere under lock and key to prevent Michelle's escape. But yeah, a short scene showing that would have been a nice little added detail to tie it all together.

Fun Fact: when she goes up to fix the air filtration system, her hand falls onto a letter to howard from "Bold Fortuna", which is a contractor for hire company owned by Tagruato industries. I dunno how much of the cloverfield backstory you know*, but Tagruato (the company the main guy in cloverfield was leaving to work for in the beginning) is the japanese telecommunications company (who puts satellites into orbit) that was responsible for Clovie attacking New York. So if Tagruato in this reality is anything like the one from Cloverfield, chances are everything he said, was likely true. (*short version: they were mining the seafloor for a sweet, addictive organic substance for use in their Slusho soft drinks. they find there is a deposit off the coast of the US, and in order to get permission to mine it, they crash a satellite into the ocean (seen in the coney island footage near the end of the film), call it an accident, ask to retrieve it, the US gov says ok, they do and while down there find the deposit, then say, "look what we found, can we mine it?" and get permission. they start mining, but since those small creatures you see in cloverfield eat the stuff too, they start starving (and probably jonesing since its addictive) and start attacking the nearest food source. which just so happens to be Clovie, a baby, who is hibernating nearby. imagine waking up covered in red ants. so ofcourse it goes nuts. its why you see it scraping itself on buildings early on.) (yes, that is the short version. lol the ARG marketing for the film was quite extensive and detailed)

I just wanted them continue the monster theme from the first one. 😅 This Howard guy worked for the Tagruato Corporation on one of their drilling platforms, which have a connection to the monster in the original movie. The viral marketing they did for the original movie was EPIC, and some of it continued for all the other movies. I think I remember some sort of scavenger hunt that was tied to this movie.

I love the way that all of Michelle’s skills and the tools she uses are explained - you see the doomsday prep book early in the movie, the alcohol in the car is mentioned early on, etc. Nothing comes out of nowhere! It’s also a solid allegory for the cycle of domestic violence and how victims can end up right back into abusive situations if they don’t have access to the help they need. I also really loved that she stopped running at the end. She said that was her biggest regret, and then when the opportunity came along she decided to stop running and actually help. ❤

@@lilscenechick1995 If you want an honest answer, a big part of it was why the CGI was there to begin with. They had practical effects and makeup ready that by all accounts looked great, but the director scrapped those scenes and wanted all of them redone for the worst possible reason: they only looked good from one angle. That's terrible because it's a movie, the audience only sees it from one angle, so it doesn't matter what the back side of any effect looks like. Hence the mediocre CGI that made some scenes gooier than they should have been and a lot of pissed off staff pointing fingers on its release.

one thing i like about this movie is how capable MEW's character is without feeling forced or a Mary Sue.

I always loved the rpg they do before the movie comes out hints at the plot introduced you to Howard and how he saw something at that company he worked at satellite images of the aliens so he's like uh oh better start building the bunker lol Emmet helped so when flashes happened he forced his way in Howard had to let him in while he was bringing her in there

Howard was right, but that didn't make him any less crazy. I think he still kidnapped the other girl and held her captive in his bunker... probably to "recreate" his dead daughter. Then at some point wound up killing her and dissolving her body in acid. So yeah, he deserved what he got.
