10 Cities that Need to Be Bulldozed According to Subscribers.
So, our last video was about cities I thought should be bulldozed and started over. Well as you can imagine this set the comment section ablaze. Not with the normal comments from people defending the cities I mentioned, but, people disagreeing with the cities I picked. People had strong opinions on what cities need a do-over. So today we will look at what cities our subscribers felt should have been on that list.
These aren’t ranked by any one stat, real estate prices, or insurance prices, just by how often people left a comment saying a city should be bulldozed. I also looked at the ones that are hidden because of profanity.
We will do neighborhoods in major cities so leave your comment

True story about Oakland. I was doing Uber in Sacramento and I received a offer for a long drive to take a couple people to their place in Oakland and the fair was over $100 so I was happy to get it. Well her place ended up being south of the Arena in what is known as a really rough neighborhood. The passenger told me she was going to get out and run to Apartment and for me not to stop for anything until I left the area or I could get killed.. I took her advice and left the area what to me seemed like a war zone.

I remember years ago. There was a murder in Stockton. It took Stockton PD a month to track down the murderer. He was from Oakland and went to Stockton to visit a friend. It looked like he wanted to rob someone before he headed back to Oakland. My friend still lives in Stockton, and he noticed that many issues with crime the perps are visiting Stockton. Perps frequently are from Oakland.
Had a friend going to a tech conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. I'd lived in and around San Francisco for a few years, and told him what to expect. I told him it's literally an open-air toilet, not to venture out of his hotel after night since he doesn't know the neighborhood, areas to avoid in the daytime, etc. He clearly thought I was exaggerating. He left after one day. He was astonished that it was exactly as I'd described it.
I worked in Flint for 2 months last year. Stayed in town for four days then switched my hotel to saginaw and just drove an hour each day. I'm not too intimidated by rough areas but there were people pumping gas with bulletproof vests on. It was wild

“Being offended is not a skill.” Love it!
Gary's already lost a huge percentage of its glory days population. Both of my parents were born in Gary and the last time their childhood homes were sold, the combined proceeds weren't enough to buy a decent used car.
Baltimore Maryland, when I was stationed outside of it, literally reminded me of Florida during hurricane season. Except for it was year round. I never seen so many houses boarded up. Fun fact, brand new car got stolen and used in a murder. Then crashed into a tree. And it wasn't like it was a great car. It was a Nissan Note. Literally the most economical car I could afford at the time.
So sad to see so many people living without hope in so many US cities. Really there seems no alternative but to abandon these cities as it cost more to reconstruct them than to build new somewhere else. Hopefully education and employment will follow.

Recently I became an Illinois tax refugee and moved out of the state to Indiana. I am in short commuting distance to Gary. After being here for a bit, I decided to investigate why Gary sucks so badly. It is a long colorful story that deserves telling. What is perhaps what is most remarkable is its dramatic population decline. Gary’s population peaked in 1960 at 178,320 people. By 2020 it was down to 69 thousand. At one time it had eight public high schools. Now it has one. The median income for a household in the city is $27,195, and the median income for a family is $32,205. The per capita income for the city is $14,383. About 22.2% of families and 25.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 37.9% of those under age 18. The violent crime rate has remarkably gone down in Gary. I attribute that to the aging population. Everyone young enough to have the spunk for a violent crime have left the city.
I went to a Orioles game in Baltimore years ago. I parked in parking garage near the Inner Harbor and walked to the stadium. It seemed really easy getting there so I figured it would be just as easy going home. I took a wrong turn somewhere and it turned into a third world country. I had drug dealers come right up to me with no concern about the police. I just kept driving trying to get out of that hellhole and finally I saw a sign for 695 ( Baltimore Beltway) . I was on it very quickly after a harrowing experience like that. When I go to Orioles or Ravens games now, I take the Light Rail to the game. I learned my lesson and will never drive in downtown Baltimore ever again.

I had always thought that Gary was the true part of south Chicago. I find this video mostly a sad statement on US.
The reason the stats look as if Camden NJ is getting better is because years back, mostly all of the cities in NJ lowered the classifications of crimes! Basically, if a death did not occur during a violent crime, it is classified as a misdemeanor. Also, a lot of misdemeanors were reclassified to infractions. It’s a little more complicated than that, but that was the simplest way I could explain the (nicer) stats about crime in NJ cities! BTW... Love your videos!

