I am so glad to hear you have never made it through the Confessions! I have been feeling guilty because I haven't either. I have tried many times, but I haven't made it more half way.

Lol, Margaret... we were just thinking about this the other day. Maybe we should try again starting in the middle of the book? Or... read just one page a day. It would take awhile, but one page a day seems sort of doable... or maybe we should start a support group for St. Augustine slackers....

I'm the same with the Confessions of St. Augustine. My daughters and I veil. We LOVE it. It helps me focus. Scapulars are off and on here. Allergy/eczema family here too! We live near the National Shrine of the Miraculous Medal. We have St. Benedict medals in our home. I've seen JPII during his visit to America in 1999. Received Holy Communion during Mass. It was lovely. Our oldest 2 kiddos were servers. Our 2 youngest boys recently started serving. No silent retreat here. I've seen JPII but I believe we meet future saints every day. I've never been to March for Life. Praying Roe v Wade is overturned. Maybe we can do celebration marches on the anniversary of overturning. We have a Mary garden. We inherited our Mary statue from my MIL. She passed in 2019. We have St. Francis near our bird feeders. We've done the St. Joseph burial. We found one buried in the yard of the house we bought. Now, I wouldn't do it. I feel it isn't proper to do. I've typed my list as I watched. Haha. Loved this video. The opening was hilarious. No hair shirt here. Speaking of hair, Kate, your hair is beautiful. God bless you both!

It's so fun to read about what everyone's done and not done. You got to see JPII! Wow- that is awesome. Although, as you rightfully pointed out, we meet future saints every day. Tell your boys thank you for serving- it is not easy to be on the altar and have everyone watching you all the time. God bless them! And Kate says thank you for your comment on her hair :)

@@catholicmomanddaughter JPII came to St. Louis. We live about an hour south of there. All the churches had tickets to give out. We were shuttled to the stadium very early in the morning. We attended Mass with JPII. It was truly special. His health had deteriorated so much but he kept going. He is such an inspiration for me as I go through health issues that often keep me in bed.

This is so fun & interesting. I agree about the veil. I have never but I think they're beautiful and wouldn't think twice if I saw someone wearing one. The cloth scapular I've seen being worn quite a bit, but I don't. I love the Miraculous Medal & the Divine Mercy pendant. I only ever wear one necklace because like you... super sensitive skin! I didn't know they had scapulars that were not cloth, I'll have to look for those... I know my oldest son would wear it. St. Augustine of Hippo....you got through more of it than me!!! It's one of those books we own but....I don't think any of us have actually picked it up to read it.... Also, love your scenery! Such a beautiful spot.

Thank you, A V! So glad to know we are not the only ones who have had trouble getting through the Confessions. We are also huge Miraculous Medal fans here... just love the whole story behind it and all the help and graces the Blessed Mother promises to those who wear it. We enjoyed being outside for the video- it was just funny that we kept having to wait for the A/C to turn off or a truck to go by so the noise wouldn't drown us out!

Have you ever been to a Latin Mass? If you want to try veiling at church, a Latin Mass is where you will see 90-95% of women veiled. I started veiling years ago because I wanted to be closer to our Blessed Mother and she is almost always shown wearing a veil. My devotion to Mary has grown significantly over the years and I think it's in part due to wearing a veil at Mass. I think if you feel pulled to try it then go for it! You will only grow closer to our Blessed Mother and Jesus. Thank you for sharing your list!

We are so glad you enjoyed the video, Christina. Veiling is such a beautiful tradition! There are many ladies at our novus ordo mass that veil; it really seems to be growing in popularity. Our church does not have the Latin mass, but we have attended in the past :)

The Confessions - I've never read it. Now I'm curious. I've worn a veil a few times - felt called to it. I find veils are hard to wear though and prefer a hat or scarf. I do wear all 3 all the time (mostly for 11 years now) - Scapular, Benedict and Miraculous Medal. I feel strange without them. The medals I have attached to a crocheted thread so a chain doesn't bother me and my scapular is a tiny one. I think it's possible to have met someone who will be a saint, won't know until the future, never have met anyone well known yet. :)

Question for you, Rachel: how do you keep the veil from slipping off your head? We know from being extras on The Chosen that a veil is not always cooperative, lol, so we always wonder what lies who veil do at mass. We will have to look for a tiny scapular- that is a great idea!

@@catholicmomanddaughter I've had some trouble figuring that out too - I've seen those who sell veils online give the option of a sewn in clip or comb, that probably helps a lot! The one I've worn before was actually a crocheted veil, and it stayed on because of the weight of it. I found your channel because of the chosen! It's so nice to see other Catholics interested in the show, and great you had the opportunity as extras! The brown scapular I use is called the "itty bitty brown scapular". :)

I love the background in today's video. It felt like I was with you outside. A hairshirt? Really? Do you really want to wear one? I totally have no interest. But if you make and wear it, we must see proof. I actually was at a Mass in New Orleans when JP2 visited the states. I was there for a conference and was lucky enough to attend Mass. Funny story that we got there hours before it started. It was outside and we had (for lack of a better term) corrals where we were assigned to sit. It was extremely hot that day, 90's or such. My companion and I got an ice cream sandwich while we waited because it was so hot. Yes, they hawked all kinds of things prior to Mass. A storm came through and the temperature dropped 25 degrees and people were getting hypothermia and had to be taken out by ambulance. In 2016, I attended a silent retreat with my sister. We shared a room and did not talk to each other. It was strange, but not as hard as you might think it is. There is time to talk because of prayers, Mass and Confession. So I guess I have done three things, saw the pope and was in the presence of a future saint and silent retreat.

Lol, Ann- if we ever find and wear hair shirts here, we will let you know first. It is always interesting to read about the saints who wore them, though. How wonderful that you were able to see JPII! That is crazy about the weather dropping 25 degrees- yikes. Good to know about the silent retreat- sounds doable! LOL- being outside for this video we kept having to wait for the air conditioner to turn off so it didn't drown us out.

Love this. There are books that everyone is always quoting and I have thought: “wow, that writer is deep,” or “that writer KNOWS God.” But then once actually try to read the book, I can’t get through it because it’s so heavy/clunky/pontifical. 🫠 😂 But Confessions is on my “To Read” list. We’ll see how I do. 🤗

We are the same, Christie! Sometimes a book looks so good, and then we start to read it... it quietly migrates to the "did not finish pile"", lol. Maybe someday we'll all get through The Confessions!
