Being from New York and seeing a video in an impoverished neighborhood, it is great to hear about the ways of the deli/bodega/corner store--the significance is the ways of New York. People who compare it to gas stations and shit like that, do not get it. It more so is a community thing, considering the bond is within poor neighborhoods, and the aspects of it.