Rochester NY needs to be on the list it would be its only accomplishment in 40 years .Every day the news has a list of who was murdered and great stats like less than half of the kids are going to school and the kids who are only 40% can read
Born and raised in Chicago. Northwest side. Youre right, south side is bad and has been for a long, long time. Ive spent some time in Gary also and it already is like half vacant. It would be nothing to level that town and reset. It honestly could be a fantastic place being right on the south end of Lake Michigan and near the Indiana Dunes. The history of Gary is actually pretty fascinating. Its just sad how far its fallen.

Hyde park is fine. South shore is fine. Bronzville is fine, Kenwood is fine. I would even go to say Englewood is somewhat doing decent. But the entire south side is not horrible at all. Its overall just okay. Gary is not part of Chicago. It's part of Chicagoland

Big problem Gary had was when trucking started booming in the 50s and 60s Railroads fell off, much of their business came from the railroads
@muffs55mercury61

Good observation. Yes the roads were becoming better and more companies were buying high speed tractor-trailers so over the road trucking moved freight faster that the rail could. By the late 1960s much of the interstate system was completed which made truck shipments much quicker.
It's sad to see so many cities on this list near the top that are around the great lakes, I get it but living in Wisconsin or the Midwest for that matter is and should be the best area in the country.
I just moved from Baltimore to south Carolina. It's a culture shock but it's been okay so far.

I took this with a grain of salt cuz, yanno, people who hate where they live or have lived tend to have tangible reasons even if its just perception. I especially enjoyed the seemingly longer electric static noise between cities. It seemed intentional🤣
Greetings from the pprc great video thanks for sharing it with us.🍿🇺🇸
I used to live in Baltimore for 15 years, never experienced any crimes first hand, though I did hear them on the news. But it seems some places got worse after I left especially downtown even some places I used to go to like Barnes and Noble at the Inner Harbor, the Gallery shut down. I also hear the Light Street Pavilion at the harbor isn't doing too well. In Chicago I hear the Bears are planning on leaving the city, thought they are going out into the suburbs of Arlington Heights. Chicago does need a new mayor and city council. (Along with other cities on this list). Just change whoever is in charge of these cities as well.

I was with my friend, an Anglican priest, and we were visiting Baltimore to look for Poe's grave site... The idiot drove us straight into West Baltimore south of the big gap and we were surrounded by boarded up brownstone-like homes and shuttered businesses. The level of hurt I felt just radiating off those buildings made me cry. I'd never seen the like... I'm never going back. Oh and we never found Edgar Allen Poe's grave, we just said "screw it, let's GTFO!"

If you bulldoze certain areas of those cities, then the drags of society begin to scatter like cockroaches. I mean, remember what happened in Hurricane katrina? What it did to the 9th ward of new orleans? The problems that occurred there scattered to other parts of the nation because they had nowhere else to go. So if you think about it, all the bad areas in the cities you mentioned in previous videos including this one are like containment zones.

...true. When most of the inner neighborhoods in Portland (particularly those that had serious crime and gang issues) were gentrified in the late 90s and early 2000s, the street gangs all scattered to the outer burbs like cockroaches when you turn on the kitchen light as housing prices became obscene. areas like Aloha, Gresham, Hazelwood, Beaverton, Elmomica, Hillsboro, and Cornelius. Sadly along with them went a lot of Mom & Pop stores, particularly Asian groceries (a big loss as I do a lot of Asian cooking) which all moved outwards to 82nd Ave (which yes, I mentioned should be one of the areas bulldozed) or Beaverton due rents being too high for them as well.

