I can't begin tell you how mind blowing "Alone in the Dark" was the first time I saw it as a kid. I didn't even have the words to describe it to my friends.

Missing the best PC classics of 1992: Wolfenstein 3D, Ultima VII, Dune 2, and of course Star Control II.
Wow! Half the list is comprised of SNES titles: and they are still some of the best games of all time!
So many great games in 92. Super Mario Kart, Contra 3, SOR2, Link to the Past & Sonic 2 are each all time classics in my eyes. Magical Quest was the first game I ever beat (I was around 7 at the time), so it also holds a special place in my heart.

I'm really surprised "Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool" (SNES) didn't make the list. An absolute banger, as they say.
I was only 22 in 1992 great times with Amiga kind off wish it was possible to time travel to back the I feel ancient at 53 now.
Such a great year for gaming. But let's give special attention to Streets Of Rage 2's soundtrack. Which is so good that it even eclipsed the mighty Sonic 2's. The first opening beats just pull me back to that year. Fate of Atlantis also deserved it's accolade fir best point & click that year. I played it on the Amiga and it really pushed my 9 year old brain.

If you haven't played it you should download streets of rage remake. SOR 2 is easily one of the best and most forward thinking soundtracks ever, the first is a great one too, all hail Yuzo Koshiro, gaming legend. I grew up on my mega drive/genesis (I'm from the UK), am 40 years old so was 10 when streets of rage 2 came out, I loved Revenge of Shinobi too, again all hail Yuzo Koshiro for that soundtrack

As groundbreaking Alone In The Dark was in every way: What I loved most about it were the simple sound effects like steps or creaking. They were the topping that made this game perfect.

i still remember the zombie who had that nail-gun accordion and the sound it made. Also loved the simple but eerie music.
1992 really was a cracking year. Zelda and Super Mario Kart. What a time to be alive
As always here are some honorable mentions: Art of Fighting Asterix (Arcade) Bucky O'Hare (Arcade) Fatal Fury 2 Monster in My Pocket Mortal Kombat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return of the Shredder if you want to get Japanese about this) Warriors of Fate Wolfenstein 3D X-Men (Arcade)

Same, it is the only retro game that completely blew me away and that I never stopped playing, have it installed in every PC I own, from a 386SX with 4 Megs of RAM to a Windows 11 PC, and even my Android smartphone. Many people consider Mass Effect 2 as the greatest game of all time, and completely forget SC2 where the devs even admitted to drawing inspiration from...
To me 1992 was all about streets of rage 2 in coop and thunder force 4!!
Soul Blazer is still one of my favorite games of all time. I don’t know why, I just loved it so much.
@hygrave2892

Soul Blazer was similar to Zelda, but with the hitch of town building, as you free people by beating enemies. It had a good soundtrack too. That whole series was good, Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer, and of course Terranigma. Soul Blazer kicked the whole wonderful series off.

That's why it was such an endearing game. The world got bigger as you shaped it. That alone made you want to keep playing until the end. I rented it for a week, and then after I returned it, decided to purchase it before I got home from Electronics Boutique. Quite a shame to this day very few games have ever been quite as good as Soul Blazer. Could you imagine a modern day remastered version of it?

@@hygrave2892 I would love to see that. If they made a version where they randomized the level layouts and drops, I would probably replay it forever
Contra 3,Somic The Hedgehog 2 and Streets Of Rage 2 are one of my favourite 90s video games ever and I still play them whenever I wanted to go back and play some old games.
I was 10 in 1992. I really enjoy these list though.

"A year we can barely even remember". Oh thank God I thought you were going to say you weren't born yet.
Describes NTSC SNES colours in one entry. Calls the Sega 16-bit console by the outside of NTSC name (Mega Drive) in another. Continuity never stood a chance 😆
Soulblazer and everything from Quintet rocks. That said, there are a few PC games released that year (in the US) that deserve mention: Ultima VII: Pretty much perfected the early persistent open-world sandbox RPG Dune II: the first great RTS Star Trek: 25th Anniversary: the only good Star Trek game ever made? Wolfenstein 3D: the first FPS worth a damn
I replay King's Quest 6 at least once a year; it's one of the few games I'd consider doing a Quick Play of. More importantly: Sierra made a host of awesome PC games back in those days. If you like King's Quest then you HAVE to try Quest for Glory; specifically QfG4 - it's narrated by John Rhys-Davies!!

In my year at school, rather than Sega Vs Nintendo, it was LucasArts Vs Sierra 😂 I was a LucasArts guy, I felt the graphics were better defined and Sierra’s random deaths annoyed me, but I still enjoyed completing a few of their games, particularly the copy of Leisuresuit Larry 3 my dad was gifted from a guy at his work, complete with guidebook!

@RealCaptainJaws Absolutely. I loved Sierra games, especially Space quest games.
The memories here are real. This was my hot year as a kid for gaming, having both a SNES and Genesis (Mega Drive). SO many amazing games, especially from a RPG standpoint. I adored Soul Blazer and to this day do NOT forgive them for not releasing Terranigma in the US as well.
Great stuff again guys I do enjoy your vids thank you
My personal top 10 of 1992: Thunder Force IV, Desert Strike, Sonic 2, Road Rash 2, Contra 3, Alien 3 (Mega Drive) Soldier Blade, Gate of Thunder, Streets of Rage 2, Mario Kart. I've never played Alone in the Dark or Link to the Past so I can't comment on those but they are on my future to try list.
Random: The best-selling album relesased in 1992 is THE BODYGUARD (SOUNDTRACK) by WHITNEY HOUSTON which sold 45,000,000 copies.
Great video guys!😊
Streets of rage 2 could have been in this list just for the soundtrack.

