10 Best Game of Thrones Fight Scenes (All Seasons)

Фильм және анимация

I know I’m pretty late on uploading a Game of Thrones related video given it’s already November and any hype for the series is more or less dead. But it’s better now than never I guess. So here’s a top 10 list of the best fight scenes from Game of Thrones. Seems like I’m the only one who decided to actually include commentary rather than just putting together a straight compilation…..

Original Script for Special Entries:
Khal Drogo vs. Mago (S1E8)
(choreographed by Paul Jennings & Buster Reeves)
Choreographed by Paul Jennings and Buster Reeves, the fight featuring Khal Drogo and Mago is so one-sided that it’s decidedly more of a public execution than an actual fight. Mago challenges Khal Drogo’s authority after Drogo agrees with Daenerys’ pleas for the Dothraki to cease the rape and murder of the local village they had just conquered. Like a few other aforementioned fight scenes in this video, this one is also exclusive to the show, having been suggested by actor Jason Mamoa himself to demonstrate the mighty Khal’s reputation as an undefeated Dothraki warrior indicated by his unusually long braided hair. Drogo intentionally disarms himself to further humiliate Mago while Mamoa appears to be channeling some of his Samoan haka spirit. Coincidentally, this is the same episode as Syrio Forel’s last stand except unlike the shorter Braavosi, Khal Drogo augments his natural agility with absolute brute strength. Honestly, who doesn’t enjoy seeing Aquaman perform a mortal kombat style fatality? Sadly, Drogo later dies of a deep gash that he dismisses as a minor cut. “Tis but a scratch.” (Monty Python and the Holy Grail clip) Overconfidence takes the life of yet another skilled fighter.
Grey Worm, Unsullied, & Barristan Selmy vs. Sons of the Harpy (S4E5)
(choreographed by Rowley Irlam, Richard Bradshaw, & Paul Shapcott)
You might recall that larger battle sequences don’t count for this list but the massacre in Meereen coordinated by Rowley Irlam, Richard Bradshaw, and Paul Shapcott is half-way between a fight and full-scale battle and so barely missed the final list. Former slave masters who resent Daenerys’ new regime disguise themselves as the Sons of the Harpy and ambush the Unsullied all over Meereen. The fearless Unsullied are regarded as some of the best infantry in the world but their long spears are ineffective in the narrow hallways of the city. Failing to form a defensive shield wall, the Sons of the Harpy break through and slaughter the entire battalion until their Commander Grey Worm stands alone. He courageously fends off the horde of masked men as best he can but as he sustains an increasing number of stabs, we can’t help but to lose hope. Not all the heroes in Game of Thrones are violently killed off however as Ser Barristan Selmy emerges from the end of the hall cutting down the majority of the Sons of the Harpy like carving through cake as we’d expect from a man whose sword mastery, according to some, may be equal to Arthur Dayne’s. Though even for a superb swordsman such as Ser Barristan, we should know by now that a longsword isn’t optimal in close quarter combat. Grey Worm tries to save Barristan, but the elderly knight’s wounds are far too fatal. But if you are a huge Barristan Selmy fan, fear not, because he is actually still alive in the books.

Your commentary provided us an excellent insight of the context and creation of these fights. It also makes us appreciate more the work of the unsung heroes that are the choreographs. I'm glad to see you back in action.

good job like usual, I actually made armor that only covers my back (if they can hit me somewhere else I figure they deserve the kill) for a kids/teen camp that does mass sword battles that I work at, I did this because so many kids would try to stab me in the back the second I start fighting someone else some would actually follow me around the battlefield looking for an opening : ) I also would always dual wield because it's easier to take on multiple opponents at the same time