What’s funny about Flint (and a lot of people don’t know this) is that there’s actually two Flints. The city of Flint is what you all know and have heard all the terrible things about but there’s also a separate place called Flint Township right next to it. Remove the whole water thing and Flint Township is actually kind of nice. I’ve driven through there plenty of times for work and there’s a lot of great places to eat and shop and some of the housing is actually quite nice

STRATEGIC
Bulldozing vacant property is a great success in many cities. But I think pulling in city limits would help too.
Shreveport, Louisiana is awful. I live 130 miles north of there, but my "local" news comes from that city. They have so much crime the mayor tried to get the news stations to quit reporting all of it. Every morning and evening when I turn the news on, someone has been shot. Like some of the places you have listed in previous stories, people don't report or testify against criminals for fear of being the next victim. The police and city officials are always getting in trouble for illegal stuff as well. Just a horrible place to live or visit.
Love your Vids! Just my humble request but please do an updated "top 10 places young people are moving to". Or if you wanted to do something different maybe do "top 10 places to move after college". Also I do not see you talk about St. Louis a lot so I would love to know your opinion on the place!

I remember back in the early mid 70's having to stay overnight in downtown Detroit, thinking it was a Hilton or a Sheridan that was under construction, but they let us check in, told us if someone knocks on the door don't answer it, well someone did come knocking and we wouldn't answer it,lol, bad memory. On that same trip had to drive through Gary Indiana, and what an extremely polluted atmosphere, and I literally mean this, it also has so many Industrial plants blowing all kinds of smoke and fire it was more like a nightmare than a town. Sorry about what happened to your friend, but somehow it doesn't surprise me. Well that's my two cents, thanks for sharing yours.
Good morning Briggs!!! Have a nice day!!! 🇺🇸🪖👮♂️
To be fair, most of the neighborhoods in Detroit have been bulldozed already lol. Lots of urban prairies and open fields.
That was a good one, now let's check this out.
Definitely the old East Side of Pueblo, CO. There is new construction further out but that city is on the glorious Front Range. Could be fabulous - a lot of room to expand, Xfinity & transportation.
We used to live in Oshkosh, WI, and a ballet company came up from Rockford Illinois to put on the Nutcracker Ballet in Oshkosh. They recruited children from the dance school in Oshkosh to play mice. They had to be able to do cartwheels with the mice costume. . My daughter was recruited to play a toysoldier because she was an very obviously talented dancer. We have a picture of in her toysoldier costume from the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern. But the toy soldiers from Oshkosh had to go to Rockford on Saturdays for rehersals. But Rockford seemed like a very beautiful city. Of course that was in the seventies.
My last forays to Portland were only to the Lloyd district for auditions. I don't want to judge the whole city by just the one locale. In 1970 one of my coworkers in Colorado Springs was from Gary, Indiana. She carried a switchblade for protection. Back then Colo. Spgs. had about one murder per year.
It seems every time I've been to Camden over the years (which certainly is not often), there seems to be fewer and fewer buildings that remain standing. So, maybe Camden is bulldozing itself.
Great Concept, Briggs!

It isn't unheard of for cities to start shrinking and becoming a terrible place to live. It has always been happening around the world. One difference for the US is that the US is a relatively younger country. Can you imagine if guns had existed back during the Crusades. Europe was a violent place and if they had an easier way of killing people it would have been far worst.
Thank you for a spot on list today, Briggs. For those who violently disagree (pun intended). the facts don't lie. A lot could be done to improve these cities, but it just isn't happening. Can't wait to see which cities make the list in 10 years. Great job Briggs. I always enjoy your posts!

I grew up a town away from Camden. I worked there twice. It is so sad to see a once beaurtiful city turned into a war zone of debris.
Hey Briggs, my local radio station does online articles and mentioned this video and how Rockford keeps getting negative attention as usual. They cited the quality of living score and crime rates and seemed clueless Rockford ranked so poorly. What they need to know more than negative publicity is to fix this city or watch it become the next Flint.
Being a Life long Midwesterner I'd say bulldoze all cities at least 50% in teh Rust Belt, this region has tanked and needs a reboot
Trained in Rockford. Used to have a higher rate of cocaine use than Chicago. It really depends on which side of the river you're on. The schools of always sucked and its chief employer was Sundstran , that made doors for space shuttles, so you can imagine how busy they are..
Washington D.C. needs to be bulldozed other than National Mall. They have a serious homeless problem, lots of crime, etc.
I wish i wouldve commented on that video to put E Cleveland on this list. You woulda had a field day on that one!
Since i live in Michigan. Every time i watch these im expecting to see one of the 3 on the list. Flint & Detroit are the obvious choices. But Inkster tends to fly under the radar since its basicly a mini Detroit thats much more residential compared to Flint or Detroit.
