I think to take the potential heat off of them they should have gone with "101 Most Critically Acclaimed Games of All Time" or the more simple "101 Best Games of All Time (According to Metacritic)".

I don't believe Diablo was a PC exclusive. I actually fondly remember playing Diablo 1 as a kid for hours at a friends house on his ps1

Thief 2, Diablo 2, Warcraft III, Age of Empires 2, Anno 1404, etc... 😉

It's not exactly earth shattering having OoT as 1 but you really had to be there to experience it. For me personally it's SF2 but OoT, alongside FF7, at the time were absolutely mind blowing. Like you could not fathom this depth of a game at the time, it was fucking amazing. By now I'm sure it's quaint and novel but my God going from 16-bit to that? Good lord.

If Ocrina of Time was made in the current day, those outlets giving it a 9 would be flooded with death threats.

I will say, players were NOT happy at first for Wind Wakers graphics. It was a big deal as before Wind Waker was announced, a graphics demo at E3 showed a much different, super dark and gritty Zelda game was shown. This would go on to be the template for Twilight Princess, but that would be years after Wind Waker. Obviously Waker would be loved still once people got their hands on it, but leading up to release MOST people were hesitent.

Love the long list videos you guys do even if i have no interest in the game(s) its always entertaining

I particularly enjoyed the deception about when the next Metal Gear/Kojima game would appear in the list. Very Metal Gear.

I don't agree with everything Ashton says, but I'll give you props for the Madden NFL 2002 comment of "One critic even said even players who weren't massive American football fans would have a great time.." (with the game) and Ashton basically saying "yeah we're not sure about that.." is absolutely spot on. Over my lengthy video game playing life I have found every single American football game to be 100% unplayable. Without exception.

The only problem with this list i have is the inclusion of visual novels as games, i mean by this definition adobe acrobat reader is a game, or i dont know ms word. Or any browser.

I picked up godfall mostly because at the launch of the PS5 there were not many games to choose from. The game looked great. Combat was fine. But my lord if there was a story i can't remember it lol. If they could have popped spme jrpg elements in that game we could have had it all 😂

Since this list is ranked solely based on average professional review score (and it having at least 7 different reviews), that must mean that FF7 either didn't meet the minimum 94% requirement or didn't have enough professional reviews.

All imma say is as i pause if NFL 2K5 isnt on here its wrong.

It's funny that even a list that's stated at the start to be ranked solely based on average review score still has people arguing in the comments about the rankings being 'wrong'. Like yeah, opinions of a game are subjective, but in the context of this list the metric being used is irrefutable since it's being sorted by numbers.

Well, it's just two websites that collect some reviews. It's definitely not all reviews that were made in the world. You also have to acknowedge that a lot of games from the 80s and 90s are not as much represented on metacritic. Back then videogamecritis mostly started just from scratch and were quite unprofessional as well. And then you also have the situations were gamescame out broke, got patched and people loved them. But they had bad reviews because of early reviews. So in my opinion it's not just numbers. ;-)

No different from if they'd sorted the games alphabetically instead. Would that still get people arguing about the list being 'wrong'?

​​@@deadpool3982The first 4 Tony Hawk games all scored above a 90 I believe, and set the world on fire around the turn of the century. It may not be as widely talked about now, but yeah man it was huge back then. I was only 6 or 7 and THPS, along with Final Fantasy 7, were the games people in school were mainly talking about. Edit: I can't say the same for Soul Calibur though. I was aware of it, but most people I hung out with were more into Tekken.

yeah thinking the same but these at least some games are ancient and it was back then considered nearly perfect and i dont think its that great (yes i played it) but dont forget critics loved it i honestly really dont care what critics likes or not. I decide for myself how i feel about a game. For example i play Dysmantle now (OpenCritic says 77%) so its a overall good game. But i love it, for me its 90+ game, yes sure its not like perfect im not blind to its faults, still i love it. Exploring, destroying things, upgrading stuff, building stuff, i dont know it has a charm. So what im trying to tell here is that critics says its 77% i say its close to like 92%. Critics are just people, even if they try their best, cant be objective 100%. So there u have it why that game is 99%. Hype and i think lack of larger quality title then that made it so desireble that it just was perfect for those critics. Same shit with Legend of Zelda. Dont get me wrong i think its a quality title, but SO empty. Borderline boring after playing 20+hrs. I know that the game is far longer, but still if a game cant hook me in after 20hrs something is not right. And i dont care if it has what 97+%, dont care a bit. But this list is made by taking critics scores etc. so i dont blame ppl behind making the video, its still the critics fault :). Sorry if its longer then it should have been. They actually do have a couple lists like that already. Can't do links here, but the names are something like "101 Games That Everyone Should Play" and "101 Most Important Games of This Century". Both of those aren't ranked lists, rather they're just a collection of games they think are "the best" essentially.

I’m sure it’s an above average game but Jack Jeanne’s inclusion shows the methodology here was flawed. I follow Switch releases religiously and I had never heard of it. It doesn’t even have any user reviews on Nintendolife for goodness sakes! There is a major sample size issue here. You can’t include older games without a forgiving number of minimum reviews (e.g. 7), but for modern era games this is way too small of a threshold and will lead to obscure entries.

"Highest Rated" doesn't necessarily mean BEST and so-called "professional" ratings aren't any more valid than those of fans who have played and loved games their entire lives. 🤷

Ideally, critics are trained to be objective, and they've learned to not let their bias be a major factor in their scoring. I expect a professional games journalist to have more nuance in their review than the average Dave down at the local Gamestop.

@@tylarjackson7928 Unfortunately, while your expectations are fair they aren't the reality of many of these "professionals" who are at the mercy of the websites and publication they work for that are pushing agendas for the purposes of money and access. Rotten Tomatoes has the same issues with positively inflated reviews that are pure rubbish.

Terrible video, should have only allowed one game from a franchise yikes so redundant. Sorry not trying to be negative just giving feedback

How can it be the best if everyone complains about the water temple? Those scores make no sense, it has already been demonstrated in several videos that being guided by those things is useless.

These list videos blow anyway, they don't do enough research and they insult all the good games, and they're boring. WGE and Weirdest Games Ever are much better. If I wanted to hear about lists, I'd go grocery shopping. The next video will be 102 best games ever, and the list will be exactly the same, with one more game at the end. The video after that will be 103 best games, etc.... Lists are for babies and accountants. Might as well put up an Excel spreadsheet and jack on it.

The house in fata morgana is one of my favourites of all time (its my damn pfp) but if they are gonna include visual novels then they should at least do some research into them and put some of the others alongside it that are either just as good or revolutionised the genre. Like having fata but not its equal, equivalent and opposite umineko is insane to me.