A run system, multiple endings/paths/boss variety for each character too
Magical Quest Is a deceptively great game. Especially in a age when Disney games were suitable for 6 yr Olds and younger. (I was 7) It's actually quite replayable to this day
Sonic 2 was my fav- I realized early there was a game under the x-mas tree...well that box shape is undeniably and though I felt guilty, I had to play it so careful unwrapped it played it for hours and rewrapped it. I acted extra surprised at x-mas morning.

Nobody wants to say it but I will. Sonic could kick Mario's a**!
3:40 - Hm... Absolutely no mention how the PAL version had the game completely renamed to Probotector and reskinned every human character into a robot, because the very idea of little digitized sprites of humans using guns that shoot big bright-red dodgeball-sized bullets at each other was too much to bear for children who grew up watching such classics like Watership Down or Farthing Wood? :P
Wait, the evil guy in KQ VI is actually called "Abdul Al Hazred"? Totally missed that as a kid somehow^^
if you guys never played Castle of Illusion for Genesis, give it a play. it's a Mickey Mouse game, but the graphics are so cool, and it's such a creative game. i don't care much for Disney stuff, but that's probably one of the most creatively designed games i've ever seen.

Im bitter about Mario beating Zelda, but happy to see Soul Blazer made the list. Quartet doesnt usually get the credit it deserves, they cranked out some masterpieces.

3 years later, but Lucasarts' Dig was one of my favorite of that era of puzzle games. Full throttle too, "I'm not putting that in my mouth" All those Lucasarts archives packs were awesome!
Shout out to all the 1992 babies!
love your channel, keep up the good work ✨✨
I loved Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis when I was a kid. There was 3 ways to solve every puzzle and 3 endings, depending how you did the final part. It was always punch, talk or sneak your way through a situation. Great game.
The nostalgia is almost too much. The early 90s was the very best decade in gaming, with more all-time classics coming out than in any other. Also, it was a pleasant surprise seeing Soul Blazer just squeak onto this list .

King's Quest...it's been a while since I've played it. And Indy...I wish there'd be another one. Quite unique at that time to choose from "Wits, Fists and Team"-mode within the game from a certain point. Monkey Island did come back...why not Indy. I loved all these classic point'n'click adventures. Also the Space Quest and the Larry series. Or Dig, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Sam'n'Max.
I started my first job which was in a Game Shop in 1992....What a year! 😄😄😄

Ahh 1992 ... such a yippee year ... I was 10 ...
I have such great memories of playing King's Quest VI on my friend's computer :)
Mickey Circus on SEGA was my JAM back in the day
Genuinely surprised Ultima VII did not make the list considering it was basically seen as the greatest game of all time when it came out, but looking now it is hard to even find reviews at all of it so I guess that did not help
I'm surprised World of Illusion and Splatterhouse 2 isn't on the list or TMNT Hyperstone Heist/Turtles In Time
Thank you for the "Spookems"
I was happily playing Amiga games in 1992... old fogey that I am :p
I remember Super Mario Kart fondly...Great Game
Zelda Past would have made a fine honorable mention to have it in the best of 91
12:58 "Zelda - A Link to the Past", as epicly good as it is, is NOT an RPG, but an Action Adventure.
I have very vague memories of 92. No memories of the games though
Fun fact: Billy Ray Cyrus had a Billboard 200 #1 album for several months in 1992.
I really actually have each and every single one of these games to this very day!!
Soul Blazer looks and plays like Ys, I'm going to have to check it out.
Sad no Shin Megami Tensei. It started a massive franchise and even a genre.
Final Fantasy V & Wolfenstein 3D if you ask me the best games from 1992.
Really belabored that kings quest title when 9 times out of 10 we can expect an “egregious pun” just waiting for us at the end of each entry in these countdowns 😔
*haven't seen the video yet* One thing is certain. The 1992 highlight of my Gaming Career was most certainly my birth... (Granted, my favorite childhood game was made in 1991, and I played it years later so that point doesn't mean anything.)
Oh wow I had fate of Atlantis. I was young and could never get far, I didn’t realize how good it was. Wish I still had it
No mention of Wizardry 7.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is number one on my list. 😀👍🎮
Also, A Link to the Past is my all time fave Zelda game.

It is funny how you tried to say that alone in the dark was the game that influence games like Resident Evil, when Capcom has straight-up come out and said that Resident Evil was influenced by their own prior release of the game called sweet home on the famicom. Alone in the dark may have influenced other point-and-click Adventures, but surely not the survival horror genre
Great list, But no Street Fighter 2: World Warrior. Thats a crime for sure.
I really miss Sierra Studios...and their puns.
Sonic 2 by far
Wow Sonic 2 sold less than first one, never knew that. Quite surprised about that.

The Super NES wasn't grey and purple anywhere in the world except for America, so it's interesting you call the Mega Drive by it's correct name for all non-Americans. I think Sonic 2's graphics still hold up today, which is testament to the developers design ethics. It doesn't look dated at all. But then again, I'm an out-of-touch 46 year old, so what do I know?
Flashback is better than almost all of these games.
only the latest Alone In The Dark games weren't good. #1, 2, 3, and 4 my favorite; The New Nightmare.. were all excellent games and #4 really gave me shivers in multiple occasions. You know... before the Horror Survival Games became Action Games.
