    Only about half was correct. I am German, born and raised there with family in Hessen , Bayern and Baden Württemberg. Waffeln and pancakes are more lunch or afternoon snack, Weißwurst mit Brezeln is more dinner or lunch. Big part are boiled eggs soft in middle served in an eggcup, breads and Brötchen as well as jam , Wurst those are breakfast foods. But waffles and pancakes are not. Sweet rolls , pastries all those can be breakfast food.

    The best part of a German breakfast is the German Roll - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - and the crust has to be able to be cut very cleanly - no tearing - I’m surprised this basic part of a German breakfast was not mentioned.

    In every hotel in Germany breakfast was usually cold cuts, hardboiled eggs and fruit. Sometimes they had waffles or pancakes and of course there was that wonderful hearty black or dark brown bread with a choice of butters like the one you described.

    A soft boiled egg (with soft egg yolk) is more common for breakfast in Germany, not hard boiled eggs. But hard boiled eggs are easier to handle for some hotels, that is the only reason to offer them almost hard boiled..

    Do people really eat pancakes and waffles for breakfast? In our family we had pancakes for lunch (filled with sausage, onions, ketchup) or dessert (with cinnamon sugar and applesauce). Waffle baking were something very special, like afternoon cake with extra fun. For breakfast we always had bread, butter and jam (on Sundays also cheese, cold cuts or ham, eggs and grapefruit with sugar)

    Kevin Byrne recipe: www.lecker.de/deftiges-bauernfruehstueck-29471.html Wash potatoes and boil in water for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, rinse and peel. Let the potatoes cool down 2. Peel the onions. Dice 1, cut 1 into rings. Finely dice bacon. In a large pan without fat let it crisply drain. Add diced onions and fry briefly. Remove everything. Fry onion rings in bacon fat until golden brown and take them out 3. Cut the potatoes into slices. Heat clarified butter in bacon fat. Fry the potatoes for about 10 minutes until golden brown. Turn from time to time. Add 2/3 of the onion and bacon cubes to the potatoes, season 4. Whisk eggs and milk, season. Pour over the potatoes and let them falter at low heat. Occasionally push together a little with the spatula 5. Wash the chives and cut into small rolls. Arrange farmer's breakfast. Sprinkle with rest of bacon and onions and chives. 6. Drink: cool beer

    My grandmother was born in Germany in 1899 and emigrated to the States in 1911. Seeing videos like this make me feel closer to her and my culture. I actually visited Germany in 1993 and it was wonderful. I didn’t get to see her hometown since it was a part of Russia by then. I long to go back to Germany and see it proper and just wander around. I would love to try a certain pastry from there. I think it’s called....a “bee sting” cake?

    For the Bauernfrühstück (the potato dish), normally onions, diced/sliced gherkins are added. Maybe tomato and bell pepper as well. Leftover meats can go into it as well. And liquid egg stirred into it. At the end sliced pickled red beets added. The dish you've shown is rather a nornal "Bratkartoffeln" with an egg on top. And waffles & pancakes are more common to be eaten in the afternoon. But maybe it's a regional thing.

    Fond memories of summertime breakfast in Berlin in the Alexanderplatz. We'd go around to the little stores in the area and buy fresh rolls, coffee, etc. And then we'd either bring it all back to our hotel room or just eat outside. Perfect start for the day.

    Ymm....German breakfasts are the BOMB! Friday I clicked on your video and for some unexplained reason, I only got to watch the ads, but when the ads finished, the screen went black and with the little white circle in the middle,....whoo boy....buffering! But lucky me,since I posted on your question what's your fave breakfast, somebody commented after me and here I am, enjoying seeing so many sweet and savory German breakfasts! If the German waffles are as GREAT as the Stroopwafels from the Netherlands I'm in and the savory, the chopped sausage and potatoe heaped onto your breakfast plate with a sunnyside up egg is the BOMB! I'll be trying that here in Mexico and realizing that "Schnitzengruben" that Lilly Von Shtupp(Madeleine Kahn) served the sherrif(Cleavon Little) for breakfast(big, long sausages)is just made up for situation comedy! :D

    These are all great weekend breakfasts. During the week, however, Germans are as busy as Americans, and meals are grabbed on the go. Kids might eat a bowl of cornflakes (generic word for all those boxed breakfast foods) and a cup of yoghurt, Adults grab a cup of coffee and a bit of bread with a slice of cheese and cold cuts on it, perhaps a banana.

    Not all Germans r very busy. Probably the ones far from the cities r not busy. What is German bread like?

  • @robertsparling

    @robertsparling

    @@nancysoboluesky2145 Germans are as busy as Americans. Think of Americans who live away from the cities, and you will find your parallel. While not every village has a bakery, nearly every town does. Many of the local bakeries are family owned, and make bread from scratch. I can go to the market in the village where I live and get breads that are still warm from the bakery. Alternatively, I can go to the next town (4 miles) and get bread from the bakery, where the baker is the family father, and his wife works at the sales counter. Breads come in many varieties. White bread is uncommon except in bread rolls (brötchen). Mostly breads are made with a variety of cereal grains like rye, whole wheat, dinkel, greenkorn, and others. The grains are mostly ground a bit more coarsely and are heavier than the light and fluffy American breads. Here is a pic that is similar to the bakery counter in the town next to me. www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.de%2Fpin%2F631700285203671871%2F&psig=AOvVaw0ebVG1ShBMTK1Iv78BOcU0&ust=1602401179105000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCJCp-9u_qewCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAJ
